2018 Baseball season (2 Viewers)

Well, the Nats blew the last 2 games of the series, 2-1 and 5-0, leaving them at 52-53 on the season. This is a mediocre .500ish team. All bets are off and I really wouldn't be surprised if the decision to be sellers is made. This series is the perfect example of the spectacular inconsistency this team has exhibited all season. They won the first 2 games 10-3 and 9-1 before dropping the last two games 1-2 and 0-5. They are awful. Time to stop pretending that they are contenders and make some moves to improve. -- Al

The juggernauts of the NL East will be playing each other this week {eek3}

What?

With their win today, they are now 74-33, 41 games over .500.

With 162 games in a MLB season, that leaves 55 games left to play.

So, IF they go .500 the rest of the way, IE, 28-27, they'll finish with a record of 102-60.

If they keep playing like this, it won't matter what the gashouse gorillas do.

correctamundo!

I can't see it any other way...

33-33 would be .500...

right?

and they are 41 games over that...

right?

so they are 41 games over .500...

All any team needs to do against the Nats is avoid Scherzer, which the Mets do, and the pitching match ups are in the Mets favor. Nats will be lucky to split, and I do mean lucky. -- Al

Whenever a sports commentator, analyst or broadcaster talks baseball, a team that is 73-33 is referred to as being 40 games over 500.

Whether that's mathematically correct or not is not the issue, it's a common line of thinking.
To my way of thinking, Boston is 40 (now 41) games over .500. They have played and won those games. So they would have to lose 40 games to be .500. To me, that is 40 games above .500. Can't go back and say IF they lost so many games they would be .500. What's the point to that? if they lose all the given games game, then they would be 40 games under. Fact is, they have played and won the games, coulda, woulda, shoulda doesn't count. -- Al

O's have sent Brad Brach to Atlanta for $250K in international signing bonus allocation money. Machado, Britton, and Brach are now gone. Next? -- Al

I noticed the gashouse gorillas have made a few moves the past couple of days to secure international signing bonus allocation money, word is they are hot on the trail of a lights out Cuban pitcher and a positional player, gotta love the gashouse gorillas, always one step ahead of everyone else.

Because, you know, every little boy in Cuba dreams of playing for the gashouse gorillas...……………….:rolleyes2:

Some teams have tried to increase their international money through trades; the moves seem to make a lot of sense.

You seem to delight in calling the Yankees this name or that name but the team atop the standings is your team -- and you never have any nickname for them or their players -- and when it comes to spending money, they are no slouch as their payroll is over $220 million, while the Yankees are somewhere in the $170s. I'm sure you can come up with some cute little monickers for your team.

Looks like the tweet controversy has hit two more players, Trea Turner and Sean Newcomb. Looks like people are combing through players' accounts to see what they could find.

Ah, social media and big mouths, a combination sure to entertain.:rolleyes2: -- Al

According to local news the latest 'tweet' scandel, involving Turner and Newcomb, is a team rivalry thing. Some Nats fan dug out the Newcomb tweets so some Braves fan went and dug out the Turner tweets. The tweets are years old. Nothing is untouchable in today's world of social media. -- Al

Players should be reviewing and scrubbing their accounts. I’m sure we’ve all said things in writing that we later regret.

Yes, I do delight in calling them this name or that name.

And no, why would I have nicknames for my teams players?

That makes zero sense, who would dump on their own team.

Yes, the MFY's are at 170 million; if they don't win the WS this year, we'll see where their payroll is next year.

If you can't beat em, outspend em.

Like after the 2008 season when the failed to make the playoffs, they dropped a cool 250 million (that's a quarter of a BILLION dollars) on horseface, Sherman Klump and Beavis and bought themselves another WS title vs the Phillies in 2009.

And they haven't been back to the WS since.

Gee Brad, sorry if I've said anything to ruffle you feathers; last time I checked, you're a Mets fan, why does what I say about your crosstown rival go up your backside sideways?

And I've said this a billion times; sports are the toybox of life, they are entertainment just live TV shows, movies or music.

Whether your team wins or loses has zero impact on your life; before the Super Bowl last year, the amount of money I had in the bank was the same as it was after the game, so in the end, who cares?

(actually, the amount was more as I sold some stuff on Ebay that day...…………………….)

I don’t mind Yankees fans criticizing Mets and Mets fans because we do it right back but in the end we’re all New Yorkers. Hearing this constant refrain with these silly nicknames gets a little tiring but if that’s you’re little thing, don’t mind me. Later and adios George.

I put very little in writing. It's my mouth that keeps me in hot water.:wink2: -- Al

Yeah, I don't get that either.

If the Braves never left Boston, I'd be a Braves fan too, they'd be my National league team along with the Giants.

I would first and foremost be a Red Sox fan; if they played each other in the WS, I'd be pulling for the Red Sox, if the Braves got to the WS and played a team other than the Red Sox, I'd be pulling for the Braves.

If the Braves got to the WS and lost, I wouldn't be happy about it, I wouldn't take any sort of satisfaction in them losing.

Your comment is if nothing else interesting; so you as Mets and Yankees fans can rib each other because in the end you're all New Yorkers, but if someone else ribs the Yankees, you take offense to it.

That's one interesting take, I'll give you that.

The article highlights what the local sports people have been saying for a while, the lack of leadership, from players and manager, has really hurt the team. The loss of Werth looms larger and larger as the season goes on. Also the problem with the regular replacement of the managers. There is simply no consistency from leadership positions. The talent should have been enough to win, but it has not been enough to overcome the leadership problems. -- Al

You can’t overestimate experienced managers, although the Red Sox obviously picked the right person.

The mental side of baseball. Like me, your probably never heard of the late Ken Ravizza but he’s probably one of the most important coaches in the last twenty or so years.
