I don’t think MadBum is a NE kind of person. I don’t think think he’d like it up here. I think he’d find a smaller city and less crazy area more to his liking.
Local rumor has him headed towards the Rangers. :rolleyes2: -- AlI know the rumor mill is based on hype not fact, but Bay Area sports talk is saying that the Dodgers have really ramped up their pursuit of Rendon in the past couple of days.

Jason, understood, however the speculation is that Rendon wants to get back to his home state, maybe giving Texas the edge over more WS, as odd as that may sound. Rendon has always been a low-key, under the radar sort of personality and going to Texas will better fit that persona, even with a huge payday. Guess it depends on who comes up with the most non-deferred money offer. I haven't given up on him staying in DC, yet. -- AlAl:
That was actually at the heart of the discussion. It appears that the Dodgers want to try and swoop in before he signs with the Rangers.
I am not knocking Texas, but if he does sign there chances are he will fade into anonymity while collecting a huge check, however he could be competing for World Series Championships for many years to come in LA (with the huge paycheck ).

Cole Hamel to the Braves and Zack Wheeler to the Phillies on a 5 year, $118 mil contract. That's a lot of money for a 29 year old with 44 career wins. Time will tell on this one. -- Al
So Hamels signed with the Braves, eh? That's good. There was talk in Philly about bringing him back. There certainly is nostalgia for the Cole Hamels of 2008 among the fans. But Cole Hamels 2019-2020 isn't Cole Hamels 2008, and to sign him for a single season didn't sound to me like a wise decision for the Phillies. When I heard the first suggestion that they would try to sign him, I thought to myself, "They never should have traded him away in the first place."
Prost!

Nats have agreed to a deal to keep Howie Kendrick, a key component in the WS championship team. On the down side, Nats owner Mark Lerner has publicly admitted for the first time that the Nats cannot afford to keep both Stras and Rendon (duh, a poorly kept secret, eh). Nats fans have been more or less prepared to lose at least one of them, although hoping it wouldn't happen, but Lerner admitting it is a new twist. Now the hope is that the Nats don't lose both.:rolleyes2: -- Al
Nats ownership taking a huge beating by the local sports pundits for saying that they couldn't afford to keep both. Lots of people crying that this simply isn't true. It would have been better to say nothing, I mean, what was the point to such an announcement? Many saying it makes the owners look like cheapskates (if such a label can be applied to billionaire baseball team owners). Fans are particularly upset that Rendon wasn't signed to big money many months ago to head off this whole FA thing, but Rendon played it smart, had a huge season, and will cash in beyond any extension the Nats may have offered. Many see a repeat by the Lerners of the whole Harper mess where Harper walked over what turned out to be minimally more money than the Lerner's offered. Fans are now hoping that Rendon doesn't walk over what turns out to be a few million bucks. -- AlNats have agreed to a deal to keep Howie Kendrick, a key component in the WS championship team. George, I was thrilled with the pennant and the WS was the cherry on top. Everyone who followed the team closely knew this FA massacre was coming. Time to sign who you can and play ball with the best team you can field. That's baseball. Is it March yet?:wink2: -- AlThey won the World Series for the first time EVER less than two months ago.
I guess the shine has already worn off of that apple.
"At this rate, we have NO SHOT of repeating!"
When the Red Sox won the WS for the first time in 86 years, they earned a get out jail card with me for life, if they never won another one, I would have been a happy fan until the day I kicked the stick, just about every other RS fan I talked to felt the same way, my Dad included.
Fans have short memories elsewhere I guess.
