2019-2020 Hot Stove League (2 Viewers)

This from a Yankees fan on another message board I belong to. They haven't even won one yet and he's already penciling them in for four..........and you people wonder why I hate the Yankees so much;

This century’s World Series winners through the first 20 seasons looks a lot like the last one. Boston had five titles thru 1919. Yanks had zero. Maybe NY is gearing up for a dynastic run. This team has won 203 games over the past two seasons, without an ace. If Cole can sustain his excellence through age 32, the Yanks might get on a roll. Nobody has repeated since 1999-2000. That’s the organizational goal. Win one, and don’t stop. Try to win three or four.

I ain’t wondering bro ^&grin

The one place I don't want Bumgarner to go is LA.

Anywhere but LA...................
I'd add the NL East to that. Things are tough enough without him going to one of the Nats competitors. :wink2: -- Al

Reports are the Angels are making a big push to sign Rendon and trying to get it done tonight. Now, Trout and Rendon would be a heck of a combination, at bat and in the field, but they don't pitch.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Rendon to the Angels for 7 years @ $245 mil. Not bad for Tony 2-Bags. Sorry to see him go but it was all but a done deal after the Nats signed Stras. Good luck and thank you, Mr. Rendon. -- Al

Rendon is a huge signing for the Angels. I think they will go after some pitching now as their staff was one of the worst, if not the worst in MLB last year.

Their entire staff had 22 quality starts in 2019. In contrast Gerrit Cole had 26 all by himself.

As crazy as it sounds Bumgarner doesn't want to play there because of the DH! He wants his at-bats!!!!

Bums to the Diamondbacks? And Kluber to Texas? That's two deals that have surprised me. Actually, a lot surprised. -- Al

Angels GM, whom the fans incessantly complain about, missed the boat on this one. I’m sure the Twins are unhappy; they reportedly really wanted him. In the end, maybe he just wanted to be in a smaller market with minimal attention.

I'd like to be a fly on the wall in an Angels braintrust meeting. Like to know what they are up to. They have put together an extremely impressive/dangerous hitting line-up, but have absolutely no pitching worthy of the title and have now missed out on 4 of the top pitchers to be had. The Angels pitching leader in 2019 had a grand total of 102 innings, and was the only pitcher on the staff with 100 innings pitched. They need to get their act in gear and sign/trade for some decent pitchers or that HoF line-up is going to be an also-ran again. Good news is there is still plenty of time to put something together. -- Al

Can’t disagree there. For example, the Mets just signed Wacha and Porcello. Now, these are not great pitchers but on the Angels they would have been of immense help. I don’t know if the Angels were trying to sign them. Maybe they were but they have been very quiet on the pitching front. Maybe Cole and then Rendon consumed all their attention.

Bumgarner to Arizona doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, but I am relieved that he didn’t sign with the Dodgers.

The Giants front office is saying that they did make an effort to sign Bumgarner without giving any specifics.

They are also saying that they can't do much in free agency for the next 2 years because so much money is tied up in bloated veteran contracts that they handed out to players in their prime.

In other words, there is lots of money being paid to guys who were once great.

I see the Angels are slowly moving towards bolstering their SP with the signing of Julio Teheran from Atlanta. With the ex-O's pitcher Dylan Bundy, the Angels now have viable #4 and #5 pitchers but they still need to fill the huge gaps at 1,2, and 3. Obviously, Ohtani is slated for one of those spots but he is coming off TJ surgery and will have to be watched and possibly used a little less than the Angels might like. I think the Angels missed another possibility by not taking a shot at Gio Gonzalez, but there are still some others out there. -- Al

The first-line FA pitchers are going fast Keuchel goes to the White Sox and now MLB network is reporting Ryu is going to Toronto for 4 years @ $80 mil. The White Sox appear to be serious about contending this year and have built what looks to be a decent starting rotation. Toronto also appears to be serious, having signed Ryu, gotten Roark, and are now talking to the Red Sox about Price. Instant starting rotation. -- Al

The Dodgers seem to be in the hunt for every FA while signing no one.

Knowing my luck the year they don't do anything will be the year they win it all.

Don Larsen, author of the only perfect game in WS or post-season history, passed away on Jan.1 at the age of 90. Larsen hurled his gem in the 1956 series against Brooklyn, beating Sal Maglie 2-0 in Game 5. -- Al

The Nats have signed Will Harris, former Houston bullpen ace, to a 3 year contract. It will bolster the Nats pen as he was a very effective pitcher for the Astros, with a 1.50 ERA. The ironic aspect to this signing is that Harris was the pitcher that gave up Howie Kendrick's go ahead Hr in Game 7 in the WS. He also gave up a 2-run Hr to Rendon in Game 6. I'm sure that these will never be mentioned in the Nats clubhouse.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Evidently, the Chicago White Sox have lost their minds. They have signed Luis Robert to a 6 year, $50 million contract, and he hasn't played a single game in the majors yet. Now this is what I call gambling. :rolleyes2: -- Al

The Giants finally signed someone, 32 year old starter Tyson Ross. He is 44-70 with a 4.04 ERA in his career.

I don't think it is time to plan that World Series parade yet.

Nats have bolstered their infield by bringing Asdrubal Cabrera back and adding Stalin Castro. They have to address 3rd base and maybe another bullpen piece, but they have not stood still on their laurels. -- Al
