2019-2020 Hot Stove League (1 Viewer)

If only the NFL had the guts to do this.

Because Belicheat and Shady Brady, AMIRITE!!!!

:rolleyes2:

Cora is the one who cooked this whole thing up, so he's going to really get whacked, two years, five years, banned for life, double secret probation, who knows.

And he's as good as gone here, he'll get fired the second his suspension/ban gets announced.

Gee, I feel so bad.....maybe we can replay the 2018 World Series...………..or better yet, vacate the championship and give it to the Dodgers instead.

Same for 2017, vacate that championship and give it to the Dodgers.

Seems fair to me.

Not to mention it's the only way the Dodgers are ever going to win a championship.

At this point I am not sure where I stand on the fines/punishments.

On one hand they seem draconian, on the other hand MLB clearly needed to send a message that this type of behavior will not be tolerated.

As a preemptive strike by the Sox, perhaps? Probably won't help. -- Al

No, as punishment. Beltran got off easy. I thought he was involved to some degree but perhaps they decided to not punish the players.

Brandon Taubman, who was involved in the reporter incident, was also suspended.

After reading some articles it seems like Hinch at least knew about the scheme but Luhnow did not.

So why punish the GM?

The Astros are holding people in their organization responsible. It's the right and honorable thing to do at this point. A rare thing these days. Other organizations are concerned only with winning. When they are caught cheating, they claim to be the victims of a conspiracy of haters jealous of their success. They destroy evidence, cover up, lie and do everything possible to avoid being held accountable. Deny, deny and then accuse. So I give the Astros ownership a lot of credit here in dealing swiftly with a bad situation. They could have whined and cried about the punishment and drawn this out but they did the right thing instead.

Beltran probably won’t be fired but in my opinion he should be; his guilt is as evident as everybody else.

Chris Russo is taking everyone involved in this scandal to the woodshed, big time. He is blistering the Astro players as cheaters, demanding that Cora and Beltran be fired, and in general is furious at the whole mess. Well, Russo is nothing if not passionate. -- Al

I’m glad he’s not on WFAN anymore. Too hard to take.

I still do not understand why the GM was suspended/fired?

According to the reports he had no idea this was going on. Does that mean his fault and culpability came down to simply not knowing?

Manfred circulated a memo in late 2017 warning all teams about using tech to cheat and that there would be serious repercussions if there were future violations. The Houston GM did nothing with it and didn’t mention it to Hinch; he ignored the memo. He was also probably punished for the culture he created down there. He’s the GM and this happened on his watch. He had to pay the price.

Brad:

Thanks for the info, that makes sense.

And now Cora is gone.

Is Beltran next?
For Cora, a foregone conclusion once that report was published. Beltran is next on the chopping block. In other news, Josh Donaldson has signed with the dark horse Twins @ $92 million over 4 years. Surprised me. Nats now have to go to Plan B or C or... -- Al

Al:

That is a surprise as it was recently reported that the Twins did not want to go over 4 years and $80 mil.

It could be worse, the current Giants 3rd baseman is Evan Longoria who hit .254 with 20 HRs last season. Not bad until you consider they still owe him $65 mil. over the next 4 seasons.
