If it wasn't a huge advantage, then why did they go to such extremes to do it? Houston and Boston did pretty well with both winning a WS and the Astros coming within one game of another WS. The moral equivalency argument is weak sauce. A lot of people rob banks, so no one should be held accountable when they are caught for robbing a bank? Try that one in front of a judge. Maybe other teams do this. Maybe they don't. We know Houston and Boston did and they got caught. Now it is hammer time. I agree with you on the NFL. They take too long and have let the Pats get away with murder. Goodell will look weak if he lets the Pats get away with it again after MLB has been decisive and dropped the hammer on cheating.
'

Again, I am no Patriots fan, but what "murder" have they gotten away with? They got caught on Spygate and received largest fines at the time. Got an even larger one for the still not proven Deflategate (which by the way Flacco and Big Ben both admitted is done by every team as close to the rule as possible and sometimes over). Now this filming which honestly looks like a big waste of time and idiocy. I think they deserve a standard fine for ignorance of the rules, but I don't think you lose a draft choice on this one or any such punitive measure. Again, what murder have they gotten away with other than being the team of the Decade? Jeez, I don't like them winning all the time, but no cheating gave them the greatest SB comeback ever to beat Atlanta or the Dumbassinine of the year coaching by Pete Carroll to win another? Seriously, they have won and lost all the big ones fair and square.

Oh yeah George, the comment about “that’s the only way the Dodgers can win”. That’s MLB saying this, not the Dodgers! How much commentary are you reading or hearing about how the Dodgers are or their fans crying about this?

The Los Angeles City Council is expected to vote within the next week on a resolution urging Major League Baseball to recall the championship trophies presented to the Houston Astros in 2017 and the Boston Red Sox in 2018 “and award them to the
Los Angeles Dodgers
.”

Councilman Gil Cedillo, one of the sponsors of the resolution, said he expects the council to approve it. As of late Wednesday, the city clerk had not yet determined what day the resolution would come up for a vote.

Cedillo, whose district includes Dodger Stadium, said neither the Dodgers nor his constituents had requested the resolution.

“This is an equity and justice thing,” Cedillo said. “Who was the best team in 2017? Who was the best team in 2018? It was the Dodgers. They got beat by teams that were cheating.

“Do they need to be told that they shouldn’t have a title?”

Rockies have made a hash of the whole Arenado "situation". Arenado sounds very unhappy with the state of the team and the seeming disrespect that has been directed at him by management. Arenado wants to win and that seems to be contrary to the vibes he is getting about the team being in a possible rebuild, which is not what he thought he was getting when he signed his huge 8 year contract 18 months ago. Anybody want a really good player at 3B? Could be yours for the remaining $234 mil and 7 years on the contract. Line starts to the left...are you listening Rizzo? :rolleyes2: -- Al

Rockies are apparently asking for a lot; that is the problem. Paying his annual salary isn’t. Teams like the Yankees can easily pay that.

I was born and raised in LA and lived there until 2009.

Simply put:

The poor shape of LA these days, require there full attention and they need to leave the matters of baseball to MLB.

MLB know more about the facts than LA City Council.

Exactly. It's rank virtue-signalling.

I always liked Larry Walker.

I was at a Giants game once (at Candlestick) when they were playing the Rockies. Someone hit a ball to the warning track, Walker caught it and the runner on third tagged up. He made an absolute perfect throw to home plate and the runner was tagged out. To this day it remains one of the best plays I have ever seen at a live sporting event.

MLB is sweating now as the LA City Council has passed a resolution urging MLB to vacate the 2017 WS title of the Astros and the 2018 WS title of the Red Sox and award both titles to the Dodgers. As soon as I stop laughing, I will pay rabid attention to what MLB does with this 'suggestion'.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Braves make a big splash by signing Marcell Ozuna to a 1-year, $18 million deal. Atlanta has a scary good line-up. The NL East is going to be a real blast. -- Al

The Braves could field a bunch of second graders and they’d still beat the Mets.

I wouldn't be so sure, that organization is a tire fire, so much unfulfilled potential...…….all of that success, all the great players and they have a whopping one WS title to show for it.

Their latest meltdown vs the Cardinals is exhibit A.

Some truth. But as I recall the Pats and R Sox had a decade or three of missed opportunities, near misses and wait til next years. Then the worm turned.

Lady Fortune is a capricious *****, no doubt. But I expect she will cast her gaze this way, eventually.

(Wanta talk tire fire look at the Hawks. Theyve been circling the drain for +20 years. If Cam Reddish didn’t live in my building I would hardly know the team existed)

Being a Pirate fan, I have outright hatred for the Braves. May they never win another game that matters my entire life and I would be thrilled.

Missed opportunities are one thing...……………...that team was absolutely loaded in the 1990's, they lost a WS to the Twins.

And they blew a 2-0 series lead to the Yankees.

Their rotation was stacked, there is no way, no how they should have only won one WS title.

And they've had some very good teams since that just can't get over the hump.

I have a soft spot for them as they started here in Boston.

And they have a tremendous uniform.

And they had the greatest home run hitter ever in Hank Aaron.

It looks like the Mets are replacing Beltran with Luis Rojas.

Don't let the last name fool you, he is not some unknown guy, he has the pedigree. His father is Felipe Alou and his brother is Moises Alou.

On top of that he is apparently a huge Sabermetrics guy.

Yeah, he looks like a good choice as he is a long time Mets guy and at least has minor league managing experience. Great family ties. Interested to know what Brad thinks of him. -- Al

Al:

I was wondering the same thing re: Brad.

The whole thing seems like an anti climax to the Beltran situation, which was not well handled well; the GM’s conference call was a disaster. The situation could have been avoided had they hired Girardi, who wanted the job. This is a team that is ready to compete (not saying they’re going to win) and they have another rookie manager when they should have hired someone more experienced. There was also a story circulating that management was afraid to hire someone who was experienced because of what the new owner to be might say; you can’t make decisions that way. So, all in all the whole thing seems anti climatic.

I had the same thought about a rookie manager, thus my statement about him having had some minor league experience. At least he is a Mets guy and not a complete flyer. -- Al
