Re: Mookie Betts Baseball Trade: My Thoughts...Anymore thoughts?

Have a look in the 2020 Hot Stove League thread. I think there's a good discussion of the trade going on there, too.

Re: Mookie Betts Baseball Trade: My Thoughts...Anymore thoughts?

My thought is we have already have a baseball thread and that my favorite Mookie is Wilson.

Re: Mookie Betts Baseball Trade: My Thoughts...Anymore thoughts?

The two threads should be merged as he made a lot of great points.

I don't think the Red Sox have any shot of him coming back here.

I hope the Dodgers find a way to keep him.

As comical as it sounds, the Giants, the arch rival of the Dodgers are my second favorite team, then the Cardinals, then the Dodgers, then the A's.

So I hope he stays with the Dodgers, we'll see...…………………..

Yeah . . . reminds me of the Harry Frazee - Babe Ruth saga. The former was a theatrical owner as well as owner of the Sox who needed cash for a new production, so he sold the Babe to the Yankees. We all know the rest.

Of course, the situation is different now, and the Sox have to recover they can for Mookie, yet it still haunts us Sox fans.

Not sure if it will be necessary to play the 2020 season as the LA Dodgers and NYY's seem to have the pennants already sewed up (according to the pundits), with the NYY's the favs to win the WS. Could just play the WS in April and fill in those pesky regular season games as the spring and summer go on just for amusements sake. :rolleyes2: -- Al

If the Gashouse Gorillas end up anything less than 162-0, I'd be stunned.

Pencil them in for a title for the next five years and get it over with already.

Loved how Cashman went on and on about building from within, making smart trades and Hal babbled about how they were going to remain fiscally responsible; losing in the ALCS twice to the Astros and in the divisional round once to the Red Sox and wham, presto, changeo, they fill a dump truck full of dough and drop it off at Cole's house.

Gee, the Yankees buying a WS title; color me shocked...………………..zombie George must have convinced them to do otherwise and spend, spend, spend...……………...one WS title this century does not sit will with Frankie, Double J, Vinnie, Paulie, big petey, medium petey and joey bag of donuts...………….

I thought the Dodgers were going to hold their breath until they turned Dodger blue, unti the Astros' championship is taken away.

Speaking of the Astros, did anyone see that abortion of a news conference they held today? The owner should be ashamed. Thought the lockerroom interviews were much better, heartfelt but the official statement was terrible. -- Al

I didn’t see it but heard it was pretty bad. The players are going to be in for a rough time from other players and fans for the first month or two. Things may level off when they see an opponent the second time through the schedule.

Sure hope this whole cheating thing kind of slinks off into the shadows as it is currently overwhelming spring training news. As an example, the Astors and Nats share the training facility in West Palm Beach. On reporting day for pitchers/catchers, there were 40 news cameras on the grounds to cover activities and 37 were on the Astros and 3 were on the Nats. All anyone cares about or is asking about is the cheating scandle. The Nats, WS champs, had only 3 cameras on them and even then most of the questions were in regards to the Astros. It is predictable, I suppose, but it sure is annoying. Kenesaw Mountain Landis would have taken care of this problem but all I see right know is this black cloud hanging over baseball and staying there until something decisive is done, and I don't mean just canning a few scapegoats as has been done. It's going to be a rough go for the Astros players this season and I hope MLB can get past it with the start of regular season games, giving fans something else to concentrate on. -- Al

Al...

I watched it...
Bregman and Altuve didn't really admit to anything...
and didn't seem very sincere or apologetic to me...
not much of an apology or admission of guilt to me...
not very remorseful in my opinion...
I was not impressed...

they deserve everything they get...

Mike, this whole thing just seems to be getting uglier and uglier with even veiled threats being made about throwing at Astro batters. The situation can't be allowed to reach the point where on field retaliation is seen as some sort of 'fair' solution by frustrated opponents. Manfred needs to do something decisive and not just sit on his hands, hoping that it all blows over without too much more fuss. -- Al

I disagree. Let the players handle. The last thing I want to see is Manfred getting involved. The players are angry and there will be retribution, maybe as early as next week.

They usually only have 1 camera on them, so there you go...………………...

Carlos Correa says the Astros won the 2017 WS fair and square.

Good point. I shouldn't complain as any publicity is better than no publicity...but then we're not used to the spotlight outside of the political arena in DC. :wink2: -- Al

The Astros are lucky George wasn't on the other teams that they cheated . . . he would have hurt them with snide humor {sm2} . . . and beanballs.{sm4} Can you imagine his pet name for Altuve? Shortie? Too Tall? I'm sure he would have come up with a great one, after all the Sherman Klump and Quasimodo posts?^&grin And for the team itself? Instead of the Gashouse Gorillas, would they have been the A-Holes?:wink2: If only Boston had lost to the Astros . . . I guess a guy can only dream . . . :rolleyes2:

The cheating scandal continues to dominate baseball news. Braves outfielder Nick Markakis says of the Astros, "I feel like every single guy over there needs a beating. It's wrong. They're messing with people's careers." Boy is this ever going to be interesting once the season gets going...:rolleyes2: -- Al

Try spring training. It wouldn’t surprise me that every team the Astros play gets a warning before a game starts.

We will find out soon enough.
