The Astros are lucky George wasn't on the other teams that they cheated . . . he would have hurt them with snide humor {sm2} . . . and beanballs.{sm4} Can you imagine his pet name for Altuve? Shortie? Too Tall? I'm sure he would have come up with a great one, after all the Sherman Klump and Quasimodo posts?^&grin And for the team itself? Instead of the Gashouse Gorillas, would they have been the A-Holes?:wink2: If only Boston had lost to the Astros . . . I guess a guy can only dream . . . :rolleyes2:

Yeah, I'm sure it sucks for you as a Gashouse Gorillas fan that the Astros beat your team not once, but twice in the ALCS with blatant cheating, that's two more potential WS titles the gashouse gorillas got screwed out of.

Gee, what a shame, myself and the rest of the baseball world weeps for Yankees fans everywhere; you, Sal, Vinnie, Paulie, Paulie Jr, Big Petey, Little Petey, Joey bag of donuts, Tony and the rest of the fellas...……………………….

Hey Louis, on a brighter note, I see Gardner, oh, sorry, "Gardy" has a stalker that he had to take a restraining order out on.

So there are women out there who have the hots for men with massively huge, bulbous, misshapen heads then?

Maybe the attraction she feels is his head's gravity pulling her into orbit.

Imagine how many neck holes he's ruined in his day on some finely knit garments.

Wow, to each her own...……………...

George, you kill me every time, Gardner's "massive huge, bulbous, misshapen head," priceless!{sm4} However, you do tend to whine like my 12 year old daughter. I'll stop worrying about Yankees Championships when you stop worrying about Patriots Super Bowls. As I recall, the Giants didn't even cheat and you had a pretty good meltdown after both Giants-Patriots super bowls. So me and my friends Joey Bag a Donuts and Vinny Pigeons will remain pissed about getting cheated by the A-Holes, as will the Dodgers fans, and the teams your Rude Sox beat on the way to your last title (oh yeah, that was the Gas House Gorillas and Dodgers too). I wonder what slap on the wrist MLB is planning for your cheating hearts?

Yeah, good for you and the rest of the Giants fans regarding those two super bowl wins.

Can't win em all, I'll take 6 any day of the week and twice on Sunday, only one other team in the history of the NFL has that many wins, so the Patriots are in good company in that regard.

Brady is all but gone, so a 7th may never happen, so I am happy for the 6 and that's that.

So had the Red Sox not cheated and knocked off the Yankees in the ALDS, that would be 3 WS titles in a row for the Yankees.

Wow, that really stinks...……….

Whatever punishment MLB hands out is what they hand out, doesn't change the fact that they won.

Whine like a 12 year old girl huh?

Really?

HMMM...…….ok then.

George, George, George, look at my original post, and point out where I mentioned the Yankees winning those championships . . . cause I did not. And I didn't even mention your team. I just was joking about how I wished I was half as funny as you, and could carve up their players with sarcasm like you carve up my "Gas House Gorillas" (one of my all time favorite Loony Toons). If you recall, in posts that season I didn't think the Yankees would get out of the first round, and was thrilled with them getting as far as they did. The Yankees got cheated, not out of a championship, but out of the Astros home games in that particular series. There is no guarantee they would have won that series, or the World Series if the A-Holes played it straight, but there is no question that the A-Holes did not. And as to your comment that your Rude Sox won last year while cheating, but they still won a championship, you also overlook one salient fact. The Astros and the Red Sox will be remembered as the teams that needed to cheat to win titles that every baseball fan will know is tainted. You may remember that when the Yankees won with steroid cheats like Clemons and Pettitte and A-Rod, I said the titles in 1999, 2000 and 2009 were tainted, and, as a baseball fan as well as a Yankee fan, I don't consider them championships. I guess a tainted championship is good enough for you, but it will never be good enough for me. Oh, but I forgot . . . you are also a Patriots fan. Go figure.:rolleyes2:

Yeah I don't get the whole "they won by cheating angle"...……...I really don't.

The Astros supposedly cheated in 2017, 2018 and 2019, they won one WS title in those years.

Not three.

The Red Sox cheated in 2018 and 2019; in 2019, they did not even make the playoffs.

The Patriots according to people cheated from 2001 through 2019; they won 6 Super Bowls, not 19. The year they went 16-0, they did so AFTER being caught filming from the sidelines; in the AFCCG where they allegedly played the first half with underinflated footballs, they scored 10 points; in the second half with properly inflated footballs, they scored 28 points.

I can't believe I'm going down this road again, but here I go.

The two "cheating" controversies the Patriots have been involved in; first one was they and all other teams were told by the league in a memo "It's no longer permissible to film the opposing teams sidelines FROM THE FIELD, but you can film FROM THE COACHES BOXES OR ANYWHERE ELSE"...……...they got caught filming from the sidelines, Belichick in a statement admitted he was wrong, it was on him for allowing that. SO, what they DID was not illegal/cheating, WHERE they did it from was.

Second incident; they were reported for underinflating footballs in the AFCCG by the Colts. The league dropped 5 million dollars in an investigation that came to the conclusion that there was no smoking gun, no A HA moment, no nothing, just that Brady was "generally aware" of wrongdoing.

I hope I am never on trial for my life and found to be guilty of being "generally aware"...……….

We keep rehashing this "The Patriots are cheaters" mantra; why? Because fans for the most part cannot accept the fact that one team in the salary cap era for 19 years has won 17 division championships, gone to 13 AFCCG's and NINE Super Bowls, winning six.

"How on earth did they do that?"...…………"videoing the other teams sidelines FROM THE WRONG SPOT and underinflating footballs (so the ideal gas law is not in play then huh?) is how!!"

My God it's laughable.

It really is.

They didn't manipulate the salary cap like the Broncos did, they didn't pipe in crowd noise like the Colts and Falcons did, they did not use stickum laced towels or use heaters on the sidelines to heat up kicking footballs so they'd travel further in cold weather like the Chargers and Panthers did just to name a few cheating incidents that resulted in no draft picks being stripped of players being suspended like the league did to the Patriots, but hey, you have to come up with ways to level the playing field and keep the other jealous, petty owners happy.

But keep making that the hill you want to die on...…….."

Sorry there Louis, I don't consider any of the Patriots titles tainted, I sleep pretty good at night as a Patriots fan, ie, I don't give a rats *** what you or anyone else thinks of the championships they won, they won them fair and square, just like they lost three of them fair and square.

Apologies if this post came across as heavy handed; after the distressing news I got early this morning about Gordon, I probably should have taken a break from posting today...………………………...apologies again everyone and if nothing else, the news about Gordon puts all of this nonsensical bullshit over sports into perspective...……………….as Warren Zevon said, enjoy every sandwich...………………..

George,

Your post wasn’t heavy handed, I took it as part of the usual banter of friends who support teams that are arch rivals. Losing Gordon was a kick in our collective bollocks and can only serve to sports in its correct perspective: it’s a kids game that entertains and distracts us. I probably would never have mentioned the Patriots had a not been on various heavy duty prescription drugs as I recover from my second back surgery 2 weeks ago. I am not as funny as you are, so in all seriousness, Just as when you lost your wonderful father, I would give all the Yankee and Giants championships to give Andy and his family one more day with Gordon. I am done kicking the 2017-2019 dead horse. Next time we rob each other, let it be about what’s happening as a season progesses.

Your old friend,

Louis

"A kids game that entertains and distracts us"........................awesome, totally spot on.

A kids game played by millionaires to boot.

Get better Louis, your health is the most important thing in the end.

Thanks again.....................

Thank you, my friend. By the way my post was supposed to read "bug each other" not "rob each other," I have no idea how that happened. LOL

I had baseball fever pretty hard the last couple of seasons...
I went to 9 games last year...I even bought a $90 Altuve jersey and a $25 Astro's hat...
I watched all of their tv games...didn't miss a one of them...

I'm not much of an Astro's fan this year...I can't condone cheating...
I just can't stand cheaters...
I'm embarrassed to wear the jersey or hat...
they just sit in the back of the closet gathering dust...
I don't intend to got to or watch any games this year...
I will probably jump back in somewhere in the future...
but right now I'm pretty disappointed with the entire organization...

I have no problem with the monetary fines...the loss of draft picks...the firing of staff...the public humiliation...the boo's...the negative signage at games...the editorials or the bad press...
you cheat and you pay the price...
you can't get away with this...

I can't completely tune them out 100%...
or any Houston sports for that matter (football/basketball)...
it's almost impossible...
it's always on the local news...

I heard a stat on the radio today...
7 Astro's batter have been hit with wild pitches so far in just 5 games...
and the umpires have called them all unintentional...
that's kind of alarming...

I understand other organizations and players are mad...
but this seems to be a pretty dangerous form of retaliation...

Mike:

I know it isn’t easy but try and stay a fan of your team and the sport itself.

I call myself an Astros fan because of geography and the plentiful coverage I get of the team when I am home. I like to set-up toy soldiers as I listen to the games in the background. While I am not happy about the cheating scheme or the players involved, once the season starts I’ll be in my toy soldier room, listening to the games as I enjoy my favorite hobby.

As far as hit batters, the Giants once had a pitcher (I can’t remember his name) who had an interesting take on hitting a batter in retaliation for another team’s perceived offenses. He said he would begrudgingly do it on orders from his manager. However he preferred to strike a guy out because watching him walk back to the dugout was better than watching him walk to first.

Anyone who thinks that it is fair to hit a batter in retaliation for the sign stealing scandal should take a look at the video footage of Willie Calhoun getting hit in the face on Sunday when the Rangers played the Dodgers.

Nice post Mike. Good to see that there are some sports fans that don't put winning above everything else.

It seems almost forgotten that the Red Sox were once under investigation for sign stealing during the 2018 season?

MLB isn’t doing them any favors by dragging this into spring training.

Had surgery yesterday to repair fractured jaw . Checkup in 2 weeks . Hope he recovers soon as the Rangers are looking sharp in training and also have a shiny new ball park to play in

I didn’t see the particular incident but major league pitchers know how to place the ball without causing serious injury when they wish to make a point.

Brad:

I tend to agree with you but all it takes is one to get away and you can really hurt someone.

Jose Urias was the Dodger who threw the pitch that hit Calhoun, he said the pitch was a mistake, which can obviously happen. I get it, but the sound of the ball hitting Calhoun’s face was nauseating.

With every other sports league shutting down/cancelling events, MLB can't be far behind. I don't expect that Opening Day is going to occur. -- Al
