2019 Baseball season (3 Viewers)

Al...

great game for you!
broke my heart...^&grin

never seen Verlander give up 9 hits...
or Osuna give a walk off HR...
that was brutal...

here's an interesting article from ESPN...

The Houston Astros are the biggest favorites of the season today against the Baltimore Orioles. The Astros closed as -450 favorites at Caesars Sportsbook. Other sportsbooks went even higher, listing Houston as high as -550 at Station Casinos sportsbooks in Nevada. The Los Angeles Dodgers were -485 favorites over the Atlanta Braves in 2016, the largest price on a favorite in an MLB game in at least the last 15 seasons, according to sports betting database BetLabSports.com.

-5.50 means you need to bet $550.00 on the Astros to win to collect a measly $100.00
the opposite of -5.50 at Stations Casino in Las Vegas was...
+3.75...which means if you bet $100 on the O's and they win...you collect $375.00

When I saw the lead-in to the game today about how deGrom is almost unbeatable during the, the Mets beat up on Sanchez, etc., I had a feeling this might not be the Mets’ day, and I was right. Bad defense and poor relief pitching — highlighted by another HR served up by Diaz — makes for a bad mix. Still, 2 out of 3 is a result I will take anytime. It only gets tougher now: the Braves next week.

Brad...if you won the series...you did good...that's 666. average...

I thought I had a winner too...

Al...

I was surprised at the O's pitching choices...
they should have pulled Brooks earlier...
not playing Monday morning coach here...
but when a guy gives up 9 runs...in 2 innings...
with a balk scoring one...
he should of been pulled earlier...

and then finishing the 9th inning with the center fielder pitching...
throwing 52 mile per hour home run derby pitches...
which he got tagged on one...

I just didn't agree with the pitching choices...
kind of a bummer for the fans who bought seats...
Mike, that use of the CF as a pitcher was simply to save the bullpen in a lost cause. The O's have a doubleheader in NY on Monday and with the day game today, the O's just wanted to save some arms. The CF really burns them in there, doesn't he?^&grin Actually, a pitch that slow can really screw up a batter's timing and it takes a concentrated effort for the batter to adjust. -- Al

Yeah, didn't expect the O's to treat Verlander so roughly considering Verlander was 8-1 in his career at Camden Yards. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while... -- Al

Al...actually...he got two pop ups out of it...more effective than a few RP's before him...I was waiting for the Neikro Eephus Pitch...^&grin

I remember that Eephus pitch from long ago. Back in the 60's the Washington Senators were playing the NY Yankees (don't remember where or when, just the event) when a LH relief pitcher for NY named Steve Hamilton tried throwing that pitch to big Hondo Howard, Senators slugger who stood 6'7" and could punish a ball like few men I've ever seen. Well, Hamilton made Howard look really bad on that Eephus pitch the first time he threw him one. Words were exchanged between the two. Don't know what was said, but to my recollection, Hamilton didn't throw Howard that pitch again (though he still used it on others). I guess the lesson is that you don't make the Gentle Giant look bad, get him out, but don't make him look bad. Howard very rarely got angry, but he was so when Hamilton threw that pitch to him. Love to know what was said.:wink2: -- Al

Al...

yea...if it was that effective...I think we would have seen more pitchers doing it...

Me and a girlfriend joined a bowling league when I was about 30...it was fun and I was really pretty good...I went to Nationals about 4-5 times with my friends and won money in individual competition several times...but when I first started...I threw a straight ball...my friends tried to talk me into and teach me how to throw a hook ball...I was resistant and argued...one guy asked me have I ever watched the pros on tv...I said yes I did once in a while...he said they all throw hook balls...if a straight ball was better...they would throw it...I agreed and changed my delivery...my average went up about 15 points per game...

on that note...

in today's news...
under...."You gotta be kidding me?"...
a Pan Am bowler was banned for failing a drug test...
bowlers use PEDs?
come on man!

Great to see that Joe Panik landed with the Mets and is already contributing to their playoff push.

The Giants definitely didn't need a guy like that.

I like Panik but I would have been happier had he gone somewhere other than the Mets or the NL East, in general.:wink2::rolleyes2: -- Al

I always think of Baseball a bit like Cricket, it is like watching grass grow with people in the way............

He is from New York. I truly hope he does well. He was one of those heart and soul guys on the Giants. Much of what he does in helping a team win never shows up on a stat sheet.

I actually wanted Cabrera but he wound up with the Nats. Happy that the Mets could sign Panik.

Cabrera was a good pick-up for us. He was popular in limited action when he was in DC the first time around in 2014. -- Al

I wonder what Gleyber Torres of the NYY's has against the O's. Torres has 26 Hrs on the year, 13 of them have been hit against the O's. He's hit 3 Hrs today, 1 in Game #1 (a NY win) and 2, so far, in the nightcap, which NY leads 11-3 after 6. It's really unbelievable. O's just can't get this guy out, not that the O's can get anybody on the Yankees out very often. NY about to go up 15-2 on the season series. -- Al

The O's have moved into 2nd place in the category of Most Home Runs Allowed in a Season. Allowing 7 Hrs to the NYY's in yesterday's double-header loss, the O's have now allowed 249 Hrs on the season, setting a new AL record and trailing only the 2016 Cincinnati Reds who allowed 258. Seeing as how the O's only trail the Reds by 9 Hrs (with 43 games to play), who can doubt that the 2019 O's will soon be the proud owners of yet another infamous MLB record? At the rate the O's are giving up Hrs to the NYY's, the O's could own the record after the next 2 games.:rolleyes2: -- Al

To think that the Yankees got him for a rental, Chapman, and that Chapman is now on the Yankees. That's called a steal. However, if the Cubs had to do it all over again, they'd still make the trade as it resulted in a championship.

As much as Torres torments the O's, and even though Chapman went back to NY, I'd say it was a good deal for the Cubs, considering how long it took the Cubs to get that WS title.:wink2: -- Al

Thank goodness it's over. The Yankees v O's series, that is. NY won the series finale today, 6-5 and the won the season series 17-2. The O's won 2 of the first 3 games this year then proceeded to lose the last 16 games in a row, some in spectacular fashion. NY set a MLB record with Hrs hit against a given team in a season with 61 Hrs hit in the 19 games. They also had 2 players with double figure Hrs against a given team, Torrez with 13 and Sanchez with 10. Only the second time that's ever been done, the other time was by Ruth and Gehrig way back when. To the rest of the AL, let me apologize for the O's not being able to even slow down the runaway train that NY appears to be. -- Al
