2019 Baseball season (2 Viewers)

Jason....
they always say never get the last out at third base...
Chirinos is not fast...
I think Springer or Altuve...don't remember who...tried to stretch a double to a triple the inning before...
and was thrown out at 3rd also...
bad base running...
do you get to watch them in San Antonio or California?

Mike:

It was Altuve who tried to stretch the double the inning before. When you have that kind of lineup you should just take the double, chances are someone is going to drive you in.

I have a radio subscription that gets their games when I am in Cali. When I am in Texas I get to watch them on TV.

In 124 games, Cody Bellinger is hitting .316 with 42 HRs and 100 RBIs. Pretty good. Yanks-Dodgers starting tonight should be interesting. Maybe a WS preview.

Oakland is on a tear...
a very good home team...
they just beat the Astros 3 out of 4 at home a few days ago...
and leading in the 5th tonight...
have a chance to sweep the Yankees...

As mentioned before I am not an actual A's fan but I do get a healthy dose of their coverage when I am in the Bay Area.

What they accomplish year in and year out is nothing short of amazing. Oakland is 25th out the 30 MLB teams in payroll at just over $93 mil and they play in the worst stadium you can imagine. Yet here they are making a push for the wildcard while sweeping the Yankees and their $217 million dollar lineups.

To put it in further perspective, there are 46 player in baseball whose contracts are worth more than the entire A's roster.

Unfortunately, teams like the A's and Rays and others battling for wild card spots is aside from the play in game, they are not built for a long playoff run, one and done is more like it, or winning the play in game and then getting Blitzkrieged in the ALDS/NLDS, almost no shot at advancing to or winning the World Series.

Nice little story though.

Great post.

On a side note (and I think George has mentioned this before), the A's do have one of the best uniforms/color schemes in baseball.

I don't know how this season will end for the Nats, because of the 'Bullpen from He!!' I expect disaster everytime the Nats lead by less than 4. But what the team has done since bottoming out at 19-31 in late May has been very impressive. They beat the Cubs today, 9-3, to raise their record since the low point in May to 52-26. Their starting pitchers during this stretch have gone 39-10 (and 3 of those losses were by #5 SP fill-ins). I would be a lot more confident in the team's ability to get to and go deep in the playoffs if the 'BfH' didn't have such an important part to play. Anyway, there are still 4 teams alive and well in the NL East so it looks like the predicted dogfight will occur after all. -- Al

I think the Nats hang onto the first WC but the second one is up for grabs and the Mets are playing their best ball of the season right now. Actually, since the All Star Break, no one has played better than they have. Whether that lasts is hard to tell; as Mets fans we always see the glass as almost empty. All we ask is for meaningful September baseball and that may happen this year.

You never want to give coaches too much credit but Chilli Davis has done a good job with the hitters. It seems as if everyone is contributing. Similarly, the Vulture has done a good job with the pitchers. The bullpen still makes you nervous but it’s not as much a disaster area as it was earlier this year. Now that I’ve said that, watch Atlanta hang a 10 spot tonight.

It would be great to see the Mets and the Nats play in the WC game.

If the timing in the rotation was right you might have a deGrom Scherzer match-up.

Hah! Not sure about that. I’m sure you remember the 2016 WC game between Syndergaard and MadBum. Mets never came close to touching him.

Real corker between the Mets and Braves, 1-1 in the 10th. Been a beautifully pitched game on both sides. -- Al

Phillies were winning 7-0 but are now losing 19-9!{eek3}Against the Marlins!{eek3}{eek3}

What is with these hideous black and white uniforms the RS and Padres are wearing, just God awful...……………..is this some goofy theme for the weekend across baseball or just these two teams?

Across MLB. Nats and O's both wore black, which looks better than the white,IMO. -- Al

the Astro's game looked like the milkmen vs the coal miners....and everybody had a nickname on the back of their jersey...

Braves were wearing black and Mets white. Both looked awful.

Anyone know what the theme is, ie, why is every team wearing either black or white?

Another attempt by MLB to peddle alternate jerseys I'm assuming.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has rejected Tom Brady’s attempt to trademark the term “Tom Terrific.” The USPTO ruled that the applied-for mark consists of or includes matter which may falsely suggest a connection with Tom Seaver. Although Tom Seaver is not connected with the goods provided by applicant under the applied-for mark, Tom Seaver is so well-known that consumers would presume a connection.

Under the Trademark Act the registration of a mark that “consists of or comprises matter that may falsely suggest a connection with persons, institutions, beliefs, or national symbols” is prohibited. In re Pedersen, 109 USPQ2d 1185, 1188 (TTAB 2013).

One of the announcers in a game I was watching said the home team had the choice of which 'shade' to wear with the visitor getting the leftover. All I know is the glare off the white unis was very annoying. -- Al

George...this was Players Weekend..In the past, teams wore special edition jerseys for Players' Weekend, but still retained their usual team colors. This weekend, every baseball game on television will be almost indistinguishable...dressed in black or white...

the uniforms reminded me of Boris Bladenoz...the black and white spys from Rocky and Bullwinkle...
