2019 Baseball season (8 Viewers)

Baseball is a great equalizer. Nats are one of the hottest teams in MLB, averaging almost 9 runs per game over their last 9 or 10 games, so what do they do? They allow Baltimore, the worst team in baseball, with the worst starting pitching by far, to shut them out 2-0 with just 4 hits. Talk about a clunker and lost opportunity.:rolleyes2: On the other hand, the O's are now just 3 wins shy of last seasons total of 47. Improvement on the horizon. :wink2: -- Al

Mike, the SP (Verlander, in this case), does indeed get the win if he completes 5 innings and leaves with the lead. -- Al

Al...
ty for the quick reply...
I looked at his stats this morning and saw he had been awarded one more win...
you have probably forgotten more about baseball than I will ever know...

Lost opportunity for everyone in the NL East last night, as EVERYONE managed to lose. The only winner last night were the Cubs, who gained a game on everyone in the WC race. Nights like that are what causes mass forehead slapping incidents.:rolleyes2: -- Al

The Mets had a good run like the Giants did to get back in the race but such runs are not sustainable, especially against good teams and they are not a good team. They’re not bad, just middling. They’re in the tough part of their schedule and since their run have gone 4-6 against good teams. Keith Hernandez made a good point in a tweet yesterday: they get too emotional and need to be more on an even keel. That should come with more experience.

Treefrog baseball experts...
indulge me please...
a question...

when a team makes the playoffs...
as the games are spaced out more that regular season...
do they go down to a 3-4 man starting pitcher rotation?

In the shorter series, you only need three starters. After that you will need a fourth starter for at least one game. A factor can be the strength of your rotation. If you have a strong rotation like the Astros, the fourth starter may start in the divisional series.

Dodgers have to be concerned about Ryu. On 8/11 he won his 12th game to go to 12-2 with a 1.45 ERA. Since then he has gone 0-3, given up 18 earned runs in 14.2 innings and given up 5 Hrs after only giving up 10 Hrs in his 22 starts prior. Has he hit the wall or is he hurt? Big question for LA. -- Al

The importance of having a deep lineup as seen in last nights Marlins Nats game:

In the bottom of the 9th with one out, the Marlins were winning 6-5. The Nats had runners on second and third. The Marlins had no choice but to pitch to Rendon because if you walked him you had to face Soto with the bases loaded. Of course, Rendon hits a single to win it.

Jason, it was a good win but unnecessarily dramatic, once again thanks to the Nats terrible bullpen. The pen threw away two leads, including a lead in the top of the 9th, to put the Nats in the position of having to come from behind to win. I believe it is the 25th blown save for the Nats bullpen. My BP can't take anymore of this crap.:wink2: But a win is a win...^&grin -- Al

don't know how often this has happened in the past...

the Astros have the top 4 pitching leaders in the AL in lowest ERA category this morning...
Verlander...Cole...Grienke...Miley...
probably won't last long...

Miley seems so under rated and over looked by the media...
Verlander...Cole and Grienke get all the headlines...
Miley seems to be an after thought in the press when talking about their team pitching...

Miley is having a season so far above anything he has shown for years that it is easy to overlook and even dismiss to a certain degree, as a fluke. It is shaping up to be his career year, certainly better than anything he has done since 2012. It is amazing and certainly deserves to be recognized, but, as you point out, the other 3 names get the attention but Miley has played a huge part in Houston's year. That is an amazing 4 man rotation the Astros can throw at the opposition. -- Al

Nats beat Miami tonight, 7-0. It is noteworthy for the Nats because Strasburg was the winner, his 16th of the season, a new career high. He went 8 innings, gave up 2 hits, 0 walks and fanned 14. Also, Rendon hit 2 Hrs, giving him 31 on the season, while Soto also hit Hr #30. Rendon now leads the NL in batting at .335 and is tied for the lead in RBI's with 109. Can you say 'MVP'? -- Al

Rendon is clutch. He gets hits and makes plays when his team needs it the most. That is the very definition of an MVP.

big game for Verlander today...
9 innings...120 pitches...1 walk...no hits...2-0 win...
was throwing 98 mph in the 9th...
6th pitcher to ever throw 3 no hitters in the history of the game...

And to think that Detroit once had both Verlander and Scherzer.:rolleyes2: -- Al

The Nats LHP Corbin joined the 200 K club yesterday, joining Strasburg and Scherzer, giving the Nats 3 members this season. Not worth much, but interesting. Nats have 27 games left, all but 3 of them are games against teams with winning records. Tough schedule trying to catch the Braves, doubly so because the Braves refuse to lose. -- Al

The Giants are now 66-71 and 8 games back in the Wild-Card.

Good thing they kept Bumgarner for this playoff run.........

No team can play .800 ball for long. The Braves and Nats got hot simultaneously. Their remaining head to head matches will be heated contests. I think both clubs make the playoffs. From there who knows.

Always kind of knew that the Nats season would come down to the last games against Atlanta, providing that the Nats can manage to beat the Mets and Phillies, and they certainly haven't beaten the Mets very often. Nats have beaten the teams they should beat, but are having trouble against the teams they NEED to beat. We'll see. -- Al
