2019 Baseball season (2 Viewers)

The season was shortened by a worldwide pandemic that has killed 1.2 million people.

Baseball did a great job even having any games.

Yet my lasting memory of the whole season will be of the victory celebration where a player who recently tested positive for the virus ran around mask-less, hugging people and kissing his wife all the while thumbing his nose (literally) at every basic safety precaution put in place to slow the spread.

Having a "World Series" after playing 60 games is like having a "Super Bowl" after playing 6 NFL games or a "Stanley Cup" after playing 24 games.

Hey, I get it, let's get on with our lives and try to have some sense of normalcy.

Yeah; no..............it's a farce.

The virus could disappear tomorrow and I'm afraid it would still be a long time before we see "normal"

Nothing says baseball more to me than a World Series played on a neutral site in front of 5,000 cardboard cuts outs posing as fans.

That's a title Dodger fans can cherish for generations.

I'll take it over getting caught red handed cheating like the Dead Sox. A big * forever hangs over that one.

You're confusing the Red Sox with the Astros.

The Astros are the team that got caught red handed cheating, their manager was fired, they paid fines and lost draft picks.

Understandable as it's hard to keep track as to who you lost World Series to.

I was glad to see Freddie Freeman; he’s one of the great players of this era and has a beautiful swing. I’m sure the Mets had a hand in helping him win the MVP because he’s always worn out the Mets’ pitchers.

Freddy didn't do too badly against the Nats, either. He is a class act. -- Al

Freeman was the right choice for MVP, his numbers and what he meant to the Braves clearly justified it.

In some ways Freddie reminds me of another former Brave, Dale Murphy. Both were/are class acts.

If pro sports, generally, had more of these kind of guys, Id be a huge fan.

I will never understand players like Cano.

He takes PEDs knowing that another violation will result in a suspension that will cost millions, in this case 24 of them.

For what? He isn’t going to get another big contract at his age nor is he going to get anything long term when his contract is up.

I hate to say it, but he was better off relying on his natural skills even if that meant being mediocre, all the while fading into anonymity while he collected his agreed upon money.

It calls into question his 2020 year, .316 BA, 10 HR and 30 RBI. Over the course of a full season that would have averaged into a nice season.

Now that the Mets have new deep pockets ownership, I can’t see Cano returning in 2022. I’m sure they’d rather eat the contract than have him around.

I think he will be 39 coming off the suspension. Like Brad says, I doubt the Mets will keep him, and who wants to sign a 39 year old coming off 3 straight problem years? Cano could be done. Idiot. -- Al

Maybe it is COVID or maybe it is a lack of depth, but this off season seems to lack intensity.
Just what I was thinking last night. I was trying to watch the MLB channel but couldn't get into it. As a matter of fact, I remember very little of this past season and what I do remember seems to focus on 2019 (rather naturally, as a Nats fan). Sorry, but 2020 MLB ends up a huge MEH to me, like it never happened. Time to reset in 2021, if we can. Come on February/March, 2021. -- Al

The reasons there has not been a lot of activity is that there are no winter meetings and because a lot of teams have incurred significant losses due to Covid. Because there have been significant losses a lot of players will be non tendered. The non tender deadline is December so look for things to heat up after that.

I think big players in the market will be the big market teams like the Dodgers, Cubs, Yankees and now that the Mets have the wealthiest owner in MLB, the Mets.

Al & Brad:

As always great points and insights.

Hopefully the Giants are active this off season.

I could not get into this season at all. The only thing I followed was Trout as he is a local boy down here getting his 300th homerun.I don't don't know why he didn't play the last few games.
