2020-2021 Hot Stove League (3 Viewers)

Well, my Nats may be DOA in the NL East, but I see that the dogfight everyone expected has finally developed with the Philles, Braves, and Mets all being within half a game of first place and each other. And the NL East finally has 3 teams above .500. This is going to be a fun run to the pennant. -- Al

I don’t think the Mets can stay in it. First, they have a rough stretch the next two weeks against the Dodgers (two left at home), then onto SF for three, LA for four and back home for three with SF. Second, likely no deGrom for the rest of the year. Too tall an order with a starting rotation that isn’t strong, to be charitable. If I had to pick a team, I’d go with with Atlanta, with 86-88 wins.

The loss of deGrom is a big blow, but the Mets have been missing him for a while and managed to stay above water, until recent troubles. They must survive the schedule against the NL West without falling too far back. Maybe they can pull it off as they have showed an amazing resilience this season. -- Al

Baseball has taken a bad turn here in the Balto/WashDC corridor this month. The O's are now 1-12 in their last 13 games and not to be outdone, the Nats are now 1-12 in their last 13 games. The race is on to see who among the cellar dwellers here in the B/W corridor will win a game again. El Stinko is the current byword for MLB around here.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Al:

We have the exact opposite in the Bay Area.

Both SF and Oakland are playing great baseball right now.

I highly doubt they will meet in the World Series but they both have enjoyed recent winning streaks.

While I am a huge and dedicated Giants fan, I still think the A's are more impressive with the 22nd highest payroll in MLB.

Giants are impressive and I expect that the WS is in their future. Oakland, I expect, will implode in the playoffs like they usually do. Still, I would be happy if either of my local teams could even play decent ball, something they are not capable of right now. Wait till next year...:rolleyes2: -- Al

The Dodgers are rolling but can't pick up any ground on the Giants. If only they could play teams like the Nats and AZ every day, they might go undefeated. The mismatch in MLB between the top teams and bottom dwellers is pretty embarrassing. AZ is almost 40 games out of first place.

Well the Red Sox have done the impossible; blown a NINE game lead on the Yankees, they are now tied after todays disaster, down 5-3 in the top of the 7th of the first game of a double header, based loaded, no outs and some tomato can I've never heard of Louisiana/Lousugaloa/Kakalalalulu mows them down 1, 2, 3 and the Red Sox lose.

Years from now, Yankees fans will point to today as the day Whats his name became a "true Yankee"..........................

After the game, the Yankees pro shop at the stadium reported record sales of Louisiana/Lousugaloa/Kakalalalulu jerseys; both of them flew off the shelves.

And you people wonder why I HATE THE YANKEES WITH EVERY OUNCE OF MY BEING.

That would be Jonathan Loaisiga, who, by the way is from Nicaragua, and has been with the Yankees since 2018. He and Green have done a decent job filling in for Chapman.

Yeah good for him.

Tonight the Yankees completed the sweep, 2-0, some other tomato can blanked them and that stellar bullpen full of nobodies closed it out.

To top it off, the corpse of Stanton hit a home run.

Perfect end to a perfect day.

It could be worse, you could be a Mets fan, who are copying the Red Sox on how to do a free fall.

Brad,
Check this out, talk about a top shelf choke job;

On July 5, the Sox were 54-32, the best record in the AL and held a 4.5 game lead over TB. Since then….

NY 26-11
Tampa 23-11 (1.5)
Toronto 20-15 (5.0)
Boston 15-21 (10.5)
Baltimore 11-22 (13)

To lose 10+ games in the standings in a 36 game stretch to one team, and 9 to another is…not good.

They've blown a 10 game lead on the Yankees in less than 3 weeks........................

****ing embarrassing, they did squat at the deadline, now they are paying for it.

On one of the Boston sports forums I belong to, many of the fans have no clue about the 1978 choke job.

Now they do.

I have been slightly out of touch with travel and work.

I can't help but feel like the Giants will soon join the Sox and the Mets................

The Yankees are pummeling the Twins 7-2; the Twins to the Yankees are the French army to the German army.

They now are first in the wild card standings; three weeks ago they were 7 games out of the second wild card spot.

Are Yankees fans still whining, moaning and droning on about how Boone has to go; I'll hang up and listen...................

The Dodgers continue to roll. Eight wins in a row and 12 out of 13. Only 1.5 games behind the Giants. Not sure they can keep up that pace but they are on fire.

The breadth of their talent is amazing. They are simply the best team in baseball. Kudos to their management team. Of course, it also helps to have a lot of money as they do.

Beginning to smell the aroma of an LA Dodgers vs NY Yankee WS in the air. Would much rather see SF make it but the Dodgers just have so many weapons with a SP staff that is very well set for post-season series. The NYY's seem to have gotten their act together and are on fire. Seemed DOA most of the season but I wouldn't bet against them right now. Still a ways to go and injuries can always derail anyone but things are starting to fall into place for LA and NY. As always, though, there is room for the team that suddenly goes on a tear and carries it through, such as the 2019 Nats, so maybe it could be the Braves or Pale Hose or Astros or... We shall see as we enter the last 40 games. -- Al

Things gotta be real bad when my Rangers beat you 10-1 in your own place .

While making 5 errors along the way, I've seen cleaner little league games.

I'd say they officially bottomed out, but they continue to find new and unusual ways to lose.

Still waiting for the no-name Giants to implode, but they continue to pull out wins.

Just when you think the O's can't get worse, they do. They have now lost 18 in a row and are 1-19 in August. They have had seperate streaks this season where they went 1-14, 0-14, and now 0-18. I'm thinking a 110 loss season at this point and they still would have to finish 14-25 to achieve that, something I'm not at all confident they can do. {sm2} -- Al
