Don't I know it. O's and Nats both in the dumper but I still watch them. Wait till next year...:rolleyes2: -- AlOrioles...Rangers...Diamondbacks...

when the season gets like that for a fan...
it's not much fun to watch...

Mets heading there too. Better to have games than not.
Fell in love with the Giants back in the early 60's. That was a loaded team and it was where I learned the phrase 'wait until next year' as the Giants of that era always seemed to finish 2nd. -- AlThe Red Sox too.......................I still have the Giants, so there's that.
MLB is the only sport where I follow a non Boston based team, been a Giants fan since the 1970's, so there's that.
went to Houston and watched the day game today with a couple of friends...
had a good time...
Astros 5-1...good win...but their line up has lots of injuries...
no Yuli...no Bregman...used Brantley as the DH...
new guy...Jake Meyers brought up to play right field they have so many injuries...
pitching staff preformed well in their 2 game series against Colorado...
but the Rockies aren't the best team to draw an evaluation from...
still a wins a win...
Like many other teams, the Nats have been devastated by injuries the last couple of seasons. 2021 was basically derailed from the start with injuries to such crucial pieces as Strasburg, Lester, and Soto out of the gate. No enough depth to overcome those early injuries and they put themselves behind the 8 Ball from the starting gun. Unlike 2019, the Nats never righted the ship and the Masacree in DC was the result. Sure seems like the move to 5 inning starting pitchers has resulted in the SP's being unable to stretch themselves out with the result that bullpens are being destroyed early and often. Maybe some new techniques are needed in respect to throwing 110% from the first pitch to the last. -- AlInjuries are so understated in MLB.
Mike Trout, Ronald Acuña Jr. and Fernando Tatis Jr. Three of best pitchers in baseball are on the injured list: Jacob deGrom, Gerrit Cole and Shane Bieber. Other huge stars besides the Astros you mentioned who can’t play include, Clayton Kershaw, Francisco Lindor, Stephen Strasburg, the list goes on and on.

Al:
The Nats have been lucky to be competitive with all of their injuries.
In all honesty the one thing that has really kept the Giants at the top this season is that they have not lost productive players for any consequential amount of time.

Brad, Nats fans sure hope they can get better. Right now, we're AAA, at best, and I don't count the pitching staff that high. Soto is the Lone Ranger right now, with no consistent support. Even if we manage to score some runs and get a lead, we haven't the bullpen to hold on. It is going to be an interesting period that tests patience while Rizzo rebuilds the team. -- AlThe Nats are not a good team right now and they were what the Mets needed this week. This is not to say they don’t have some talent but Soto can’t beat you know because you can pitch around him. I’m sure they will eventually get better in the long run.

Yep, patience is the key word in rebuilding. Too bad it came to this but the writing was on the wall. On June 30, the Nats were 40-38, coming off a great June led by a red-hot Schwarber. A couple days later, Schwarber gets hurt and the Nats went in the dumper, surrendered and dismantled the team. They have gone 10-26 since then and it will only get worse. Such is life. -- AlAl, as you know, those things take time and hopefully Rizzo picked up some good prospects. The Mets announcers yesterday mentioned that Soto was frustrated but they pointed to the example of Freddie Freeman; he had to go through the same thing and eventually they built a good team around him.

The Schwarber injury is, indeed, the turning point of the season for the Nats. Schwarber had an unbelievable June, putting the Nats on his back and dragging them to respectability. Then the Nats began a string of games against the NL West, Schwarb went down on July 2, the Nats blew an 8-0 lead in SD a few days later and the tail spin to disaster was underway. The first 11 days of of July were the beginning of the end for this Nats team as they went 2-9 against the west teams. That injury to Scwarbs was a black day for us. -- AlThe Schwarber injury really killed their season because they were on an upward trend then and had gotten close to the Mets, who since June have played mediocre. We’ll find out in the next two weeks whether they’re for real as they play the Dodgers and Giants.
