These are from the Exhibition and dedicated to Rod:

There were three dioramas that caught my eye. Unfortunately, the situation in the exhibition hall does not allow for comfortable or satisfying photography. I therefore focussed on two: One is the "Melon" one of which I already posted some pictures, the second one is the "Teutoburger Forest" one, of which I am hereby posting a small number of the pictures I took. For background, I may refer to the separate thread on this forum (Note: The battle had its 2,000th anniversary last year and was properly celebrated.)

This is a beautiful diorama.Do you know if these figures are from Time Machine Miniatures and painted by Doug Cohen?

Excellent show again. I had a very good time although it appears as if all my treefrogger friends spent the days in the Hospitality Suite whose location was kept a secret from thirsty co-treefroggers. :D

It was OK, though, as this way there was more to buy for me.

Few highlights, though:

Across from Ken's and Britain's was a dealer named "Remsons" offering among many other things these two sets:

Next, around the corner from the Admission Table: Thor Johnson's Aeroart with his reliable quality:

Ted from Tedtoy carried everything I do not like about Jenkin's:

... and everything I do like:

Obviously a tie-in into Britain's successful Nile range.

Trophy:

George had limited stock of First Legion vehicles and soldiers and hence my budget (for today) went to Ted's Monarch Regalia Samurai range.

Hi Andreas, the mounted Aeroart Saracen with hawk is a thing of beauty, excellent photo, many thanks for posting (and also the other ones). That figure is very expensive but it's now on my wish list:D...
Regards,
Paulo

Yes, the figures are all Time Machine - some are the unaltered kits, some have been altered by the artist. The diorama was made and all figures painted by Kevin Townsend. This being some kind of field of special interest to me, I bought the book accompanying the diorama. At $35, I thought it was a little expensive but I am enjoying it quite a bid. Lots of photos and I am just finished with the historical part and will dive into the "diorama" part on my second flight tonight.

I knew that Doug Cohen painted the kits for TMM, I guess for box art.I have seen his painting of them on other forums. The book you have,it is about the battle and the diorama? Is it available anywhere?

More pics from the show.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to post their pictures. Looks like a great show with a lot of good people there. Good to put faces to names. -- Al

Returned late last night from the show, have been plowing through emails today and am now all caught up.

GREAT, great show, staggering numbers in terms of sales, so a million thanks to all of you who came to the show and spent your hard earned dough with me, I greatly appreciate it.

Nice to see so many forum members there; for those of you who live within an hour or so from the VFCC, you are really missing the boat if you do not stop by one of the two days to check this superb show out, the best model figure/toy soldier show on the East Coast (the Hackensack is THE best toy soldier show on the East Coast, the Chicago show is (not to be confused with OTNS) is the best model figure show in the United States.

The exhibit area alone is worth the trip, superbly painted figures and dioramas, plus you get to meet some of the best figure painters in the world at this event.

The MFCA folks do a great job of putting this show together, so thanks to them for running it and bringing home where it belongs, the VFCCC..............

Ok, as promised, here were my buys:

1. Silk Road (an offshoot by Marlborough, Star, etc.). Great set and it is HEAVY! and a great find - SR 15 Merchant Horse Carriage and Attendant:

2. Alymer Set AB133 Pharoh & Guard Caravan. I didn't unpack full set, so wanted to show the catalog shot. I can never resist the Elephants! Bought this brand new for a song..... a very reasonable song!

3. TD 8 - Afghan Volleys from Trophy with the bonus figure id'd by Martyn as being from AS 12 (he has an earlier catalog than i!!!!!!!)

Al,
you will have to send me a pic, I really like the range, but darn hard to find!

hi Tom: I have the band riding on the camel I bought in Chicago in 2002. It is in my album.

Ya! Good one, I would like to find that one myself. These are out there, usually mislisted on ebay or shoved in stock of older dealers! Just have to be patient.
Tom

Tom,
The pictures are in my album "Oddballs but beautiful"...

Very Cool!

Ok, not that's another one I need! My new quest is the Silk Road.........

Did you see my other question on your white base colonial? I think you and I have half a xmas set. I have the cook, you have the officer. Len made several of these, I have a Civil war version. I think this is an older version?

What do you think? See figure on left in pic (I know this xmas cook is an old version, it came in the lot including TD1:

Tom,
I might be able to help you out on your "Silky quest" in a couple months...I know where 3 SR sets are stored but need only one :)
In regards to an officer with white base, I do not really know... I will need to check around, but it could be part of X-mas set ... A white paint on the base is original and is not covering any other color...

Hi Al,
Ya, I would bet an Xmas set then. My cook as pictured is the same, but he is definitely an earlier Trophy and different from my later ACW set.

Keep me posted on Silk Road! I know where quite a few are, but contact is very spotty!

Tom

Got home late last night, back at work now, I'll post my remaining photos tonight.

I did get to see Andreas on Saturday, vielen, vielen Dank für die superben Bilder, besonders die aus der Ausstellung! I'm with you on the Varus diorama, it's outstanding. The Gandamak diorama is similar in quality. My buddy Dennis Sosna is compiling the sets, and if he ever finishes it, I'll get him to post some pictures.

Again, it was great to see everyone, and George, thanks especially for your support and kind words!

We do have pictures of all of the exhibits, too, and as soon I get the collection of photos, I'll post them for everyone, along with a list of the awards.

Thanks, everyone!

Brad

That is a christmas set cook - the christmas pudding is so obvious, I can smell the brandy......................
