Can anyone explain to me what happen on ebay tonight. I saw 4 K & C light post's at 100 dollars with 9 min left, within 5 minutes they were at 700 dollars, and by the time it was over they went for 900 dollars.... crazy......

Ive got 4 if someone wants them for 900,thats unbelievable..........:D

That seller is one lucky guy. What is the retail price on these?

What was I thinking selling all mine? Should have socked 'em away for retirement ;). Must rethink this 'not raising prices after something's retired' thing.
Don't worry guys, just kidding! :D

Which set was this?! The Nazi ones with the banners? I saw a set of the two SoHK lamp posts and lantern go for $51.33 today. That's all.

It looks like one buyer who wanted it and two other buyers (although mostly one) who just kept bidding it from $100 or so to $898.

The second auction, which ended at $300, betrays a similar pattern.

I have dealt with the seller (a long time collector) and he must happy (that's an undestatement) to say the least.

Something similar happened to me a year or so ago when I sold a Napoleonic Santa for $500, way above what it should go for.

I have two sets mint in the Red/Black box...even if I go list them now...they still wouldn't acheive that. Maybe I should just try and start the bid at $1000, just for fun of course!

I am still puzzled by how little research some people who are bidding on Ebay do. I keep seeing some items still available in retail (even when they are listed as retired - easy to find with Bing/Google) going for way more than their still current retail value. Well I guess it's all goodness for the sellers...

Is the seller the same person who sold the K/C pair of Pharoh statues for that outrageous amount??

I'm pretty sure I know the seller. The purchaser has only 34 e-bay transactions. I have to believe that set is worth nowhere near $900.

I'm the one who sold the SoHK lamp posts for 51 and I thought that was an appropriate price. I would love if they reached 900 but whatever....

Just don't anybody go out thinking that theirs is worth that much.

Even in this economy, there are people to which money is no object and who just want what they want and that's all there it to it.

I agree...yours was a fair price, perhaps even a little under what demand might offer on any other day (you just never know who is watching). But I know when you have your collection "almost" complete, and you have struggled for so long, you will pay far beyond what an item is worth, just because you convince yourself you may not see the item again for a very long time.

I've done this myself a few times...usually when I have, the next week another one comes up on auction and sells for half of what I paid for it. So my suggestion is...if you are looking for a hard to find piece and don't want to pay with your first born (although I know some of you would like to) wait until I buy it; you'll get it cheap the next week.

OMG that is ludicrous, they don't even have a box. I can't believe people like this can so enthusiastic (or is that stupid) over an item!!!

I would like to meet the person who bought those lamp posts for $900. I have a great deal on a bridge in Brooklyn I would like to offer him. -- Snydley Whiplash

I don't think they are as available as you think? If you could provide just one link to a site where they are still availbale I would be interested in buying some?
