A couple of months ago, Ed indicated that he was going to sell off his fabulous toy soldier collection and asked me to arrange a final showing for our Southern California toy soldier club. So, last Saturday, about 18 of us showed up at his house to view it for the last time. In addition, to his toy soldiers, which he almost always displays with backdrops or building, he has a wonderful military art collection, too.

Here are some of the attendees: Bill Connolly, a World War II Eighth Air Force B-17 ball turret gunner and the former owner of the Toy Soldier Exchange in Pasadena talking to Gary Fournier, a Viet Nam USMC veteran who makes models (e.g., Hadrian's Wall, the Alamo, etc.) for TSSD and others; Henry Tremblay, the owner of Brookhurst Hobbies in Garden Grove, California, who is now a King & Country and Britains dealer; Ed, a U.S Army World War II veteran who landed in Normandy on D-Day + 3, sitting among some of displays; some of the attendees enjoying the refreshments; and (L to R) Scott Morlan, retired High School teacher who was one of the founders of the West Coaster Show, Ed, still recovering from recent surgery, and Mark Young, USC Business School professor.

Thanks for the pictures of Ed's collection Mike. I really like the Highlander square with laying, kneeling and standing firing figures. Those figures are my favorite Britain's. John

Me too - thanks Mike for the pictures - and thank Ed too for the inspiration he has been to both me - and many others I'm sure - for the occasional glimpses of his wonderful collection. jb

You're welcome John. It is quite a square, isn't it. My largest square is Imperial Productions Camerons and Royal Navy with about 50 figures; Ed must have that many on each side.

Some of the paintings in Ed's collection. Sorry about the glare from the flash in some of the photos.

Chuck, it is my pleasure to share this you guys. It is beautifully displayed and those backdrops really make it special.

I had the good fortune to visit Ed's home and view his collection when I attended the Westcoaster show about 8 years ago. He and his wife were great hosts. He explained, at that time, that he wanted collectors to see it because one day he would sell it. His collection is amazing and varied from decades of collecting. I hope it goes to those that would truly take care and appreciate all that Ed's built over the years!

My wife and I met Ed at the Westcoaster a few years ago. He asked us to visit his home and collection. We had a very enjoyable afternoon. Ed and Mrs. Ruby were gracious hosts

Some more of Ed's military artwork.

Amazing collection. The artwork was my favorite part.

Is he selling because he's moving? Is he doing it through Old Toy Soldiers?

No, he is not moving. It will not be through Old Toy Soldier Auctions. Although I know how and with whom he plans to sell his collection, he has not authorized me to say anything about it. When he is ready, I will announce it here on this thread for those of you who might be interested.

More paintings and toy soldiers. You may have noticed that Ed also likes American Indian and nautical subjects.
