ACW Artillery Bugle Calls (1 Viewer)

This Union Artillery commander and bugler are recent recruits to my Army of the Potomac and was wondering if any of the ACW guys on here-re-enactors-knew if there were any bugle calls specifically for artillery or was it just assembly/taps etc.?

I have absolutely no idea why a 2nd Corps flagbearer is in this scene but I got him at the same time as the artillerists and thought I would give him the same baptism of fire. Stuck his commander Hancock alongside him just to keep him company.

Around call 13 and 14 the calls get more "useful" for battle. 37 and 38 are really good for your set up.

They might need a call for "officers get outta the way of the recoil." :wink2:

Nice figures Bob. I haven't got either one of the new WB artillery command sets but certainly plan to do so. That 2nd Corps Standard Bearer looks really very nice standing next to Gen Hancock. Plan to eventually get him too and use him similar to what you have done here. Thanks for showing them . . . . All the best . . . . .

Don't know about bugle calls Bob, but do know a good dio scene when I see one. Really nice setup. Maybe The Captain would know, he's an artillery re-enactor. Chris

Bob , I plan to pickup the command set and the 2nd Corps flagbearer this month . I have "envisioned " a similar scene . I like the flarbearer and Hancock close to the action.

I just took a look at this thread... nice images!
Just like the field music of the infantry, the bugler in the mounted services were the field radio or loudspeaker of their day and the troops were taught to recognize the various calls.
There are Light Artillery Bugle Signals and these can be found in the Field Artillery Tactics published by D. Van Nostrand, 192 Broadway New York in 1864. As might be expected some of these were the same as the cavalry.

4.Gallop
5.Halt
6.Forward
7.Head of the column to the right
8. Head of the column to the left

Numbers 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10.11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19.21,22,25,35,36,37,38 & 39 are quite short calls but the others are lengthy and wold take some time to learn...except Dinner call I suppose.

I really like this scene. How did you do the ground work?
Did you make it with grass scatter or was it purchased as a mat?

The ground work is made up of a scalped "rough pasture" mat and my home made concoction of grass/soil/forest litter to disguise the figure bases.

If you want the the exact "recipe" or need to know where to get the ingredients within the UK feel free to PM me.
