Offered here is a series of photographs showing my ACW Union 6-gun artillery battery in action. Its placed on a 5-foot long by 16-inch deep sofa table for the time being. Eventualy my plan is to have a proper dio base made that will fit on top of the current table and which will accomodate all six guns, their crews and supporting figures. This is my Battery B, 4th US Light Artillery . . . the "guns" that supported the Iron Brigade. Wm Britain continues to offer the most historically accurate ACW artillery figures and guns . . . . . Waiting now on the limbers & caissons . . . .

Mike, Very promising beginning to what will be a great looking dio. Like your idea of having it placed atop of a coffee table.

If memory serves, John Gibbon was the original commander of Battery B at the start of the war.

Nice to see you at play Mike with your Britain ACW Artillery Sets and looking forward to it being continued as time goes by.........Joe{bravo}}{bravo}}{bravo}}

Mike, you always have the best Britians ACW dios! I am very excited with the release of the Fredericksburg figures. Do you have any plans on picking some of those up? It would be nice to see some winter artillery and maybe a 30lb Rifle like the couple that were used at that battle.

Well Mike you can never have enough guns! :wink2:^&cool^&cool This is going to look a treat as a dio if your existing ACW terrain base is anything to go by.

Jeff :salute::

Hi Mike, great looking battery ! The size is impressive

I see you have some cavalry support for the artillery .

Question - Did the artillery usually have close support from either infantry or cavalry ?

Thanks
Kirk

Mike,
This looks amazing, I cannot wait to see it when you've finished it to your liking. Even thought I'm not a ACW collector myself, I really enjoy looking at your setups. You always outdo yourself. Bravo!
Josh

Thanks. I don't know how long it will take to get it done . . . . seems these days I tend to take my time doing everything. You are correct . . . at the outbreak of teh Civil War John Gibbon was the Captain of Battery B.

Thanks Joe . . . . Its been awhile since I posted anything and I thought it was time I did.

You are way too kind . . . thanks. For now I think I will pass on the new Fredericksburg figures . . . I am more than content on concentrating on Gettysburg or Brawner's Farm.

Thank you very much Jeff. I always appreciate your kind comments and support.

Thank you Kirk. I put the cavalry figures in this setup because I needed someplace to display them. When threatened to be overrun, artillery units were given close support by the infantry, although I suppose a cavalry detachment could have been used as well. In large battles, such as Gettysburg, artillery and infantry units often fought side-by-side.

Agreed, great to see you posting again Mike, looking forward to seeing this diorama come to life.

Mike, nice display of the "long arm." Especially like the new Moving Up the Guns set. Chris

Great job on the temp dio. I would like to do a small shelf artillery dio myself. I am limited to My space. I would like to see Britain come out with limbers & caissons again. Someone correct Me if I am wrong but I remember seeing in one of My catalogs, from another dealer, a retired limber for the North and South and a artillery piece, caisson and six horse hitch that is retired. This dealer as I remember pieces were new and assured the prices were out of this world. Good Luck and keep up the great work, can not wait to see the final product. Mr Colt 45:):):)

I just found the catalog and yes Wm. Britain did offer a North and South limber set and also a complete artillery piece, caisson and six horse hitch also for the North and South. But again the prices are out of this world. Good Luck: Mr Colt 45:):):)

Hi all,
I thought you might like to see a slight conversion of the Moving up the Guns set I did for Chris. The two figures on the trail are now Corporals, all of the heads have been swapped and touched up and the trousers on one figures re sculpted. When these arrive to Chris he can mix and match these with other gun crews so there is only one Corporal per crew. I photographed this on a new Antietam diorama base I made with flexible corn stalks complete with tassels, hand made snake rail fence and our grass.
As a side note, When I made the original pattern for this gun I photographed and measured one of my good friends original gun and carriage that was used by the 1st Michigan Light Artillery during the war insuring the accuracy.

I hope you enjoy,
