I was able to replace a few long retired sets I had given away because Stan listed them.
I like the way he groups together time periods and manufacturers in his listings.
It never occurred to me that it could be a problem to anyone, and I thought it was nice that the folks here allowed him to list these out of production items.

I'm sorry if I made trouble as I can see the argument both ways and if you want to delete it, please do so

And, no, Mitch, it has nothing to do with advert envy, just an annoyance with what I think should be a collector to collector section.

I'll probably just use ebay in the future, less hassle.

Jazzeum...

No offence, just interjecting some humour, a play on words but nobody got it. As I said the site is big enough for everyone

Well, at the same time this grew hot and heavy, a crisis developed with my son who is at his first day of college (he's quite nervous about going to college), so it definitely went over my head, which is exploding right now, it seems :)

Your ad has gotten 136 views. What is the annoyance? If someone was interested in what you were selling, it doesn't matter what someone else is advertising.

Stan is my #1 "SOURCE" here on the forum for older items. He is a 5 star shipper (important) and very thorough. What would I do without him???

You're missing the point; it's not my ads that I was concerned about but the collectors who are trying to sell things to other collectors. I hadn't really thought about the issue before because what I sell I do on ebay. However, as a would be seller, I saw his ads from a different perspective.

Although there are no written rules about this, it's supposed to be or should be a collector to collector section, not a place where a dealer comes on to sell his wares on a daily basis. As I previously mentioned what if other dealers did that. I'm sure that if Stan uses this on a less frequent basis, I suppose no one would care.

Ordinarily I'd agree with those who say "what's the big deal, just don't read them," and I'd skip over them if I were a buyer. However, I decided to post a few things for sale and with the amount of postings that we're getting from him, it crowds things out.

Sorry, I thought your point was that Stan's ads were crowding you out.

It probably seems that way Ed but I probably got "religion" when I decided to post some things for sale :) and looked at it from the other side.

Brad...if you're gonna get 'religion,' I know a guy you can talk to!

Sorry, couldn't help myself...

Pete,

With the way this day is going, I probably need some or a couple of cold ones. It's been that kind of a day :(

Brad, sorry for your current problems, I certainly hope everything works out with the college issue.

On the ads question I certainly agree, and brought this up a bit eariler. It was not that I minded anyone advertising......it was the number of ads I was

subjected to everytime I hit the New Posts .

I'm sure this dealer is a great guy, and I'm sure the deal he has with Treefrog has more then made up for my business.......but I still believe he should be

reasonable with his ads........or start his own website.

We have a great number of dealers here on the Forum, who on occasion post an ad or two, all of which have helped various collectors fill in a few pieces

that they were missing. I do not ever recall anyone complaining about the number of ads they post.......perhaps because they exercise self control.:)

If I was some of you guys I wouldn't put any thing on ebay as what your selling might be "crowded out".If someone is interested in what you have they will find it I'm sure. Some people just have too much time on their hands.

I've found the ads helpful to find retired items I want to add. In fact I look for announcements from the "dealer" in question.

As a sometime dealer and full time collector( there are alot of us ), I have no problem with his ads. He routinely sells retired or slow moving items at a discount and or hard to find items. I find it useful and an important part of this forum.
How do we decide who is a dealer and who isn't? What difference does it make? This thread is a section where buyers and sellers can have an arms length agreement to conduct business benefiting the site , the dealer and the collector, and this great hobby.

I say more ads the better!

I must say some restraint could be in order from time to time, but I think there is no way to monitor and control that and ultimately the more items for collectors to choose from the better the competition, the better the quality , the better the choices. It is okay with me...my two cents worth...

I don't agree with most of the comments here, which is your prerogative, but I've said my piece and, upon due reflection, it's probably time to pull back from this place to a great extent, except maybe for matters relating to the Spanish Civil War, but other than that, that's probably it.

I understand the feeling!

I think it may have been better to let Stan place his adds as the thread now seems to be completely in the wrong direction and how many will be looking at the add rather than putting their point about censorship of some. Just let sleeping dogs lye as the site is used by 'grown ups' and they can decide easily what they wish to view or not
Mitch

I think the vast majority have spoken about how they feel about these ads and it's time to leave it alone.
