Reports have it that approx 1% of the fires are arson and that most were caused by dry lighting.

I can't say that I like the photos although there are some incredible bits of photography. They had to be shown though and it makes you realise that it will take a long time to recover from the devastation. Some of the bush and animals may never come back but nature has a way of regenerating even after such disasters. The test will be after we get some substantial rain in these areas and whether the trees will start resprouting. I hope all is not lost. Greg.

To put the fires in perspective, the area impacted in Australia is 80 times larger than the 2019 California fires and 10 times the massive Fort McMurray fire of a few years ago in Canada.

I heard Canada is sending another group of fire specialists to OZ. That will bring to number to 95. Most of the people who are going are more senior staff who typically work on large fires. What they’re doing is providing technical advice in terms of how to fight, contain and extinguish these fires.

Another firefighter died today,so sad. Brings the total to 5.27 civilians also I believe. My sincere condolences to their families.

In Memoriam to all the Australian Animals that have died in the fires and a Big Thank You to all the Aussies who have rescued and are caring for those that have survived.

Some pretty serious rain falling in Brisbane at the moment and further south had good rain yesterday. Hopefully enough to finish off remaining fires anywhere.

Long may it last. Just seen some Kiwi vets heading across the ditch to lend a hand, plus a few more firefighters. Amazing to see some US and Canadian specialist firefighters have arrived too!

Australia is just a of land extremes, after weeks of fires the monsoon now brings flash flooding to parts of the East. Had much needed good drenching rain here in South East Qld. That's just OZ.
