I'm shocked actually, pretty amazing what they have done without 2/3rd's of their starting outfield and no closer; the bullpen, much like Baltimores, has pretty much been lights out and Crawford, Ellsbury and Bailey are all due to return shortly, not sure where they'll end up, I just want to be entertained until football starts.

The Angels, after a slow start, have gotten their act together, so the other wild card team will come from the East, not sure if Boston has the horses to get past both Tampa and Baltimore to grab the other slot, we'll see..............
Speaking of teams that have found their footing, the San Fran Giants have really been playing well and have caught and tied the Dodgers for 1st place in the NL West. Lincecum finally pitched like his oldself last night and the rest of the staff is doing well, too. I thought the Dodgers looked like they were going to run away and hide but the Giants kept plugging away and didn't let their slow start bury them. Looks like the wild-card races are going to be pretty hard to call, for both leagues. -- Al

Love the Giants, my adopted NL team for about 25 years or so.................

Crikey! The NYY's lose a won game last night and no one in the AL East can take advantage. They all lost! Some one has a lucky star. -- Al

Last night the Yankees lose and everyone else in the AL East won, they all gained ground.

Funny how that works out.

And who was that tomato can the Yankees threw out there last night; he had two pitches, balls and home runs.

But fear not, Captain Intangibles passed Ripken for most all time hits, so he's got that going for him, which is nice..........................

And I'll say this about Bobby V; he may be a bit of an odd duck, but the man knows his baseball.

He said right away this year something was missing with Youk and his approach to the game and he was right; Middlebrooks is a great young talent and Bobby played him over Youk when he came back off the DL and he was shipped out of town last week. If Francoma was still running the team, he'd have stuck with his buddy Youk instead of doing what was best for the team.

He's also straitened out the bullpen, which was a mess the last couple of years.

Will be interesting to see how he handles things when Crawford and Ellsbury come back.

Just think; the Sox are where they are with a AAA outfield, imagine having those two guys back after the All star break, if not sooner.

I still say it's Angels/Doofin Rays winning the wild card and the MFY's winning the division, but at least things will be interesting around here this Summer...........

Yes, it is odd. The long schedule is the great equalizer, along with injuries. The Sox are in it now, and the O's are beginning to sputter, both offensively and pitching, so I expect the race will continue to go back and forth on a daily basis, as the AL East always seems to. -- Al

And just when you start to think this and so do I, what do they do; go out and lose 2 of 3 to the AAA Mariners.

Granted King Felix was lights out Thursday night (and let's be honest, how much longer before he's in pinstripes.....), but last night they lost 3-2, this after the Seattle starter left in the second inning with an injury and in steps some ham and egger named Charlie Furbush, who is lights out the rest of the way.

Good God; when do the NFL training camps open again??

George my friend, its only July 1st, don't get worked up. I don't allow myself to get too high or too low about the baseball season until September 1st. Despite a rash of injuries and a poor start, your team is only 6-1/2 games back in the division, and 1-1/2 games back of Baltimore for the second wildcard, paying well above .500 ball. Even if this were September 1st, this would not be cause for panic. Enjoy your terrific new third-baseman, what is going to be a tough, exciting and close pennant race, and relax - with the loss of Mariano and the injury to Pettitte, there is almost no chance that the Yankees are going to get past Texas, so your biggest worry should be out of the way.:wink2: On July 28th, my wife, kids and I will be a Yankee Stadium watching our teams face off. Lets see how things look at that point. I suspect we will both be sweating a great AL East race.

Understood and you are correct, it just makes me laugh that between the Bruins and the Celtics playoff runs this Spring and that train wreck finish last year, I haven't paid much attention at all to the Red Sox.

They finally suck me in and what happens; they lose 2 out of 3 to the AAA Mariners.

Quick; other than King Felix and Ichiro, name two other Mariners.

Without using google.

Good luck..................

Jesus Montero - but I only know him because he was a Yankee prospect. Your Sox bounced back today and beat the Mariners, so are only 1/2 game behind Baltimore for the wildcard. See things are already looking up for you.

O's are in a real funk right now, having gone 3-9 in their last 12 games. The All-star game can't get here soon enough. The O's starting pitching is on the verge of total collapse. It's Hammel and Chen and then pray.:rolleyes2: -- Al

And don't forget about the tomato can known as Charlie Furbush.

There's a name for you; Ruth, Gehrig, Mays, Aaron, Mantle..................Furbush.

Charlie Furbush.

Outstanding, they should start working on his Cooperstown bust.

The Nats have made mincemeat of the vaunted SF pitching in the two games of this series, so far. In game 1, they beat Lincecum 9-3 and in game 2 they have beaten Bumgarner 9-4. The Nats have been averaging 8.5 runs per game over their last 8 games (6-2 record). It appears that the long awaited resurgence of the offense is underway as both Zimmerman and Morse are now hitting the ball and Desmond is hot, as well. This resurgence has occurred since Zimm got the cortisone shot in his bad shoulder about 2 weeks ago. Along with the continued excellence of the pitching this new hitting streak has made the Nats a complete and very dangerous team. Now 15 games over .500 with the best record in the NL. I knew the Nats were going to be good, mainly because of the pitching they assembled, but I didn't expect this kind of record. Sure hope they can keep it up. -- Al

Kind of been following this story. Lee has 11 starts, 7 quality, with a team low 3.24 ERA among the starters, and he has exactly ZERO wins. His record is 0-3. Snakebit is right. How do you figure this? Unbelievable.{eek3} -- Al
Cliff Lee finally got his first win of the season today, beating NY 9-2, and is now 1-5 on the year. Maybe this will get him started. He hasn't pitched badly, but seems to be the Phil's elected bad luck pitcher for this year. At any rate, congratulations, even if I am a Nats fan. -- Al

My girlfriend told me last night she won two tickets at a work raffle to the Red Sox/Yankees game tomorrow night, the seats are on the first row of the green monster, comes with a parking pass.

She hates baseball and left the tickets on the kitchen counter with a note saying to go and take one of my friends.

I'd rather go to a hanging.

Just got off the phone with a friend of mine who has a nine year old who loves baseball, I told him to come by tonight and pick up the tickets and take his son to a game on me and my girlfriend.

Not in the mood to watch the Red Sox get shut down by Yactabeybenafuchie or whatever his name is while watching Aroid, captain intangibles, horseface, "The Grandiman" and Swisher (is there a more annoying player in the game than him?) hit bullets all over Fenway off of Beckett.

I actually hope the MFYs sweep the Red Sox and put them out of their misery this year, coming of a brutal West Coast trip where they lost 5 of 7 including a sweep to the AAA Mariners and AAA A's and naturally, Crisp, Reddick and Moss, all ex Red Sox, killed them in Oakland, while Middlebrooks blows out his hamstring after the Youkilis trade and is now on the DL.

Baseball fever; catch it........

The O's finally have had enough and have blown up their starting rotation. They have sent their 3-4-5 starters to the minors. The trio had 47 starts and were only 11-23, with ERAs of 5.42, 6.11, and 6.13. What a disaster they were. One of their call-ups to replace the three, Chris Tillman, has been on the up and down rollercoaster from the minors for 3 years, but his first major league start of the season the other night, he threw a great game and got a win. Hope he has learned some consistency and can help, long term. I think the O's will be big players before the trading deadline, as rumors down here are mentioning Greinke as a trade possibility. We'll see. The O's sure need starting pitching help from somewhere. -- Al

Everyone!!! George cannot come out and play anymore tonight....he has toy soldiers to sell and this Baseball gig is keeping him from it!!
Where are my KP's George??{sm4}

NOW PLAY BALL...

My friends son called me this morning to thank me for the tickets, nice of the kid to do so considering I probably scarred him for life by subjecting him to that crap.

Horseface was the hero last night ripping a go ahead two run triple, then he scored when Ibanez, the most handsome man in baseball, ripped a double and Soriano, the guy who stepped in after Fruitbat blew out his knee came in and was natually lights out.

He'll probably be lights out for the next 15 years as well, picking up where Fruitbat left off.

At least the kid got to see Aroid get drilled, so he's got that going for him, which is nice.

George, I live for your baseball posts. After reading a post full of the nicknames you bestow on these guys, I laugh for the rest of the day. This stuff is priceless.^&grin^&grin^&grin And you are right, last night's game was a horror. Even though the Yanks won, it was painful to watch if one appreciates good pitching. Jeesh! -- Al

Al,
I'm glad you appreciate my posts and the humor angle I take; you and I both you know can't take any of this stuff seriously, it's sports, not life and death, although to some it is, which is pretty comical if you really think about it.

The older I get, the more humor I find in all of it and the less seriously I take it.

The nicknames are all a part of it, they are all such easy targets.
