Now the report is he died on Saturday, so forget it Yankee fans, sit on your hands all night like you did last night and you can stay on your couch tonight Louis, watching the game with your lucky pinestriped underwear on with the trap door in the back for emergencies, like oh, say when the corpse of Raul Ibanez hits the game winning/series winning home run tonight....................

Girardi has dropped Arod in the lineup, from third to fifth so Raul -- So Cool -- Ibanez will be coming off the bench.

My gut tells me the Yankees won't win tonight. Oh, wait, my stomach is reacting to lunch. Time for a tums {eek3}

Like dropping that stiff two spots in the line up will matter; that said, he'll go 3-4 tonight with 5 RBI's.

The good news for Yankee fans is they are on the hook for him to the tune of 5/112, which means in years 4 and 5 he'll win back to back MVP awards because that's what over the hill players do in New York.

It's more like $117 million but when your contract is $275 million, what's an extra five?

Since he came off the PED's, he's been God awful; can you imagine how bad he'll be FIVE years from now?

The Nats managed to win another close one, 2-1, with a walk-off homer by Werth. For the first time in the series the Nats pitching showed up and showed what they are capable of. The starter, Detwiler, came up big yielding just 1 unearned run in 6 innings, and 3 relief pitchers gave up no hits over the final 3 innings, striking out 8 of the 9 outs. Nats have to find a way to hit though, as they only had 3 hits the whole game. Fortunately, 2 of them were Hr's. Game 5 tomorrow for all the marbles. It has been a great playoff series for all the teams involved. MLB hit the jackpot so far this post-season. -- Al

I was driving home tonight and, courtesy of XM radio, was listening to the Washington broadcast of the game. What a great at bat by Werth! The broadcast crew was talking about a similar occasion when he hit a HR and wouldn't it be great if he could do it again. No sooner was the words out of his mouth when BAM!

Yes, MLB has had some great moments so far and we're just in the divisional round.

It was a fantastic at bat by a true professional. The Hr came on pitch #13, and it was a no doubter when it left the bat. -- Al

O's hanging in after 6 at 1-1. Got an excellent start from Saunders, once again. Two high pressure elimination starts in a week, 5.2 innings each time and 1 run allowed each time. Nice job, Joe. Now to see if the bullpen can win it for the O's. -- Al

Looks like As are done. Who would have thought they would have gotten even this far.

Wow!!! what a series, Orioles win in 13!! to bad it's not a 7 game series for the O's and Yanks this has just been **n to watch, but alas it comes down to one game on Friday, it's ironic that both teams are in a dead heat versus one another 11 wins a piece including playoffs, my O's have been seemingly chasing the Yanks all season long and now just hoping we have just one more win in the tank against the evil yanks on Friday, let's go O's!!!!!!!!...Sammy

Sammy, it has been a great series. I see the O's will be starting Hammel tonight, which makes me wonder what has happened to Tillman, their best pitcher in the second half. I'm sure he will be more than ready to pitch, like everyone else, but why hasn't he made an appearence yet? I just find it curious. The O's slipped off their 1-run/extra inning win formula a bit in game 3 but sure found it again in game 4. The O's are now 31-10 in 1-run games and 17-3 in OT. All 3 OT loses have been to NY, just to emphasize how close these teams have played each other. What a great win for them and especially the pitching staff. Saunders was outstanding and the bullpen was even better. Johnson is doing a great impression of a yo-yo, lose, save, blown save, save, so we need him to break that pattern tonight when he comes in to nail it down, and I'm sure he will. Boy, this has been **n. Kind of like playing with the house money, since no one expected the O's would be where they are. The pressure is on the Yanks and all bets are off. Go O's! -- Al

Hi Sammy, AL
Never thought the series would get down to the last game! A one game series now. To quote the inimitable Chuck Thompson "Ain't the beer cold!" ^&grin Go Os!

Hi Chris. Careful, quoting Chuck will give away how many decades you go back. I have to admit that I remember Moe Drabowski in 66. Time for the O's glory to return. Beat the Yanks, Tigers, and it's WS time again. ^&grin -- Al

It's all down to 1 game for the Nats. Been a great season for them, regardless of how it turns out, though getting to the WS would be the dream come true. It has been a tough series with the Cards, who have the vets with the playoff experience that the Nats lack. Cards have held the Nats hitting in check and beat up on most of the Nats pitchers. Thanks to the symetry of baseball, the Nats have lost 2 games by 8 runs, but won 2 games by 1 run, which is all it takes to stay in the game. The Nats have been outscored 23-9 in the 4 games but here they are with a chance to take the series. The trend kind of reminds me of the 1960 WS when the NYY's greatly outscored the Pirates 46-17 through 6 games. The series was 3-3 because the Pirates won the 3 close, low scoring games (combined runs, 14-8), while the Yankees won the 3 high scoring routs (combined runs, 38-3). Quite a contrast, but all those runs still only got the Yanks a 3-3 split and a trip to the winner-take-all game 7, where the Yanks couldn't shake the Pirates and Maz made them pay with a walk-off Hr for a Pirates WS win. Sure is similar to the Nats in this series. Now, all I need is for the script to play out the same. The Nats ace, Gonzalez, is going for us against Wainwright, so it should play out to be close, where I like the Nats chances. GO NATS!^&grin -- Al

I found last night's game tedious as the hitting was so inept. It's not just a question of good pitching stopping good hitting but in this series a question of good pitching stopping terrible hitting. Let's hope it's a bit more lively tonight.

This game gets back to what I've been saying for awhile: can the Os get over the hump. The Yankees have let them get close but the Os have never been able to pass them. In the last month or so we've seen this happen repeatedly. We've seen this happen in this series as well -- they can't get ahead of them. There is nothing that makes me think this will change, that the Os will beat the Yanks.

A's did an incredible job, just as unbelieveable as the O's. It was the A's great misfortune to have to face the best pitcher in baseball, at the peak of his game, in the winner-take-all finale. Verlander will be a major problem for Tigers next opponent, O's or NYY's. -- Al

Agreed. There was nothing they could have done. However, since he pitched last night, this may benefit the Os or the Yanks.

I have a lot of optimism for this game. Obviously, an Oriole win by many runs would be preferable, but I don't think realistic. I do think a close game is winnable for the O's, given their track record this year. While it is true that the O's are having a hard time getting over the hump, it is equally true that the Yanks can't shake the O's. The game is a toss-up if it is close. I am also hoping that the Yanks recent string of failures in winner-take-all games continues. -- Al

I think this is an important game for the Os but not just for this year but for the **ture. If they can't beat the Yanks, they might have the same bugaboo next year. On the other hand, it could be incentive. I remember in 1985 the Mets had the same problem with the Cards and lost the Division to them by one or two games. Next year, Davey set the tone: "we don't just want to win, we want to dominate," and dominate they did, particularly the Cards. They went into St. Louis in April and swept them and that was basically the end of the pennant race.

It is very important, but I have the feeling it is more isolated to this season. My opinion is that the O's have trapped lightning in a bottle this season. Many things have fallen into place with all the close wins, extra inning wins, excellent hitting, and especially the excellent bullpen. The hitting and bullpen should carry over, the other stuff is problematic. The real problem is the lack of a fixed rotation. The O's have survived without a #1 starter, a starter than can be a stopper, or anyone who can eat innings. All are important for a team to be a consistent winner. All must be fixed in the off-season. I am thrilled that the O's have done this well, this season, but I am a little leary that the success can be repeated without a major improvement in the starting staff, even if it is just to solidify around 2 or 3 of the pitchers thay now have. Put simply, pitching wins championships, especially starting pitching. -- Al
