Just finished watching one of the ugliest losses by the O's that I can remember in a long time. O's led 5-2 going into the bottom of the 9th in Toronto. Brought in their closer, Johnson, who promptly blew his 4th save in his last 5 attempts and the game with it, giving up 4 runs on 4 hits. Final score was 6-5, Jays. UGLY, and a back breaker. Johnson has just lost focus and is going through a real rough patch. Enough to make me barf. -- Al

Wait a minute; the Orioles LOST a one run game? That's not possible, that goes against the "Orioles win all one run and extra inning games" script, I'll notify the commissioner and get this wrong righted asap..................

Yeah, they lost it and how. By the way, your Sox did the exact same thing to the Indians today, scoring 4 in the bottom of the 9th, to win 6-5. Wild day, but a bad one for closers.:wink2: -- Al

Sox and Yanks tied for first as fatso lost again today to the Doofin Rays, 8-3; he stinks this year and the Yankees are still in first place, go figure, what former tomato can that they rescued off the scrap heap is carrying fatso's load this year?

How many home runs do Wells, Hafner and the rest of the corpses signed by the Yankees have this year so far, 40?

I saw the Grandyman shattered his pinky finger, maybe they can sign Reggie Jackson out of retirement, even at 62 he'd hit 40 home runs down there in Williamsport East..................

your behind in the headlines George, not only have my Orioles lost a few 1 run games lately but have blown four 9th innning games:mad::mad: when we were ahead!!! not sure what Johnson's problem is but hope it gets fixed and fast or at least give another closer more responsability, as tight as this race is right now to lose 4 games in the 9th is going to come back and bite us in the arse later on...Sammy

Good thing the O's are scoring so many runs. With their pitching, they need to. Lord help us if the hitters slump... -- Al

Boston back on top in the AL East. Toronto is starting to round into shape, so it looks like the East will end up being a 5 team shoot-out after all. I still think the fine seasons being had by NY and Boston are the surprise, so far. Kind of looks like the AL East and the NL West are going to remain interesting from top to bottom all year. And keep an eye on the Angels as they have caught fire in the AL West. -- Al

A great comeback for the O's tonite, down 6-2 in the 7th come back and win 9-6!!!! C. Davis keeps his pace up all year he maybe in the running for MVP, absoultely killing it right now, 19 homers and still 2 games left in May to be played :) and Manny Machado is quietly becoming one of the best Orioles prospects to come up through the system in sometime, solid hitter, baserunner, defender, and only 22 years old{eek3} now let's just hope the pitchers can get thier act together and we'll be fine...Sammy

Quite an impressive win for the O's, especially considering that they beat up the Nat's best pitcher, Jordan Zimmermann, who had been having a tremendous year. Davis is a beast and certainly is in the running for MVP. Like the way Markakis has been coming on and Machado should be receiving a lot more attention from the press than he is getting. Agree with you Sammy, about the pitching. It has been a season long worry and it is not getting much better. But that hitting can hide some weakness. -- Al

Put it in the books! Mets sweep Yanks in Subway Series!

That's right Yankee fans, SUCK IT! ^&grin ^&cool {eek3} ^&cool

Baseball, you gotta love it and it's idiosyncrasies. If I had to bet money on the way a certain game would go, I would have bet that the 2-0 game between the O's and Nats that took place tonight, would have been last night's score and that the 9-6 score last night would have been tonight's score. Last night the Nat's best pitcher went against the O's best, a seeming advantage to the Nats. But no, home runs everywhere, both starters knocked out and the O's win a 9-6 slugfest. Now tonight the O's send 92 year old #5 starter Freddy Garcia (1-2 record) against the Nat's #5 starter, the inconsistent Dan Haren (4-5 record, 5+ ERA). I figured a high scoring shootout. Naturally it was a pitcher's duel, both starters hurling zero's. O's won 2-0, with Garcia going 8 for the win. It's a funny game sometimes.:rolleyes2: -- Al

An impressive job by the Mets. It also has the great advantage of helping the O's.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Thanks Al. Although this was enjoyable and somewhat improbable, this Yankee team is not that good. I think Girardi has done a heck of a job but they need their regulars back. Having Texeira and Youkilis back should help a lot.

Mets are not a good team and are having a dreary season but this might help things a little and, what the heck, it could be the highlight of the season.

The Nats are starting to try my patience. 54 games into the season and they are only playing .500 ball. They can't get out of their own way. Everyone here is saying what a good team they are and if only this or only that had happened or would happen they would win it all. Well, DUH! That's true for practically any team. Last year, it all lined up for the Nats, this year has been different. Last year's magic is missing from the hitting, fielding, and to some extent, the bullpen. Only the starting pitching is keeping them in it. Someone needs to light a fire, take charge, and lead this team. They just float from game to game with no real elan. They talk about 'Natitude', but only Harper seems to exhibit much of it, and he is getting beat up and missing games because of his unbridled enthusiasm. He needs help. I think the fans are going to have to accept that this team is not playing up to last year's team and may not be able to, regardless of the expectations. Pitching is the most important ingredient for a winning team, but hitting and fielding have to be present in a least moderate form. The personal are capable, but for whatever reason, they are not playing up to their potential. -- Al

What a sway of emotions:) I was driving across town this afternoon and getting updates on the O's vs. Tigers and my I-phone sends me a text whenever someone scores, anyway the Orioles were losing in the 9th 5-4 then I picked the phone up and it showed final Tigers 5 Orioles 4....oh well, maybe tommorow:(...about 5 minutes later my phone sends me a text Orioles 7- Tigers- 5{eek3}{eek3}...so not sure what happened but glad it was wrong on the first update:)...Sammy

Sammy, it was a very exciting finish to a well played game. Markakis led off the inning with a Hr to make the score 5-4, Tigers. Jones and Davis then got on and Dickerson then hit the game-winning Hr with two out. A typical day at the office in O's town.:wink2:^&cool -- Al

More musings. I love the long season and the symmetry/balance that it results in. The Nats are 28-28, super average. In their 28 wins, they have scored 150 runs. In their 28 losses, they have given up 150 runs. The magic number for the Nats, run wise, seems to be 3. If they score 3 or more runs, they win. If they score less than 3, they lose. The number 3 has given them 24 wins and 23 losses. Pretty symmetrical. Amazing how that works out. If the Nats could have pushed that magic number to 4, either way, their overall record would be 34-22, good for 1st place. If the Nats are going to contend, they MUST find that extra run over the last 106 games. It is going to be tough with Harper and Werth hurt, and fully a third of the current daily line-up batting under .200 and another third hitting under .250. Still a lot of games to go, but it is no longer early. Time to step up and perform. -- Al

Interesting stats Al. Funny how things form a pattern sometimes. I'm a long time Braves fan so I hope the Nats don't get it together this year. I do think the Braves will take the division this year, but that may just be wishful thinking. :)

Duke, if the Nats don't shake their injury bug and find some fire somewhere, I don't think the Braves have much to worry about. We can't hit a lick, either.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Just I thought the Angels were getting their act together, they get swept by Houston. Go figure. Was also rooting to see Jeremy Bonderman make a good return to the majors as he was starting for Seattle today (first game since 2010), but he got pounded and lost to the Twins. I guess just getting back to the majors is victory enough in this case. -- Al
