Baseball 2013 (3 Viewers)

Al/Brad/George/Sammy et al.:

With the season officially over now I just wanted to extend a big thanks for making this thread so enjoyable and allowing me to be a part of it. I love toy soldiers (obviously) but I do have other interests, sports being among them. The banter and discussions on here were lively and fervent but not at all over the top. Above all else it was about the game and at the end of the day, whether you were a Sox fan or a Yankees/Mets fan or a Nats Fan or an O’s fan we all had the love of baseball in common and it showed.

Thanks again and I am already looking forward to the 2014 version of this same thread!

Best,
Jason

That's a great post, this was a lot of fun all year long, we've got some passionate baseball fans here who love their teams.

Baseball is a special sport, something the majority of Americans played as kids either in organized leagues or on the sandlot, it's a kids game afterall.

We'll see how 2014 shakes out................

Al,

You started the 2013 thread 51 weeks ago. So, "how about" (as Mel Allen might say) you start the 2014 one in a few days.

Brad
Brad, I'll be thrilled to kick off a 2014 thread, as soon as I recover from my post-WS slump and the hot stove league fires up. Most recent news is that Matt Williams is officially the Nats new manager and I note that the Mets intend to buy out Santana's option. We'll see where that goes. And the TV ratings for the WS was up 17% over 2012. It was a pretty good year for America's Pastime. :salute:: -- Al

My last post in the 2013 baseball thread.

This championship was very, very special.

The Red Sox are woven into the fabric of New England, they are not just the Boston Red Sox, they are the New England Red Sox, fans from RI, MA, NH, ME and VT are Red Sox fans.

Half the state of CT is too (the good half, the other half roots for The Evil Empire).

Baseball is truly America's pastime, passed down from Parents and Grandparents to their children and grandchildren, in that way it's a sport like no other.

There are a ton of transplanted New Englanders who live around the country, quite a few live in California and Florida, A's, Angels and Rays games are more like games at Fenway.

The term Red Sox Nation rings true; other teams have tried to steal the Nation theme, but it's a Red Sox theme, end of story.

2004 excersized so many demons for people, wiped away Pesky held the ball, Lomborg on two days rest, the non interference call on Ed Armbrister, Bucky @#$%ing Dent, Bill Buckner and Grady Little all in one shot.

In 2007, they were far and away the best team in baseball that year and won going away.

2013 came out of the blue, totally unexpected, wiped away the pain of the Boston Marathon bombing and brought the city and the region together to cheer on the Sox, so glad they won the WS at Fenway, first time since 1918.

Whatever happens with the Boston Red Sox the rest of my life is gravy, as a fan I am all full up.

I am so happy for the players that they won this thing, they won it for themselves as much as they won it for the city.

Boston Red Sox, 2013 World Series Champions.

Fear the Beards.

BOSTON STRONG.

I think George’s post shows why Red Sox nation is so strong. It is made up of fans who savor their victories and they see these World Series titles as something that is earned not given.

The marathon bombings allowed Bostonians to show their perseverance. After all of that, the Sox simply rewarded the city with what it so richly deserved, a championship.

I don't think all of Massachusetts is Red Sox country. When I was up at law school in Springfield in the late 70s, there were quite a few Yankee fans there.

Fantastic result and richly deserved. Have followed the RS for a number of years now and managed to catch a home game when visiting Boston back in July 2011 and absolutely loved it. Still wear the RS cap and have a couple of cool tee shirts to match.

I'm a softball player at heart, having played it for years, (BB has only been recently introduced here), but enjoy watching BB just as much.

Boston Strong!^&grin

A bit of R.I. and much of Conn. ( transplanted and commuting New Yorkers ) is Yankee country..Michael

Sssssssshh Tom you'll get me shot mate^&grin.....was never too flash with the flat bat, but was handy with a bit of spin on the ball.

Ended up being dropped off at little league, with me brother one Saturday morning to get us from 'under foot' and discovered I was quite good bashing balls under the diamond and didn't have a bad arm on me either. Played 9x fantastic summer seasons for the same, team with the same awesome guys, before discovering females and surfing.....ohh to be a young-fella again^&grin
