Baseball 2013 (2 Viewers)

A lot of it's reputational, or used to be. He's not undeserving (won it three out of the last four years) but the experts seem to think there were other candidates.

I read that the SABR Defensive Index accounts for approximately 25 to 30 percent of the voting this year for gold glove winners.

Being as old as I am, I get all confused by that fancy new SABRmetric voodoo. All I need to know is if the man can get to the gap to cut off the ball and then make the throw on target.^&grin -- Al

Game 5 underway and already Super O has another hit and RBI. Why is St. Louis continuing to pitch to him? -- Al
It seems the Cards have learned their lesson, but it also appears to be too late. They have walked Ortiz 3 times in 4 innings but it is now a bankrupt strategy as they trail 6-0 and the Sox have just about put this WS away. Congratulations to Boston. The celebration on their home field after waiting since 1918 for a home field celebration is going to be fun to watch. -- Al

I thought this game might be a blowout and guess I wasn't wrong. Well, I will have to tape the rest as I have to get up at 330am. Night all.

They walked the man 4 times and they still will lose. 3 outs to go. George, your boys have done it. Glad for you and the city. ^&cool -- Al

Thanks Al, I appreciate it, what a game, what a series, what a season.

What a team.

Ended up going to the game, got two bleacher seats for 400.00, best 400.00 I've ever spent, was sitting about ten rows up from where Drew's home run landed.

Just incredible.

Just got up and getting ready to go to the airport and watched some of the highlights.

Congrats George, Boston and Red Sox nation. Must be a magical ride after the end of 2011 and last year. Enjoy it because the business of baseball starts back in a couple of weeks.

That certainly was $400 well spent. How does it get better for a Sox fan? You got to see something that hadn't happened in Boston in 95 years. Now that is what I call a memory you can cherish. From the disaster of 2012 to the pinnacle of the MLB world a year later. Don't know if it has happened before but this whole season has been a most impressive accomplishment. Enjoy it to the fullest, George. It has been a fantastic ride for Boston.:salute:: -- Al

Thanks Brad, this is pretty special for sure.

2011 was brutal, 2012 was frustrating as it gets; this was special.

This team goes to #2 for me on the all time favorite list, #1 is the 2004 team (naturally).

I'll be missing the parade on Saturday as I'm heading to Hackensack, but that's what DVR's are for.

Congrats to the Bosox, they played solid ball all year long and won the big series all throughout the year, at least my O's lost out to the world champs:)...Sammy

And a special shout out to Magic Johnson, who was kind enough to take the corpse of Josh Beckett, the overpaid stiff Carl Crawford and the whiny Adrian Gonzalez off the Red Sox hands, freeing up a ton of money and allowing management to go sign Gomes, Napoli, Drew, Victorino, Tazawa and Uehara.

Thanks Magic, he should get a ring as well........:salute:::salute:::salute:::salute::

Congratulations to the Red Sox and the fans and the City of Boston....Well done :salute:: ....maybe the NY Yankees need to start growing beards{sm4}

Congrats George! This is a great win for you, the city of Boston and the game of baseball.

Thanks a million, been a fun ride, being there was surreal to say the least, just incredible, will never forget a second of it.........

Al/Brad/George/Sammy et al.:

With the season officially over now I just wanted to extend a big thanks for making this thread so enjoyable and allowing me to be a part of it. I love toy soldiers (obviously) but I do have other interests, sports being among them. The banter and discussions on here were lively and fervent but not at all over the top. Above all else it was about the game and at the end of the day, whether you were a Sox fan or a Yankees/Mets fan or a Nats Fan or an O’s fan we all had the love of baseball in common and it showed.

Thanks again and I am already looking forward to the 2014 version of this same thread!

Best,
Jason

It was a very enjoyable season and an equally enjoyable thread. Everybody on here was a pleasure to converse with and I want to thank all for putting up with my many overlong ramblings. Now, when exactly does Spring Training start?{eek3}^&grin -- Al

Al,

You started the 2013 thread 51 weeks ago. So, "how about" (as Mel Allen might say) you start the 2014 one in a few days.

Brad
