Nats continue their plunge to irrelevance having been swept by Detroit. Scored a total of 2 runs in the 2 game set. Now are 52-56. They have scored 1 or fewer runs in 30 games this year. Just unreal for a lineup like theirs appeared to be at the start of the year. -- Al

I thought after they won the back end of the DH against the Mets they might have turned it around.

Not sure if I'm jumping the perverbial shark tank yet for my O's but after we swept Texas to start out after the All Star break:):) we then go on lose 3 of 4 from the Royals^&confuse^&confuse.. lose 2 of 3 to Boston at home:mad: then we got lucky last nite on 3 hits and win against those mighty Houston team:redface2:, oh which last time I checked were whipping our *** 9-0!!!{eek3}...sooooo not sure if we are just playing bad ball at the wrong time or what, but 5 back (at the moment) and just doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency or something?? hoping I'm wrong but just not feeling very good about the team right now, still 2 full months left but they have got to win some series vs. good or bad teams, help me out here Al, am I being a worry wart?? or ar do you see a bad pattern as I do??...Sammy

Well, they sure haven't played too well since the break and I don't know why. Nothing seems in sync right now. Maybe it's just one of those stretches which they will play their way out of in a few games. It's just a bad time to slump with Tampa, Boston, and Cleveland all playing great ball. We should just press the reset button after tonight's disgrace and go from there. -- Al

Brad, it's not going to happen for the Nats this season. They're DOA. They have had several "turn-around wins" this season that all ended up wasted as the Nats can't get any momentum. It's one step forward and two steps back, all season long. Like I said earlier, they are going to be lucky to finish .500. -- Al

Meanwhile, in the NL, the Nats have started with 2 straight shutout wins. It only got down to 40 by the end of the game in DC, a hot-house by comparison to NY. -- Al
Went back and found this post done on April 3, 2 games into the season. Sad to say but it now appears this was the highpoint of the Nat's season.:rolleyes2:{sm2} -- Al

Angels continue to "bleep." Swept by the Rangers on a walk off HR. I really think it's time to change managers. All the money they spent on Hamilton they should have spent on Greinke

The Red Sox won another walk off extra inning game last night, back into first by one half game.

IF this team can hang on to a playoff spot and make some noise in the playoffs, they will be the biggest surprise since the 1975 Red Sox, a team nobody had on their radar and they took the big red machine to 7 games in the world series..............

Tonight the Red Sox could do nothing vs King Felix and the Mariners through 8, down 7-2.

Well all of that changed in the bottom of the 9th; 6 runs later, Red Sox with another walk off win, 8-7.

Their 11th walk off win this year, most so far in MLB............

You have to feel a little sorry for King Felix with the gem he pitched.

Gotta hand it to the Sox and the Pirates. Both the biggest positive surprises of the season. -- Al

Good call. I think you also have to throw Oakland into that mix as well. Like the Pirates they are winning on a Mid 60 million dollar budget. They are not getting as much press because they seem to consistently contend despite being a small market team.

Woohoo! O's actually managed to gain a game on the red hot Rays and Sox. And Davis bashed #40.^&grin -- Al

Looks to me like NYY's pitching ace CC Sabathia has problems, probably related to age/workload. He is not real old, only 33, but has started 406 games in his career, with over 2700 IP's, and 2400+ K's. He also has averaged 97 pitches in each start. That's a lot of throwing. His record this season seems to reflect a general wearing down. His ERA has gone up each month, 3.35 in April, 4.14 in May, 5.11 in June, and 6.60 in July, to it's present 4.78, coupled with a 9-10 season record. The problem has been especially bad over his last 7 starts, where his record is 0-4 and the team's record is 1-6. In his last 5 starts, encompassing 28.2 IP's, he has allowed 44 hits, 10 BB's, and 25 Earned Runs. Obviously, there has to be a reason, and if he isn't hurt, it is probably fatigue. Whatever the reason, CC is the one cog in the starting rotation that the NYY's cannot do without (all apologies to Kuroda). NY has got to be concerned. -- Al

After the Red Sox won their second WS title in four years in 2007, then they and the Rays met in the 2008 ALCS, the Yankees open the vault and signed Sherman Klump and Burnett to mega contracts and presto, they won a WS title in 2009.

They haven't been back to the WS since and CC is on the back end of that 7 year, 161 million dollar deal, the next two years aren't going to be pretty because as you've stated, he's pitched a **** ton of innings in his career.

Not only are the Indians playing well, but so are the Royals, you've got 5 teams now fighting for two wild card spots, the last two months of the season are going to be interesting............
