Not only are the Indians playing well, but so are the Royals, you've got 5 teams now fighting for two wild card spots, the last two months of the season are going to be interesting............
Good point. The AL is a dogfight for the WC. 4 teams within a half game of each other for those 2 spots and NY and KC hanging in as well. Since the break, Cleveland is 10-5 and KC an even more impressive 12-3. Don't know how KC is doing it. The NL WC race is clearer, at the moment, with the Cards and Reds in good shape. Only Arizona is as close as 4.5 games to the last spot. Should provide some good entertainment. -- Al

I still have lots of faith in the O's, it is far from over.
I also like the O's chances. The starting pitching has rounded into good shape for the run to the playoffs. When Hammel comes off the DL, the O's will have 6 legitimate starters to choose from. Tillman, Gonzalez, and Chen are a very good top 3, with Hammel, Norris, and Feldman also in the rotation mix. Don't know who goes where when Hammel comes back, as a 6 man rotation is a bit much. :wink2: I just hope that Davis and Jones can stay hot and continue their Hr and RBI tears. -- Al

7 games out and fading fast:mad: my O's have made this second half a tough one to watch after sweeping Texas, looking like the 4-5 team AL East race now looks to be a 2 horse race for the Sox/Rays,..I can't keep saying lots of ball left because once you start getting down 6-7-8 games there's not alot of time to make that up, hmm...wild card hopes I guess...Sammy

Sammy:

I just checked the schedule and you are right. It is going to be a tough road to win the division, lots of tough match-ups especially near the end of the month. I am with you on the wild card hopes.

With all that said I really like the way their team has come together and they are built for a great future, I see them competing for years to come.

BTW, what a catch by Chen today, I think it made web-gems on ESPN.

Well about 120 games down, 40 or so to go, 3/4th's of the season is in the books, it's a two team race right now in the AL East, all three divisions are competitive right now, 8 teams battling for 5 spots, the last 1/4th of the season is going to be fun.

As a Red Sox fan, that's all I can ask, I had them penciled in for last place this year, looks like I was dead wrong.

Warrior-

You couldn't be more right! It has been a great season so far and the last quarter should be just as spectacular. With that kind of year there can be no doubt that the playoffs will also be unforgettable.

As far as Boston is concerned, I can't help but root for them. Besides their great play, David Ortiz is the best designated hitter to ever play the game and has the personality to match. And finally, thier history and stadium are the stuff that baseball fans like myself can't get enough of.

I have to give the current ownership credit as there was some rumblings several years ago about a new ballpark; instead, they've made massive upgrades to the old one, new seats up on the green monster and over the right field grandstand, both of those locations are now great seats.

It's a terrific ballpark, not to mention as I sit there watching a game, I can look around and say "There's where Fisk's home run went out in the 75 WS, there's where Fred Lynn crashed into the center field wall in the 75 WS, there's were Evans made the one of the greatest catches in baseball history in the 75 WS, there's where Ortiz's home run went out in the 2004 ALCS", etc, etc, just so much history.

Then again, I can look and say "There's where Bucky @#$#%ing Dent's home run went out in the 78 playoff game".......:rolleyes2:....................the Red Sox and SF Giants are my two favorite teams, looking forward to when they play each other later this month...................

Finally the Jays won a game. I've been a Blue Jays fan since the 70s and this has been the most disappointing season ever.:(

It don't matter gents. The red hot Atlanta Braves, having just won their tenth in a row, against worthy opponents, sometimes in extra innings, are going to roar through the rest of the season and win the World Series without too much of a struggle - in my humble opinion!

To borrow a dorky phrase: Braves Rule!

Braves are hotter than a just used M-14 on full auto. They have made the NL East race into a bad joke. -- Al

I know how you feel. DC had huge hopes for the Nationals this season, too. This season has been a disaster and a huge disappointment for a team with WS hopes. -- Al

Well Alex R. gets the 200+ games on the suspended list, can't even figure why the coach would even bother playing him tonite?? he may play a week or two until the case is upheld but why try and create another circus for a team already falling apart?...Sammy

I like the analogy Al! But of course hot as the Braves are now, we all know how the winds can change.

Nevertheless I will say this Braves team seems more balanced than others of recent glory. These boys can hit! And the pitching is pretty good too. But yet no huge superstars, really.

We will see how it goes. Streaks can go both ways.

His case is not likely to be decided until after the season is over so it's not really much of a circus. Moreover, the Yankees have very little offense and Arod is better than anything they currently have.

Sammy/Brad:

Any word on what kind of reception the fans gave him during his first at bat?

I haven't caught any high lights yet but I'm sure the Chicago fans weren't to warm and fuzzy, I do know the yanks were getting killed last score check...sammy

Booing him but Yankee fans in attendance seemed to be on his side.

i wouldn't be surprised if they finish under .500 this season. Jeter is back on the DL. It's been a nightmare year for him. No Texeira. Granderson is just getting back. Sabbathia is looking terrible. Their first really down year in more than 20 years.

Thanks for the update, I will try and catch the highlights on the late Sportscenter. I didn't think his return was going to have much of an impact on the game, he has been in a deep decline before all of this.

Brad:

The few Yankee games that I have seen this year were not much to watch. They seem to lack any intensity. I guess you can chalk part of that up too the injuries, but some of it comes down to coaching etc.

On A-Rod, I think his return to Yankee stadium will be the most interesting. After-all, the Bay Area never stopped loving Bonds, even to this day when I go to a game and he shows up in the stands the crowd gives him an ovation.

If he is fit, the Yanks must play him or get involved in a lawsuit that they were in cahoots with MLB to get out from paying him. Michael
