Baseball 2013 (1 Viewer)

Brad/Al:

Yup, the Yanks are down and need to rebuild a little. I am not a huge Yankee fan but I respect the fact that they rebuild faster than any other franchise in MLB so as Al pointed out the rest of the teams in the AL and the AL east should have a better chance than usual. It is nice to see the Orioles make some huge strides and it is really nice to see Boston giving their fans a real contender for the World Series. The whole thing is actually great for baseball.

Every team gets old. They've had an incredible run of 20 years. Most teams get five years if they're lucky. Now, it's time to rebuild. Dynasties can fall apart quickly when it starts to go south.

Braves have been competitive for 20 years, and are having a very good 2013. They are an entirely different team now than they were really even 5 years ago. If the farm system is strong a team should always have new blood coming up. The Yankees have very little home grown talent these days, really, don't they? Did they sacrifice the now/future for the present one too many times, maybe?

Waffle House:The Secret of the Braves' Winning Streak: (Waffle Ball)!!

See the Wall Street Journal today for this fascinating article!

The Dodgers are on fire. 17-3 since the all-star break. I'm not sure what is going on there. They looked hopeless early in the season.

Scherzer is now 17-1 with a 2.84 ERA for Detroit. I'm beginning to feel the AL Cy Young vote is going to be a bit one-sided.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Ain't that the truth. Donny Ballgame was within a whisker of getting canned in June and now he can do no wrong. Dodgers look real good. -- Al

This is a great post and on point too; you can't keep bringing hired guns in, trading away top level talent at the trading deadline to get missing pieces and then not win the WS, it will catch up to you sooner or later.

The Red Sox in 2007 had 4 position players and 5 of their 12 pitchers as home grown talent, you can sign a free agent here and there, but you need to develop young players.

So true. I remember when the ultimate NYY dynasty hit the skids in the 60's and 70's. Everyone got old at once. Took them a few years to rebuild. With luck, the AL East may have a few years without the NYY's in the mix, but they will be back. Too much history, tradition, and, wait for it, MONEY, not to get back. -- Al

Since May 25th, three teams have a worse record than the Yankees; the AAA Astros, the Giants and the White Sox, who just swept the Yankees.

The Yankees have stayed competitive the past several years getting lucky signing corpse after corpse who took advantage of that short porch in right field.

With the addition of another wild card team, I'd never count them out, but it's looking pretty grim right now for the Yankees.

Nope, I'll never count them out; if they can come back from 14 games out in 1978, anything is possible.

Not happening this year George, I saw this collapse coming last fall in the playoffs with my orioles, even though the evil yanks won the series 3-2 the O's took them to their limit and the tigers got to finish them off easily, I saw that as the fall of the mighty yanks, even in this thread I picked them 4-5 place. As excited as I am about the orioles being competitive again it doesn't hurt my feelings at all to see the demise of the evil Yankees, so I hope it's a trend for them for a least a few more years but I also know they will buy every free agent on the market come this winter, but the old line rings true here...you can't always buy a championship just ask the bluejays :)...sammy

The Braves have a 13 game winning streak, the Tigers have a 12 game winning streak, the Yankees are falling fast, the Dodgers are 17-3 since the All-Star break, the Pirates are holding their lead in the central, the A's and Rangers are tied, Boston is playing a suddenly hot Royals team this weekend, the Rays, Orioles and Indians are all within 3 games of each other in the AL wild card race........

These are great times for baseball fans even if your favorite/hometown team is not in it.

I think this year will be the sinking of the great Yankees to the cellar, (sorry Louis) they are terribly banged up already with Jeter, Arod, and then another starter broke his arm this week, CC coming off surgery, thier top closer hasn't pitched in year, and that team is getting old, where as the O's, Rays, are catching up with them in talent, Boston will bounce back with a much better manager and of course none is going to beat the BlueJays :) so I'm picking the Yanks to finish last, my goodness that just has a nice sound to it:):)...Sammy

Aha!! found it, my prediction on 2-28-13, not to bad of a prediction, even told George his boys would return, Bobby V. just sucked as a manager, got a good chuckle about my comment on the Jays:)...Sammy

This was such an amazing prediction! I might just ask for your advice on the picking the upcoming NFL 2013 winners and losers.

Well last year I picked the Ravens to win the Superbowl in August,:):) so my predictions are doing pretty good, but my most fav. was when I bet Wayne (from Austrialia) a toy soldier of our choice in the Superbowl vs. 49'ers, everytime I look at my First Legion Para (with mohawk) I just get a little warm and fuzzy^&grin oh yea, I'm picking the Ravens to repeat:):)...Sammy

Hi Jason, i would love to pick my O's but I think they are still missing one/two pieces to get to the World Series, so I'm going ol school here and calling it a Boston vs. Atlanta Series...Sammy

It could be the Saaawx but I don't see Atlanta. Just not in love with that team. As things look now, I would go with the Cards or the Pirates. We're only in early August so it's really still to early to say.

I admire your picks Sammy and Brad, but I don't see the Red Sox getting to the WS.

Truth be told, they've won 11 or 12 games in their last at bat, that sort of luck runs out when you go up against playoff teams.

They don't have an ace, they don't even really have a solid #2 starter, Buckholz, who was their ace, has been on the shelf since June with an owie after he slept on his shoulder wrong, reports are now he'll miss the rest of the season as despite being cleared by two doctors to start a rehab assignment, he still doesn't feel right.

Unreal.

Not to mention their bullpen is a mess too, they are on to their third closer after the other two blew their arms out.

I'm thinking Tigers or Rangers vs Cardinals or Pirates at this point.

Arod returned to the Bronx with a vengeance; 0-4 with 3 K's.

He showed them.

And Mo blew another save, good idea to retire, that cutter isn't cutting anymore.

But fear not, the never say die Yankees pulled it out 4-3 and roared to within 10 games of the Red Sox.
