Pro sports has provided two wonderful gifs; first the Sanchez gif, now this award winner;

Holy cow, that throw wasn't close to anything, other than killing the second baseman.

Rodney, he of the crooked hat and acrobatic act on the mound after every save, is far and away my least favorite MLB player.

So, it couldn't have happened to a bigger nitwit than him.

And the red hot Rays are no more, losers of 6 of their last 10 and 3 in a row; amazing what happens when you play good teams vs a string of tomato cans for a month.

Now just go away Rays, you and your 12 diehard fans.

George, you're killing me.^&grin Your posts are the highlight of this thread. You have hit on my biggest pet peeve, players who haven't got enough sense to put their caps on straight. It just drives me wacko! Rodney is the biggest offender and I always root against him when he is in the game. The O's used to have a pitcher named Arthur Rhodes who I blame for this current fad for wearing the hat wrong. He used to wear his almost sideways and all I could ever think about when he was on the mound was how ignorant looking that off-center hat made him look. A silly peeve it is, but it just annoys me. -- Al

Respect the game.

Respect the uniform.

Crooked caps, flat bills, pants that drag on the ground, these guys look like hobos, not ball players.

And the flat bill really annoys me. When I played ball and we were issued our caps, I'd put elastics on the bill so it would bend, would constantly mess with it and bend the bill, these players today wear them flat as a board, they look like idiots.

The crooked hat bit Rodney in the rear end; he was so far off center due to the crooked hat, he threw the ball into right field, so he got what he deserved...........:smile2:

Completely agree with you about the flat bills. There is another tendency I have noticed but it is not as widespread, wearing a hat too big and tucking the ears under the brim. I guess it's too much trouble to fit the hat correctly.{sm2} -- Al

Gotta say I hate the flat brim too, George. Some have accused me of being a crotchety old codger for holding that view. " You're out of it, the world is passing you by". Let it pass then dagnabbit! ;)

There is a Braves pitcher who dons the flat brim. Good at his craft but I hate watching him. Just looks so freakin stupid.

Don't even talk to me about sideways. The League should prohibit that if they don't already. What, gonna it inside out next????

Ricky Fowler of the PGA takes some blame IMO. He's the only one, maybe Dustin Johnson? Who wears the flat brim among the pro golfers. Payne Stewart was an outlandish dresser but he had style. These guys today dress badly and pretend it qualifies as style.

Well call me an old codger too then, I don't call any of this nonsense style.

And Al's right, the oversize hats with the ears tucked in have to go too, enough is enough.

I can see it now, 'HATGATE' pushes the PED scandal from the headlines. MLB would be thrilled. :wink2: -- Al

Maybe the oversized hats and flat bills are an attempt to hide all the bulbous heads out there as a result of the PED use in the league...........

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! You are absolutely killing me...{sm3}{sm3}{sm3}-- Al

Just watched the O's drop a 1-run game to the Giants. Interesting fact given by the announcers in relation to the O's and 1-run games. Last year, the O's had that astounding 29-9 record in 1-run games and it propelled them to the playoffs. This year's record is a much inferior 14-17 record in those games but the O's are within 2 games of the same record as last year at this point, and still very much in the playoff hunt. Simply put, the O's and their offense are winning games by more than 1 run a lot more often this season. -- Al

Sox win; O's, Rays, Yankees all lose.

They just keep rolling along.

Unreal.

Red Sox dropped 3 of 4 to the go go Royals over the weekend.

Have to give the Royals fans credit, they haven't had a sniff of the playoffs in 28 years, yet they had a big crowd there today.

The traffic jam getting out of the parking lot with all those covered wagons must have been pretty bad.

Nats finally scored more than 2 runs for Strasburg, beating the Phillies 6-0. Strasburg got his first career complete game, a 4-hitter with 10 K's. Didn't allow a runner past first. A very dominating performance. The Nats big push for
.500 is on! :rolleyes2: Only 8 games out of the WC! Go team! And George, have I mentioned that you're killing me? Covered wagons.^&grin^&grin^&grin -- Al

The Dodgers are putting a beatdown on the Rays this weekend. Puig reminds me of Willie Mays. Big, fast and strong. I've never seen anything like him for a rookie.

You gotta love baseball and the way it can even things out, humble the great, and deal out reality in lethal doses. What a difference a year can make. Last year, 2012, Stephen Strasburg had 13 wins and an ERA of 2.90 after 23 starts. This year, Stras has 6 wins with an ERA of 2.83 after 23 starts. He has pitched just as well this year, and better in many cases, than he did last year, and yet his year looks terrible by the won-loss record. The Gods of MLB giveth and then taketh away. It's good for the player's character.:wink2: -- Al

O's have a possible problem developing with erstwhile 'sure thing' closer Jim Johnson. Last night he blew another save, his 8th blown save of the season, which leads the majors. It cost the O's their 2nd walk-off loss in a row to Arizona. Johnson had been lights out through 14 saves, but since then he has gone 25-8 in save chances, a 3 to 1 ratio, which isn't going to cut it. More importantly, the O's have lost 7 of those blown save games. The O's are in the middle of a playoff race, currently 2 games behind Oakland and Tampa Bay for one of the WC spots. They trail Boston by 6 games for the AL East lead. Easy to see by the numbers that the blown saves/losses have them outside looking in a this moment. Buck has a decision to make as to whether Johnson is the man to get them the saves they need to make the playoffs. Is a 75% success rate acceptable? I don't think so, not in a playoff race. Johnson just has not had a smooth year. He has 56 appearances, of which only 19 have been of the 1-2-3 types, all the others he has allowed at least 1 base runner and 14 of them have been multiple runners. Nothing has been easy. Of course, the big question is if not Johnson, who? I don't know the answer, but Buck better be worried about it. Another couple of blown saves could mean a blown season. -- Al

Closers are a never sure thing. Good one season, gonzo the next. As Sparky Lyle said in a different context, "From Cy Young to Sayonara." Makes what Rivera has done his career all the more remarkable.

So true, so true. The Nats former 'lights out' closer, Drew Storen (he of the 5th game playoff meltdown against the Cards last year), is currently in the minors trying to regain his confidence and form. Half the game is 90% mental, or something like that.:wink2::wink2: -- Al

O's are ticking me off. Once again, Johnson comes in to close out a game with a 1-run and has blown it, #9 on the year, and his third BS in a row. On to extra innings. -- Al
