O's are ticking me off. Once again, Johnson comes in to close out a game with a 1-run and has blown it, #9 on the year, and his third BS in a row. On to extra innings. -- Al

unfreaking real!!!!!! how does one pitcher do so well one year and suck so bad the next?? this series is going to hurt, and if the O's miss the playoffs by a game or two I'll think back to this series as we just gave away the entire series:mad:..I couldn't make it to any of the games because of work, but now I see that was a blessing in disquise, now I have to hear it all week from friends/co -workers here in Tucson:mad:...Sammy

You are right on the mark, Sammy. If the O's fail to make the playoffs, they can point right to this disaster of a series. Lead in all 3 games and lost all 3 by 1-run in walk-off fashion. Something has to be done about the closer. A team can't go into the last 40 games of a playoff race with a closer who has no confidence and is failing close to 33% of the time. Plus, the O's have to find a way to win 1-run games. I think they're 14-19 or 14-20 now, very different from last year. I still think they can get in but they have to solve the closer problem. -- Al

Good googley moogley, Alfonso Soriano is on fire. 17 games with the NYY, 7 Hr's and 21 RBI's. -- Al

Just got back from the Angels Yankees game. God, what a disaster. Angels have clearly given up on the season. Hate to say it but A-roid seems to have made a big difference.

Not happening this year George, I saw this collapse coming last fall in the playoffs with my orioles, even though the evil yanks won the series 3-2 the O's took them to their limit and the tigers got to finish them off easily, I saw that as the fall of the mighty yanks, even in this thread I picked them 4-5 place. As excited as I am about the orioles being competitive again it doesn't hurt my feelings at all to see the demise of the evil Yankees, so I hope it's a trend for them for a least a few more years but I also know they will buy every free agent on the market come this winter, but the old line rings true here...you can't always buy a championship just ask the bluejays :)...sammy

Well I hate to say I told you so, but look who's coming up on the outside rail, the MFY's.

Can you imagine if Aroid coming back to the team is what lights a fire under them?

Good God almighty.

8.5 out, there will be full blown panic in the streets of Boston if they come in here this weekend and sweep the Red Sox, who have stumbled, bumbled, burped and farted their way through Houston, Kansas City and Toronto, 4-5 on this Bataan Death March of a road trip.

After the MFY's, they go on the road to SF and LA; mark it down now.

IN PEN.

Punto, Crawford and Gonzalez will torture this team in LA.

Thank Christ football is back; wait, what? Brady hurt his knee today at practice?

Ok, time to keep all sharp objects away from me.

Soriano has hit 7 home runs in 17 games.

Yankees were probably due to break out and the injection of Soriano and Arod has given them a spark. However, their starting pitching is shaky and that will hurt them.

Tough road ahead, I am looking forward to them playing the Giants, even though SF is more than done for the year.

On the other hand, a few weeks ago I could have easily seen an Oakland Pittsburgh World Series, now (gulp), I hope we do not see a Yankee Dodger series..................................

LA Dodgers are a very good team. Beginning to think they are the real threat to take it all. -- Al

Eight in a row and 40-8 in their last 48 games. Another come from behind win last night scoring two in the ninth and beating the Mets in extra innings.

Their pitching hinges on CC. Kuroda and Nova have been very effective, Pettitte less so, and Hughes is a disaster. If CC can pitch well the Yanks have 3 good pitchers and a chance. If CC continues in his recent down mode, the Yanks only have 2 effective starters and that isn't enough to stay in it. -- Al

Nats have an actual chance to reach .500 tonight (hurrah), and they are sending Dan Haren, the former complete disaster of a starting pitcher, to the mound to try and win it. I say former disaster because Haren appears to have turned his season completely around after a short stay on the DL. Prior to the DL, Haren was 4-9 in 15 starts, with a horrendous 6.15 ERA, 5 QS, allowing 105 hits (15 Hr's) in 82 IP. Just a complete mess. After coming off the DL, Haren has gone 3-2 in 6 starts, with an excellent 2.45 ERA, 4 QS, and has allowed only 26 hits (2 Hr's) in 37 IP. A complete turn around and Haren is now a very effective member of the rotation. Hope he can keep it up and pull the Nats to the .500 mark. -- Al

O's have a possible problem developing with erstwhile 'sure thing' closer Jim Johnson. Last night he blew another save, his 8th blown save of the season, which leads the majors. It cost the O's their 2nd walk-off loss in a row to Arizona. Johnson had been lights out through 14 saves, but since then he has gone 25-8 in save chances, a 3 to 1 ratio, which isn't going to cut it. More importantly, the O's have lost 7 of those blown save games. The O's are in the middle of a playoff race, currently 2 games behind Oakland and Tampa Bay for one of the WC spots. They trail Boston by 6 games for the AL East lead. Easy to see by the numbers that the blown saves/losses have them outside looking in a this moment. Buck has a decision to make as to whether Johnson is the man to get them the saves they need to make the playoffs. Is a 75% success rate acceptable? I don't think so, not in a playoff race. Johnson just has not had a smooth year. He has 56 appearances, of which only 19 have been of the 1-2-3 types, all the others he has allowed at least 1 base runner and 14 of them have been multiple runners. Nothing has been easy. Of course, the big question is if not Johnson, who? I don't know the answer, but Buck better be worried about it. Another couple of blown saves could mean a blown season. -- Al
Since I wrote this, Johnson has added 2 more blown saves to his record. I see on the ESPN website today that writer David Schoenfield has written an article titled 'Jim Johnson, 2013's Least Valuable Player', which takes Johnson to task for exactly the failures I wrote about. Well Buck, what's it gonna be? -- Al

Sizzle-sizzle wonk! Crash and burn. Nats had a won game and then gave it away. Were within 1 strike of a 3-1 win and BOOM!, a 3-run Hr gives SF a 4-3 victory. A real crusher. Soriano's 5th blown save and a terrible place for it. Wasted Haren's QS and a shot a .500. What is it with the BW Corridor closers? Makes me want to cry.:({eek3} -- Al

At least my Jays took 2 out of 3 from Boston.

Yeah, that was just awesome.

You know if the Jays go say 36-5 the rest of the way, they'll be right in the thick of it, only 15 games out at this point as they gained 1 game in the standings by taking 2 out of 3.

Great game by Buehrle last night, he gave up 1 run on 412 hits.

There are scenerios sometimes that I truly dislike, but this weekend I will be a ...a..a..Yankee fan :(..yea," say it ain't so Joe" got nothing on me, got to pull for dem bums and hope they can take a few from the Sawks, come on A-Rod hit one out for me:)...Sammy

SCORE CHECK (this is what we call it at work and drop everything to check our phones):)

O's up 2-0 in 4th, maybe another 8-9 runs I'll feel a little safe.

'MY' Yanks:) are whipping the Sox 6-0 in the 3rd!!!

and the say never die Jays" are holding the Rays even 1-1- at the moment"...Sammy
