All of you are right. Whether it is A Rod or someone else the Yankees are always in the headlines for things beyond the game itself. Which is fine but it takes away from the true baseball stories, like Miguel Cabrera or countless other players. Granted in this day and age of reality TV that is what sells. However, I feel as a fan of baseball that it all does a huge disservice to the sport itself.

Really enjoying the annual AL East 3-ring circus. The O's have me just a tad worried. Can't seem to gain ground on anyone they need to. And I really wish they could get a starting pitcher to go more than 6 innings on a consistent basis. That bullpen is gonna die. -- Al

MLB suspends Dempster today for 5 games and fines him 2,500 for intentially hitting Arod.

Good, the best thing for the Red Sox is to get this stiff out of their rotation for a turn, he sucks.

He's got two pitches, balls and home runs.

What an awful signing he was.

And if he truly wants to save face he will not appeal.

Yankees take a DH from hapless Jays. They've passed KC, Birds are next.

Getting ugly in O's land as they dropped another to the Rays. Their lead over NY is now 1 lousy game. {eek3} -- Al

How about those Buccos! Pittsburgh still holding the lead over the Cards this deep in August, who would have thunk it? I have tix for Labor Day weekend against the Cards, guess that just might mean something. Who knows what can happend the rest of the season, but I am really happy the Pirates are competitive again.

Great post. I am not a Pirates fan but it sure is great to see a team that has been down that long back up again. It doesn't matter what the sport, a franchise like this with such a loyal fan base deserves a winning season and more.

I certainly would classify the Pirates as the biggest feel-good/surprise story of the season, followed closely by the Red Sox, and then the Indians, Athletics and even the Royals. On the down side are the disappointments such as the Angels, Blue Jays, Giants, and the biggest bust of all, the Nationals. And we still got the end of the season to go yet. One of those feel-good teams could be the biggest story of all.:wink2: -- Al

If nothing else, the last month or so of the season is going to be interesting around here, just hope there's not another el foldo like 1972, 1974 or 1978, there have been other cases where they blew the division title but got in as the wild card.

Lost to the Giants last night, 3-2, very conflicted as the Giants are my second favorite team, can't get upset about losing to them, they have great fans, both nights have been sell outs for a team going nowhere this year.............

I think it could be interesting. Right now, if we just look at losses, Boston and Oakland, with 54 losses each, occupy the two WCs, followed by Cleveland, Baltimore and the Yankees, with 58, 58 and 59 losses, respectively. In other words there's a 4 and a 5 game deficit, which is not very much and we have more than a month left to play. I suspect that come a month from now it will still be a five team race for two spots but the deficit will have shrunk.

I am a Giants fan and it has been a disappointing season although a repeat would be too much to ask, a winning season was expected. With that said I do like the way the fans still come out and talk radio is alive with talk about them. Definitely not a fair weather fan base.

Beyond all of that, above being a Giants fan I am a fan of baseball first. In my mind, despite the Giant's World Series last year, this season has been even more exciting. I think what the Sox and O's have done this year is so compelling that even with my team out of it, I find myself more interested than ever. The young talent of the O's and the storied history of Boston has made for great theater. Throw in Puig, Cabrera and some of the streaks like the Braves had and I dare say this has been one of the best years in a long time.

Have been a fan of the Giants for as long as I can remember, my Dad was a huge Mays fan, I was a huge McCovey fan, or Big Mac as he's better known.

Was bummed they lost the 1989 World Series to the A's, Will the Thrill and the rest of them, he had one of the sweetest swings going. Was happy when they signed Bonds, am still crushed how they blew the World Series to the Angels.

Was so glad to see them finally win one a few years ago, then the way they won it last year was outstanding, especially considering how awful the Red Sox season was last year.

And the organization is class all the way, a nice tribute the other night to the victims of the marathon bombing, the Boston Strong patches on their jerseys is a nice touch, just a classy thing to do.

Hi George. I was also a huge fan of the 3 M's in SF, Mays, McCovey, and Marichal. They seemed to be doomed to a second place finish every year. It is quite forgotten now, but the best pitcher of the 60's was not Koufax or Gibson, but Marichal, who won more games in that decade than anyone. But like his team and it's second place finishes, Marichal always seemed to be overshown when he had his big years by some other pitcher's career year. The Giants of the 60's had some great teams and even greater players but never managed to win the big prize. It was very frustrating. -- Al

The Red Sox are laying the wood to the Giants today; if this score holds up, it is too much to ask of the Orioles to win one @#$%ing game vs the Rays?

You'd better or the Yankees are going to go flying past you.

Ain't happening good mate,(Orioles beating Rays) my O's really took it on the chin in that Arizona series and have seemed to have drifted off back to the losing days of yester year:( not to many good things on either hitting, pitching at the moment so...unless the O's (who play Boston 9 times in the next month and half) are waiting for the Baseball Gods to smile upon them, the old saying of "just wait til next year" is looming large...Sammy

O's up 4-2, top of the ninth, no outs, runners on 1st and 2nd.

Next two Rays batters make outs, go ahead run at the plate, Maddon calls a double steal, runner gets thrown out at 2nd, ballgame.

What a moron.

Thanks Joe, thanks O's, Sox go up one game in the AL East.

There ya go George, my O's threw you a bone:)..but once again it wasn't easy in the bottom of 9th I had some old visions of a blown save to lose another one, but!!! my boys held on for this one, now time to run off 9-10 wins strait!!:)...Sammy
