Looks like the NL Central is reverting to form: Cards in First.

A little respect here??? The BREWERS are in first (as they have been all year)...they just happen to be tied with the Cards.

Actually, in the past week neither team can get out of their own way. I'm just glad that the Crew is off the west coast!

The Pirates were dead and buried a couple weeks ago, but suddenly very alive. On Thursday the Brewers-Cards series begins. No pressure!!!

They are tied for first that is true but losers of 8 out of 10. Sorry, but just don't see them winning the division.

Have to give the Cardinals a great deal of respect; since their current owners bought the team in 1995, they have been on a remarkable run of success, four trips to the World Series, they seem to be in the hunt every year, averaging 3 million in attendance the whole time, so they have passionate fans who support the team.

Second only to the MFY's with 11 WS wins, they are a great organization.

Have always liked the Cards. They are a class outfit. Loved the 60's teams. Was very glad to see Roger Maris play for them and be able to enjoy the last years of his career after being miserable in NY. -- Al

Believe it or not when I was a kid I was a huge Cardinals fan. Ozzie Smith was, and still is, my favorite baseball player of all time.

Guess I was off by only a few hours :wink2:

In looking at their month by month record, since the end of June, when they were 18 games over 500, they have played well below that, finishing August at 10 games over 500. They had better turn around that quick.

After losing the first 3 games of this road trip to the last place Phils, the Nats have been beating up on a couple of good pitching staffs out in Seattle and LA. The Nats have found a Home Run swing that is a little uncharacteristic, hitting 10 in the 2-1 series win in Seattle and hitting 4 more in tonight's 6-4 win over LA in the opening game of the series. Good time for it as with Atlanta being no-hit today, the Nats lead is at 7 games. Nats have an 8 game edge in the loss column over Atlanta, who have only 24 games left to catch the Nats. Not going to be easy but the Braves still have 6 games left with the Nats so nothing is decided yet. Nats are looking good both in pitching and hitting so all they have to do is not choke.{sm2} -- Al

Just finished watching one of the more remarkable Nat's games of the season. Finally beat the Dodgers in the 14th inning, 8-5. It was a lesson in frustration. After losing game 2 of the series to Kershaw last night, the Nats were shutdown again today and went into the 9th behind 2-0 and looking DOA. LaRoche hit a pinch-hit 2 run Hr to tie the game then the Nats added a 3rd run to go up 3-2. Soriano then proceeded to blow the save and the game went to extra innings. The Dodgers loaded the bases in the 10th and 11th with less than 2 outs and couldn't score. Nats scored 2 in the top of the 12th to lead 5-2. Clippard then blew the save in the bottom of the 12th on a 2-run, 2-out Hr and the game continued. Nats, with LaRoche leading the way, then scored 3 in the top of the 14th and this time shut the Dodgers down to win, 8-5. LaRoche, who entered in the 9th, had 5 RBI's. Good thing the Nats bullpen doesn't blow games like this too often. Rough on the BP. Nats now come home still hanging on to a 7 game lead over Atlanta. -- Al

Thanks for the help with the Dodgers!

Stick a fork in us...we're done.
Horrible time to slump but the Brew crew isn't dead yet. Potentially only 3 off the lead and still in good position for the Wild card. As they say, "It ain't over till the fat lady sings." -- Al

Jason, glad we could help. It was tough on my nerves. Even so, the Nats fared well against the NL West this year. Overall, the Nats went 24-9 against the west, with an 11-2 record against Arizona and Colorado in particular. Now we have to close the deal against our Eastern division foes. All our last 24 games are against them. Gonna be tough. -- Al

The forgotten man of the O's starting rotation, Miguel Gonzalez, just threw a CG shutout tonight, beating Cinncy 6-0. It was his first ML CG and shutout. O's starters just keep getting the job done and seem to be getting better and better. The O's also hit another 3 Hr's tonight. As Gen. Savage said, "Bombs away!" The current 9 game lead is starting to smell like a done deal. :wink2: -- Al

Things are not trending well, however: 2-8, 7 in a row on the minus side, while the Cards are 6-4 and 5 in a row on the plus side.

The A's simply can't hit right now.
A's continue to struggle. George is right. Looks like Billy Beane may have outsmarted himself on the Cespedes trade. A's had a 2 game lead when the trade occurred. They have gone 13-19 since then and now trail the Angels by 4.5 games with only 23 games left on their schedule. If the A's hadn't been so good for the first 100 games, they'd be DOA now. -- Al

O's complete the sweep of Cinncy, and hit 3 more Hr's to give them 185 for the season. Roll on Orioles! -- Al

Sox blow a 4-3 9th inning lead to the MFY's, who refuse to go away in the wild card race.

Horseface, who hasn't hit a home run since Christ was in a crib, hit a home run to right at Williamsport East for the tie, then Lamar Hedley's son Chase, who's going to look great at 3rd base for the Sox next year as the MFY's get A-Roid back after his suspension, hit another home run to right ( a familiar theme at the new Yankee Stadium) to win it.

Awesome, just awesome; so glad we got the most out of Koji last year as this year, he's got two pitches, balls and home runs...............

Think you mean manger :wink2:

Looks like the NYY's have a pitching star in the making. They lost tonight, 1-0, on an unearned run and the losing pitcher was Pineda, whose record fell to 3-4 on the season. Pineda had 4 starts in April before getting hurt and has had 5 starts since coming off the DL in mid-August. In 6 of his starts he has given up 1 or fewer earned runs. In his other 3 starts he has only given up 2 runs per start. The totals are 10 earned runs in 9 starts, 7 of which were QS. In his 50 innings he has fanned 34 but has only walked 4 men. His current era is 1.80 and his last 2 games were lost 2-0 and 1-0. I'm going to be real interested to see what this guy can do when he gets a full season in. -- Al
