Been a good 2 nights for the O's and Nats, both winning the first 2 games of their current series. At the risk of jinxing everything, I'm going out on a limb and saying the races in the AL East and NL East are finis. O's lead Toronto by 10 with 18 left to play and the Nats lead Atlanta by 9 with 19 to play except Atlanta is a little worse off than it seems because they are 10 down in the loss column and only have 17 games left to close the gap. Epic collapses, such as Oakland is facing, are the only things that will stop the O's and Nats from taking the East titles. Looks like the Angels have locked up the AL West, leading the fading A's by 8. Oakland has only gone 7-17 since August 13 and the downward trend is getting steeper, having won only 2 of their last 11. In fact, Oakland will be fortunate if they can even grab a wildcard spot the way they have been playing. The other title races are still open races, although it does look as if St. Loo has grabbed control of the NL Central. The best remaining race in the NL looks to be whether the Brewers or Pirates can get the last wildcard spot because it looks like LA and SF will both make the playoffs in the NL West. No way to call the AL Central or the wildcards in the AL right now. -- Al
Sammy, I have to say that I thought the O's would be hitters from the word go. It's their starting pitching that has really surprised me. It is much better than I thought it would be, especially since they took that disaster Jimenez out of the rotation. O's get 5-6 good innings then go to the outstanding bullpen. The O's have good pitching, good hitting, and good fielding. I like their chances of getting to the WS. It is scary to think how good they could have been with Wieters and Machado in the line-up all year or if Hardy and Davis had offensive years close to their 2013 numbers. But the what-ifs mean nothing. A 10 game lead says it all. -- AlRight on Al, the O's send Hardy home for the entire Red Sox series and plug in a new guy and he hits 2 homeruns last nite!!! I try not to dwell on the injuries of the O's but just would like to think if we had Machado, Wieters, even Hardy has been back and forth with injuries I wonder how much better this team could be?? not crying over it, as the team has played great ball all year with injuries, starting to watch the magic number as I dare not want to jinx anything...Sammy
Tigers/Royals all even in the Central; they're playing tonight for first place.
Pulling for the Tigers to win the Central and the Royals to get one of the wild cards, Mariners to get the other, Angels get the wild card play in game winner, Orioles would get the Tigers.
And yah, yah, yah, Orioles get HFA, whatever; they also get VMart, Miggy, Price, Verlander and Scherzer in a short series.
Best of luck with that.
George,The way the Tigers have played since the All Star break don't the Orioles are afraid of that Team, they are playing better ball but Doesn't matter to me who they play, just got to get there (playoffs) first...Sammy

8 in a row for Angels! Get your RED ON!
Angels have buried the A's. A's have faded themselves out of the division title, and it looks like they are going to fade themselves out of the playoffs. Maybe Trout will finally get the MVP this year. He's got the numbers and he is the catalyst on a really good offensive team. -- Al8 in a row for Angels! Get your RED ON!
Giants have stayed right there, played through their slump, and are now in good shape. Good to see. -- AlThe Giants are right there with them. They have won 9 in a row at home and Posey is hitting .489 in the last 11 games! Bring on the Dodgers.......
Hard to believe, but that the one trade that sent Cespedes to Boston seems to have been the spark that set the A's house on fire. They have gone 15-24 since that trade was made. Dangerous to mess with team chemistry when all is going right. -- AlThe way the As have folded has to be one of the worst. The Angels have passed them so quickly it's amazing. A few weeks ago, the As took two out of three from the Angels and seemed in good shape even though the Angels were one up in the loss column. The Angels later that week took four from them at the Big A and that was the end of the race. It was the western version of the Boston massacre.
In a way you have to feel bad for As fans. I look at some of their Twitter comments and they're hurting.
