Baseball 2014 (2 Viewers)

A good weekend for the O's, topped by tonight's walk-off win against the NYY's, 3-2. Was the O's 30th 1-run win, which leads baseball. Their lead now moves to 11.5 games over Toronto and leaves their magic number at 3. That B/W corridor WS possibility is alive and kicking. O's having another great season in regards to close games as they are now 30-21 in 1-run games and 14-5 in extra innings, which leads baseball, as well. Could be destiny. -- Al

Al:

I was switching back and forth between the O's/Yanks and the Niner game. Great game, great win and one step closer to clinching he division for you and Sammy.

Went to bed with the score 1-0 Yankees, so that's good news. BTW, hate/strongly dislike the red caps they wore last night, even if it was in honor of the Star Bangled Banner anniversary. Looked like a Nat'l league team cap with the red color. Chris

The Giants ran into the buzz saw that is Clayton Kershaw yesterday. I have said it before, and at the risk of losing my Giants fan club membership, the guy can flat out pitch. Not that was I cheering for him, but as a fan of the game I had to appreciate and respect his skills.

Just like Halliday and Verlander were on top at one point, so Kershaw is now. There is always someone who hits a groove and is all but unbeatable for a few years. As you say, as a fan of the game, just tip your cap to him and dream that he was on your team. -- Al

The O's and Nats both won against the second place teams tonight. The O's clinched a tie for the East title and reduced their magic number to ONE. The Nats, in beating the Braves, have reduced them to a .500 team and moved their magic number to TWO. Both the O's and the Nats could clinch their respective titles tomorrow. It was a good night. -- Al

Actually Al, it was a great night!!! I have been keeping my excitement down for weeks ( afraid to jinx it) :) but after many sad late Septembers I believe our Orioles will finally have a division title!!! Congrats also to the Nats, and who knows??? But as I saw a sign at the game last nite " ya can't spell October without the O's!!!!!! :)...Sammy

Sammy, jinx or not, the O's and the Nats have got the titles in the bag. All we have to do now is win a few more games in the post-season and we will have a B/W corridor World Series. At least I will hope for it until there is no hope.:wink2: -- Al

Angels have punched their playoff ticket. A great year for them so far. Magic number to win the West is 3. Unless things go haywire, they will, in all likelihood, have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. I will be out in California when the ALCS starts so here's hoping they dispose of whoever they face so we can get a game in.

Get your Red On! October will be Red!

Angels crushed the Mariners and became the first team to clinch a playoff spot. Congratulations Brad. ^&grin -- Al

Never now Al, but teams are playing good ball right now, speaking of which ESPN did a little highlite of the O's and didn't realize they have the most wins over all in the last 3 years in the AL East!! just hoping the O's management can keep this team together?? I know Hardy, Weiters, Markakis are all free agents next year and if Peter Angelos has enjoyed watching Camden Yards seats fill back up for a change he will due what's right to keep this team together for as long as possible...Sammy

You got that right Chris!!!! I'll be watching tonite with a few cold ones (sadly no Natty's) hard to find in Arizona, but let's get the W tonite and party like it's 1997!!!!!...Sammy

Resigning those players is crucial. Markakis is my favorite O's player but I'm not sure ownership appreciates him as much as they should. Same with Hardy. I'm a little bit nervous in regards to the O's commitment to resigning those two. They are crucial components but it seems that nothing is being done to lock them up. This is not the time for Angelos to start pinching pennies. Hardy and Markakis are under-the-radar type players but they are two of the best at what they do.
I see that the O's pitching continues to improve as the team ERA is now the 7th best in all of MLB. That is a tremendous achievement considering they were in the lower third for much of the first half of the season. The starters continue to impress and the bullpen has always been good. I like the chances. -- Al

Thanks Al. I think the best ALCS would be Angels v. Orioles (no disrespect to fans of the other teams) as they are the two best teams in the American League, if not all of baseball. It would be a cracker of a series.

Brad

I find it interesting that if things stay the way they are, some regions will each have a team in the playoffs with a potential regional World Series possible in three place, O's/Nats, A's/Giants and Angels/Dodgers. (Four if you count the Royals/Cardinals)

Matt Shoemaker may have an oblique strain. The Angels have no margin for error with their starting pitching. It might catch up to them in the playoffs.

Nats take the NL East crown! Congratulations, boys. Ya done good.^&grin:salute:: -- Al
