Baseball 2014 (2 Viewers)

Two more great games last night, both low scoring one run affairs.

Giants looked cooked, Zimmerman was mowing them down; I'm with Al, that walk meant nothing, what was Williams thinking yanking him there, what a disaster.

Two outs, nobody on, a walk, base hit, then another hit, tie game, pulled it out around midnight EST. They need to finish this Monday, don't give the Expos any life.

Wong cost the Cardinals the game by tanging Grenke with his glove with the ball in the other hand, he scored a run there; if he hadn't maybe they'd still be playing now at 8:42AM EST.

Today is pop warner day for me; coaching the Taunton B team, we're undefeated and playing our biggest rivals today, then it's off to watch football today, no baseball for me, might watch bits and pieces of the games, but it's football day today.................

And that's why they play the games. These DS have thrown off my crystal ball. Given that the Dodgers and Cards are 1-1, I'm just a little surprised the Dodgers aren't up 2-0, and I expected the O's to be up on the Tigers. It's the other two DS that have me shocked. Never thought the Royals could hang with the Angels, much less shut them down so completely. And talk about shut down, my Nats have been totally stone-walled by the Giants pitching. Both the Angels/Royals and the Nats/Giants have been playoff pitching at it's best and shows, once again, what a hot pitching staff can do to even the best offense. At the very worst, I expected the Nats/Giants to be 1-1 but the Giants have exploited the one real weakness that the Nats exhibited all season, the inability to hit with runners in scoring position. The Giants have also taken the offensive catalyst, Denard Span, out of the equation as he is 0fer the series, with only a single walk for his efforts. All credit to the Giants as they have done the number on the Nats. The pitching on both sides has been fantastic but the Giants have just been a tick better and that is enough. -- Al

Hi Sammy,
Hopefully you will have off today so you can watch the Game, got home from a nice Vacation and really couldn't be happier with our situation the last two eight innings have been something truly special. Also wanted to ask ya if you know anyone interested in buying a Ray Rice Jersey ? I missed the Jersey exchange at the Stadium :wink2:. regards Gebhard

Hi Gebs, yes I'm off today!!!! Hoping for a O's/Ravens sweep!!!! Both games being away are going to be very tough to win, but sending good thoughts to my teams and hoping a little luck falls their way :) as far as the Rice Jersey no help there, donate it to Good Will/ Salvation Army maybe?? Hope you had a great vacation and let's go O's and Ravens!!!...Sammy

Buck be a genius. Putting the winning run on to set up the DP, and it worked! Cy1, Cy2, Cy3, all gone. Norris rules. Next!^&grin -- Al

And Trout awakens. Maybe the Angels can get back in this thing. -- Al

Where did KC find this sudden Hr power? 90something for the whole year and now they're raining them on LA. ^&confuse -- Al

Sammy:

Congrats! That was a great game. I watched the 9th inning of it instead of the last 2 minutes of the Niner game.

Ok, I have waited to say anything less I somehow curse them, but the Royals win has given me hope that the Giants can do the same and sweep the Nats.

I hesitate to say that because the Nats are really good and the Gaints can be very streaky.

Oh well, we will find out soon enough.

If the history of these playoffs hold true, you will get your sweep and then I will have to read about the DC playoff disaster until next spring, unless the Redskins get worse and knock the Nats off the front page. Maybe Williams can use the off-season to practice patience with his starting pitchers.:rolleyes2: If the Giants do knock the Nats out, that sets a possible Black/Orange West vs Black/Orange East for the World Series. That would be entertaing.:wink2: -- Al

My thought when both teams were 0-2 was that one would survive and the other not. Unfortunately, that team was the Angels. Their weaknesses were exposed, not so much in hitting, but in weak starting pitching. I knew that the loss of Garrett Richards (who was one of the best pitchers in MLB until his injury) would come back to bite them and it did. In addition, they never should have taken the foot off the gas after they clinched the West. The first game was the key. It gave the Royals a full head of steam.

I think the Nationals are too good, too balanced, for them not to survive, or at least not make it a five game affair.

Hope you are correct, Brad, but it might be too late, especially if the Nats don't improve their situational hitting. In their last 10 games (8 regular season and 2 playoff), the Nats have stranded 82 runners. That is a LOT of runs left on base. They have stranded 18 against the Giants. That about tells the story. With their pitching, the Nats got away with it in the regular season, but the playoffs are a different animal. The Giants have exposed the weakness. Doesn't matter how good the pitching is if you can't outscore the opposition. Good pitching makes for close games but not scoring makes for close losses. I fear that the Nats are going to join the Angels in wondering what hit them and where it all went wrong. I won't give up until the last out, but I am a little pessimistic.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I'm sure the executives at FOX and MLB are just thrilled over the ratings bonanza that Royals/Orioles is going to provide..............

Anyway, I guess I was wrong about both series, which is why you play the games. The Tigers bullpen did them in, that game two loss was a killer as they had that game basically won.

The Angels getting swept is a real head scratcher; best record in MLB, would have had HFA throughout the entire playoffs, now the winner of O's/Royals will have HFA in the WS.

I hope the Giants can finish the Nationals today and get their pitching lined up for the NLCS; that Cardinals/Dodgers series is going to be a 5 game war I think.

I hope the Giants (or the Cardinals) advance to the WS to give me a team to root for, otherwise forget it, I'm out...................

From a rating point of view, MLB and Fox (who will be showing the NLCS) would prefer Dodgers vs. Giants and who wouldn't want to see that (sorry Al but most would care to see Dodgers Giants).

For the WS, Dodgers (again) vs Orioles would be the preference for the ratings people although anything involving the Dodgers would probably be ok. Giants vs Orioles would be less preferable and anything involving the Royals other than Dodgers would be a ratings disaster.

My preference would be Giants vs Orioles although LA vs Orioles would be good too.

I understand the draw of SF v LA as opposed to DC being in. But you want a ratings disaster? Try KC v St. Loo. There you have a 2-state interest, at best. I would love DC v Baltimore but I know MLB needs an East coast v West coast type of thing to draw ratings. Baltimore v the Dodgers would be a nice match-up (as in '66) but I would prefer SF (given that DC won't be in) vs Baltimore. As I said earlier, it would be a Black/Orange thing.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

KC vs Cards would be a ratings disaster, agreed. Wonder how the 85 series did. My personal preference would be Giants Os. Ratings aside, Nats Os would be a good series. But what would Al do? {eek3}

Enjoy it until the day I die.:wink2:^&grin^&cool -- Al

Nats live to fight another day as Fister saves their butts with 7 shutout innings. Nats win it 4-1, and like the other games, one play was the difference. We'll take it and be thankful we have regained some dignity and a trace of momentum. One at a time. -- Al

Al:

Great game from Fister, on the road no less. I tip my cap, on the brink of elimination and the Nats answered the call and got the win.

Looking forward to the next game too.
