Good 'ol Gopher Ball Strickland strikes again. Maybe this kid needs some more seasoning somewhere besides the playoffs. It's going to be a tragedy if this kid has his confidence totally destroyed. SF needs to let up on him and let him learn his trade without post-season pressure. -- Al

Thanks, Jason.
It looks like KC vs SF for all the marbles. Sf has put the Cards in a very rough position and I think that SF will probably finish them behind Bumgarner tonight. Thank goodness SF looks to be moving on. I don't think I would have watched much of a WS with KC v St. Loo. The Giants will give me a rooting interest and a reason to watch. One caveat, if KC's pitcher Jeremy Guthrie should get a chance to pitch in the series, I will root for him to do well, as I have been a fan of his since he was an Oriole. And all bets are off if he pitches in Game 7. Go SF! -- Al
Holy nightmare come home to roost! What are the odds that this matchup would actually happen? Posted the above on Oct. 16 and now here we are, exactly what I hoped to avoid. I can only hope that Guthrie pitches a good game but that SF gets to the KC bullpen to win the series. Boy do I hate this kind of conundrum. How in the world did it come to this? {sm2} -- Al

I'd rather lose a game like tonight than a close game. Tonight's game is easy to forget. In 1960 the Yankees ripped the Pirates a new one in their three wins but the Pirates won the Series. If the Giants win tomorrow, tonight's game will be a blip.

Just looked up the 60 WS. Yanks beat the Pirates 16-3, 10-0 and 12-0 (game 6) but the Pirates won the close ones.

The sound you just heard was TVs clicking off or maybe Jason hitting the bottle.

Brad:

I started off having a couple of beers thinking that it would be a celebratory night, but stopped halfway through the second inning. I figured I should save it for tonight. Either way it works, it will either be a celebration or a drowning of the sorrows.

I almost stared drinking again in the 5th inning when my wife announced that I would need to watch the next 7 episodes of Love it or List it with her as payback for her having to watch the World Series with me. Who says that the night couldn't get worse?

-Jason

Since 1979, there have been nine WS that went seven games. No road team has won. That is a daunting number.

Get ready for more payback from your wife Jason {eek3}

I just hope that game 3 loss does not come back to haunt the Giants.

Good Lord is Peavy awful, he's the perfect NL pitcher at this stage of his career as he can't get AL line ups out anymore.

What a epic failure; comes down to Hudson now vs Guthrie.

I want to see Hudson pull a Zito, another A's pitcher the Giants signed who came through in the post season.

On paper, we're in trouble, but games aren't played on paper.

GO GIANTS!

The 1960 series is the first WS I have any memory of, not because I was interested, but because of all the buzz it created amongst the adult fans. I remember how many of them were shocked that the Pirates managed to win the series. Because of all the talk surrounding this series, I became a baseball fan the next season, just in time to catch the M & M boys do their Hr act. It was a great season to get hooked on MLB.:wink2: -- Al

Hudson vs Guthrie for all the marbles. Hudson could come through but I would feel a lot better had the Giants started Bumgarner in Game 4 so he could start this Game 7, as well. I have a LOT more confidence in Bumgarner than in Hudson. However, as much as I like him, Guthrie is very hittable on most nights and prone to Hr's. The question is which pitcher will withstand the pressure of a Game 7 as both of them are pitching in their first WS and, obviously, their first Game 7. I honestly think the Giants chances lay with whether they can get to Guthrie or not. With the KC bullpen, SF is looking at a 6 inning window of opportunity. My opinion is that KC wins this thing if they can get to the bullpen portion of the game. Hudson MUST come through with a strong start and SF HAS to get to Guthrie. JMO. -- Al

Al:

I like the way Bumgarner has been handling the questions about not starting game 7, he is giving praise to Hudson and showing confidence in his teammates.

Not to get all Disney but the Hudson story truly is great. He suffered a horrific injury last year and at 39 years old came back to not only play on a World Series team but to pitch game 7 of that series. You add that to the fact the he is one of the most humble and liked players in the majors and it is difficult not to cheer for the guy.

I am getting a little nervous now as game time approaches. It almost has a Superbowl feel to it, one game, winner take all and the end of a great season for both teams.

And so the rollercoaster is off and running. Hudson can't hold the lead and KC is into the SF bullpen already. So much for the veteran pitcher angle. I don't like this. -- Al

It's all up to the bullpens now. -- Al

I'm surprised the Royals haven't plunked somebody. They can't leave that unaddressed.

Bottom of 6 and a 1-run game. A worthy 7th game so far and Bumgarner looks pretty good. This has been a good game and a very entertaining series. -- Al

Beginning to think that Bumgarner has the MVP wrapped up, regardless of who wins. Now stands at 18 innings over 3 appearances having allowed only 1 run. Unless KC gets to him, I don't see anyone else getting the award. -- Al

This is a GREAT game. Through 8 and 3 outs left for KC. Bumgarner has been unbelievable. What does Bochy do? Take him out for the closer or leave him in to face the 2 lefthanders in the 9th? Is there such a thing as a 5 inning save? What a nail-biter. Sink or swim with Bumgarner. Go Giants! -- Al

Congratulations, Giants and Jason. What a fantastic series. Can't remember the last time I enjoyed the WS this much. Bumgarner goes 3-0, despite the mess-up in the outfield in the 9th. Bad time for that kind of error, but it didn't matter as it turned out. Now maybe Bumgarner can get some rest, a well deserved rest as series MVP. Congratulations to KC, as well, they played a fine series and lost by only the closest possible margin. -- Al
