Bumgarner is looking good. If the game stays close, SF will have to keep him in the game. If SF can score some runs and get some distance in this game, maybe Bumgarner can be pulled with an eye towards a possible Game 7. But only if SF can put this game away early enough to make a difference to Bumgarner's pitch count. -- Al

That he's pitching in the 8th inning demonstrates that he will not be pitching again this season.

Wonder if Jason is at the ballpark tonight with one of those panda heads ^&grin

Tend to agree. A pitch count of 107 is a big number to recover from in 2 days. Still, I would not rule out an emergency appearance in a tight game 7 situation where a couple of outs are needed to maintain a late lead or where a couple of outs are needed in a possible game changing spot. I think Bumgarner should be finished for the season, unless he's not.:wink2: -- Al

SF up 5-0 and Bumgarner is batting. Have to say I am surprised. Obviously means he will pitch the 9th, further uping his pitch count. Even I will concede that this probably means he will not be available for any further work in the series. I am surprised that he is not being pulled with this lead, just in case of a possible 7th game emergency. I guess SF figures Bumgarner passed the point of no return somewhere earlier in the game, some maximum pitch count set before the game that would determine a possible 7th game appearance. -- Al

Man, he was dealing tonight!

A performance for the ages.

He could be one of the great ones.

That said, brilliant game for Bumgarner. A real money pitcher in a must have game. Just brilliant. Back to KC, Giants up 3-2, and with the advantage. Go Giants!^&grin -- Al

Cardinals prospect Oscar Taveras, who was only 22 and considered to have star potential, has been killed in a car accident in the Dominican Republic. His girlfriend also perished in the accident.

So young with a bright future. RIP to both of them.

A tragedy like this trumps any game, any time in any sport.

I still remember his HR just a month ago in the NLCS against the Giants. Thoughts to his family and that of his girlfriend.

Brad/Al:

Good news and bad news on this post:

Bad news, we are currently at our home in Texas to tend to the expansion of our gyms.

Good news, every time the Giants have won the World Series in the past 5 years I have been in Texas for one reason or another, the times I have been in Cali they have lost or not made the payoffs at all. Rest assured I am staying in Texas until the Series is over!

Seriously, Bumgarner is the Jack Morris of this era, quietly dominant in the regular season and practically unbeatable in the playoffs. Pence is a superstar, quirky, but still a superstar. He can finally silence his critics that feel that he is over-rated and over-paid.

Ok, we have been here before back in 2002, same win pattern too. I hope we can close this out Tuesday and avoid a winner take-all game 7.

GO GIANTS!!!

-Jason

Despite being down 3-2, the odds favor the Royals. They had a 2-1 lead in the Series and teams that have that lead win the WS 67% of the time. In addition, recent history has shown teams that are down 3-2 and have the last two games at home tend to win the WS; this has recently happened in eight out of ten times. The Royals did it in 1985, a team we won't mention because of George's tenders sensibilities  did it the next year and the Twins won in 1987. The notable exceptions are the 1992 Braves (who lost to Toronto) and the 2003 Yankees (who lost to the Marlins).

Brad, SF apparently considers Game 6 so important that they are considering having Bumgarner available out of the bullpen, if need be. Hardly a subtle indication that SF really does not want to go to a Game 7 in KC. -- Al

You never want to go to a game 7 and Bochy did indicate that Baumgarner would be available for some work out of the pen but I'd rather hold him for game 7 and I can't imagine they would pitch him one day's rest.

I obviously want this all to end tonight and it seems like Bochy does too.

On a side note. I wonder if the day off in-between this game and the Giants' last 2 wins will change the momentum at all?

Looks like Royals are doing to Giants what Iron Mike did to Doc {eek3}

Peavy sure didn't stand up to the pressure for very long. SF in the bullpen in the 2nd, not a good sign, and down 6-0. Just my natural pessimism here, but I wish SF had thrown Bumgarner in Game 4, because it looks like they will need him in Game 7. -- Al

The sound you just heard was TVs clicking off or maybe Jason hitting the bottle.

I'm thinking maybe just a little bit.:rolleyes2: This game has been ugly. KC was ready to rock 'n roll. -- Al

As the saying goes, momentum is only as good as today's starting pitcher and Peavey was awful and that's being charitable.

Hudson should do better tomorrow but at the first sign of trouble we'll see Mad Bum.
