Maybe so Al but they also have to think about the future, not just this World Series.

I understand that, to a degree, but when the stars align after a long season, and your team gets to the series, you pull out all the stops to win and worry about next season the day after the Series ends. In any pro sport, things have to go exactly right to get to the championship, and it generally doesn't happen often, so when you get there it is all hands on deck. You just never know when the opportunity to play for the title will come around again. Bumgarner has all winter to rest. -- Al

A World Series championship is nice but they have two recently. It's not like they're starving for one. This guy is a huge talent who will only get better and he's left handed too boot. Where do you find left handed fireballers? He's also pitched over 200 innings each of the last four years. What if he hurts his arm and is lost for a year? Sorry, that's not a risk worth taking. Caution has to be their byword.

Again, I see that POV, but my argument is that if this Series goes to a 7th game, Bumgarner is going to get used, no ifs, ands, or buts, and I just think it would be better for him (and the Giants) if he was going on 3 days rest and not 2 days like it will be now. -- Al

You may think that but where has that been said? You're of the school that he can rest the remainder of the year but that is not how the game is played anymore.

I don't know that it has been said, or even discussed. Just going off the understanding that the Giants will not go into a deciding Game 7 with their best pitcher on the bench and not to be used. I may be cynical, but I think the Giants will do anything to win a Game 7 and will worry about the possible consequences later. I think all teams would do that. But, as you said, I am of a different school and time.:wink2: -- Al

Well, let's see first if we get that far. If we do, I'm sure the debates will start, but until then.....

Looking at the game right now, forget Baumgarner, bring in Carl Hubbell or Mathewson!

Not a good job of managing in my opinion. Yup, they could use Carl.

Now 4-4 in the bottom of the 5th. Been a good game but it sure is taking a lot of time. Taken 2.5 hours to get through 5. It'll be tomorrow before this one is done.{sm2} -- Al

Giants take the lead. They will have to thank Petit for the outstanding relief job that allowed them to catch the Royals. Fun game to watch. -- Al

Gee, looks like a total meltdown of the ALL WORLD, GREATEST, BESTEST, Royals bullpen, three runs and counting, all with two outs. Giants go from down 4-1 to up 7-4, a 6 zip run.

They better save some runs for tomorrow. Goodnight all and congrats Jason ^&cool

Things sure went south for KC in a rapid and complete manner. Giants back in the driver's seat. Still must have Game 5 to put KC in the hole. Great game by the Giants tonight and especially Petit. Pence is an MVP type player. -- Al

Needless to say, tonight is huge for the Giants; they've got their ace going, they need to win this one and have two shots for the fourth win with Peavy and Hudson going in KC.

GO GIANTS!

Cardinals prospect Oscar Taveras, who was only 22 and considered to have star potential, has been killed in a car accident in the Dominican Republic. His girlfriend also perished in the accident.

So young with a bright future. RIP to both of them.

That's a terrible tragedy. RIP. -- Al
