He and Branca eventually became good friends and stayed that way until Bobby passed away.

Speaking of Branca, do you know who his son in law is: Bobby Valentine.

Congratulations to you and the Giants, Jason. Your boys did it. Now to get the pitching staff a few days rest. Bumgarner will get his 4 days for Game 1 and the pen will get some well earned rest. -- Al

Al:

Thanks to you and the others on this thread that have been pulling for me and the Giants.

The rest will be huge, although part of me wanted to go one more game so that the Royals and their momentum might be slowed down by the lay-off. Oh well, I will take it!

It is difficult to contain my excitement. I know there is still a long way to go but I am so proud to be a Giants fan right now.

That walk off home run last night was a no doubter, what a bullet that was.

Red Sox in the WS last year, Giants in the WS this year, I couldn't be happier, now finish the job Giants, I want back to back WS wins from my two favorite teams....................

Pride in your team and it's accomplishments is what the whole thing is about.:salute:: -- Al

Really looking forward to this series, so happy about the Giants getting there.

Just a bunch of lunch pail guys who grind away and get wins. What a roller coaster season, they looked unbeatable early, could do no wrong, then they went into a massive skid, pulled out of it, got hot at the right time and are back in the World Series.

They remind me a lot of the 2013 Red Sox; they got Peavy and Panik and Peavy has been great for them. Love Pence, he's one of my top 5 favorite MLB players, Morse was a monster last night, comes off the bench and hits an absolute bomb to tie the game. Ishikawa has been awesome, panda and Posey are a great combo in the middle of the line up.

Romo has been pretty much lights out and last but not least, so happy for Tim Hudson, his first World Series, good for him.

George:

I couldn't say it better. The Giants have been so up and down this season but they have gotten wins whenever they needed them. They have played through injuries and never given up.

The one thing I truly want besides the World Series championship is for Posey to get the 3 RBI's he needs to pass Bonds as the team’s all-time leader in playoff runs batted in. The sooner we remove that stain from our record books the better.

I think it will be a great series, I can't wait to see Bochy versus Yost. Two good old boys who come off as "aw shucks guys" who are actually baseball geniuses.

Go Giants!

Sammy:

No need to apologize. Out of respect to others on here I have kept relatively quiet about the Giant's trip to the Series. After all, it is difficult to celebrate while friends' teams are getting knocked out. I felt the same way when the Giants beat the Nats.

Thanks for the congrats and I hope we avenge the O's by beating KC! It sure wont be easy, but if we are going to do it we have to get to their starting pitching. KC's relief pitchers can easily protect 1 run leads.

Thanks again and Go Giants!

Bumgarner vs Shields in Game 1. I think SF takes Game 1 on the road because Bumgarner has proved to be a money pitcher in this post-season, Shields has not. Bumgarner has 4 post-season starts, all quality, is 3-1 and averaged 8 innings per, with an ERA of 1.42. Can't do much better. Shields has been relatively ineffective in his 3 starts, being 1-0 but has only averaged 5.1 innings with a 5.63 ERA. I like SF in this match up. -- Al

I am a little nervous going into tonight's game. I suppose that is normal. I just want to get the Series started.

And before it begins, I just want to say thank you again to all of you who have reached out to me and shown support for the Giants. It means a lot to share this time among supporters, fans and friends.

GO GIANTS!!!!!

Must get WS underway. Got the shakes from 5 day break with no baseball. Longest break since before Opening Day, last April. Cannot focus, getting dizzy........... -- Al

Almost time! I am digging in on the couch with Uno and James Franco, the two biggest canine fans of baseball you would ever meet.

The wife even gave me a hall pass on dinner. Earlier today I went to the local German deli and got some brats and sauerkraut. I then went to the local bakery and got some fresh sandwich rolls for the brats to complete the full stadium effect. I also bought some of my favorite beer that is sold at AT&T Park. I could not duplicate the stadium experience completely as the beers did not cost $9 each.

GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Terrific start for the Giants. I thought Shields would be vulnerable. Now the Giants have to put them away before KC gets it's feet under them. -- Al

Bumgarner has been really impressive. That Hr he gave up in the 7th is the first run he has given up in his WS pitching career. This is his 3rd career WS start, covering 22 innings, with just the 1 run surrendered. Not too shabby. Now the Giants need to get Timmy L some work, somehow. He hasn't pitched since September 28, so some game action in a 6 run game would be a good spot to get him in. Can't allow him to rust up completely. :rolleyes2: -- Al

Well, no Timmy L but an impressive win for SF in Game 1. Thought KC looked a little star-struck and just out of it. Bumgarner is now 3-0 in WS play. -- Al

Al:

It was a good win, still need 3 more. I agree, it would be nice to get TL in for an inning or two, last night's game seemed like the perfect time for it.

KC is one of those teams that will not stay down long. However, I like the fact that Peavey is going tonight, it should be another strong outing for a Giant's starter.

Yeah, I like the pitching match-up for SF tonight, too. It's an odd thing, but if one looks at the regular season record of the SF starters, Vogelsong @ 8-13, Hudson @ 9-13, Peavy @7-13, and Bumgarner @18-10, one would think this was a team that had to miss the playoffs. According to the announcers last night, this is the only team in MLB history to enter the WS with 3 starters @ 4 or more games under .500, yet it would be hard to find a staff with more of a veteran backbone that is suited to deal with playoff pressure. I rather like the experience factor that SF pitchers bring to this dance and it is why I think this series will go to SF. -- Al

TV ratings for game 1 were apparently a winner for Fox (compared to the ratings for their regular programming a week earlier) but significantly below last year's World Series Game 1. Ratings were 8.5 (14 share) vs. 9.8/15 for last year's Game 1.

Watched about 4 innings. After KC failed to capitalize in the third, I knew the game was over.

Will probably miss tonight as I have to watch Champions League (soccer).

I can only imagine the relieve TV execs must have felt when SF beat St. Louis. Can't imagine the ratings if St. Louis were playing KC for the title. No knock on St. Louis or KC but only reflects what I feel would have been a series of very limited appeal outside of Kansas and Missouri. I'm a baseball addict and I'm not sure how much of a KC vs St. Loo series I would have watched. To be honest, in terms of my team interests, I think a Baltimore vs Washington series would have had the same limited appeal to much of the country, although it would have been a smash hit in Md/DC/Va.:wink2: -- Al

Will Cinderella turn back into a pumpkin tonight? If the Royals lose Game 2, it will be a sweep or at most a five game series. This could turn into a version of the 2003 WS where the Astros came from nowhere and beat the Cards in the NLCS, only to get gobsmacked by the White Sox in the WS.
