Baseball 2014 (2 Viewers)

Had to work 12 hours today and missed all of the game, sooo congrats to KC, any team that can whip the number 1, and number 2 seed deserves all the credit in the world, as far as 2014 I look back on this season and this thread with alot of fond memories and good times along with some rough patches as well, overall (for me anyway) it has been the most enjoyable baseball season since the O's won it all in 83, that's 31 years ago!!!! there has been some good years along the way for the O's but this season was just exciting in so many ways, Congrats to the Orioles for a awesome season!!!!! bring on the Series/Hot stove reports, before ya know it, the snow/cold will have come and gone and the fresh green grass of Spring will be in the air and 2015 baseball will be in full bloom...Sammy

Sammy is doing his best to be the hero, he's wearing those lucky drawers of his; not a pretty sight, but he gets an A for effort............

All a man can do is try his best, guess my lucky drawers just couldn't do it this year^&grin...Sammy

Al/Sammy and O's Fans:

The O's should hold their heads up high. No, they did not win it all but only the Royals and Giants/Cardinals will go further. As others have pointed out, the goal is to win the World Series, but only 1 team can do that. Being part of the final four is not half bad either, there are many teams that would have loved to get that far.

With a tip of the Cap to the Orioles and their fans,
-Jason

Hi Sammy,
Loved your post all except that green grass part, I'm kinda looking forward to not cutting the grass for at least a little while :wink2:. regards Gebhard

Thanks, Jason.
It looks like KC vs SF for all the marbles. Sf has put the Cards in a very rough position and I think that SF will probably finish them behind Bumgarner tonight. Thank goodness SF looks to be moving on. I don't think I would have watched much of a WS with KC v St. Loo. The Giants will give me a rooting interest and a reason to watch. One caveat, if KC's pitcher Jeremy Guthrie should get a chance to pitch in the series, I will root for him to do well, as I have been a fan of his since he was an Oriole. And all bets are off if he pitches in Game 7. Go SF! -- Al

Barring a three game meltdown, looks like Giants/Royals.

The Giants do all the little things right, classic NL smallball, this is the sort of team that will give the Royals a run for their money, they scored 3 runs last night with great baserunning and taking advantage of mental errors in the field by the Cardinals.

We'll see what happens tonight...........

Arrived home from California last night so only caught the last two innings of the Royals win. They've grabbed the brass ring and are not letting go. They have home field also, which doesn't matter to them as half their wins have been on the road.

Although the Os, Angels and Nationals had good seasons, unless you win the pennant and get into the WS, few will remember them, other than their fans who will rue what might have been. In 1988 and 2006 the Mets made it to the NLCS, only to lose. The Mets were probably the best team each of those years but have nothing to show for it and fans remember the 1988 team losing game 4 when they had a lead in the 9th and a 2-1 lead in the series and Bleeping Beltran taking strike 3 from Adam Wainright in game 7 in 2006. Nothing to show. They still haven't recovered from that. At least the Mets won the pennant in 2000.

I'm sure the Os and their fans will be pondering what might have been for years to come, if not forever.

Nothing to show.

Very true, Brad. 2014 were very successful seasons for the O's and Nats, but, as you say, ultimately disappointing for what could have been. But that is baseball through and through. Fans learn to take the good from any given season and remember it, while dealing with the ultimate failure of not winning the series. Because team failure in baseball is almost guaranteed (except for the one winner), I find myself most interested in individuals and their accomplishments on my favorite teams. I rue the team failures while immersing myself in the stats and memories of the individuals. Like most fans, I am always looking forward to Spring Training and the promise of that one golden season.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

This is a great post and it's all 100% true.

The Red Sox lost in the ALCS in 1988 and 1990 to the A's; I don't look back fondly on those seasons, who cares, not to mention they got steamrolled in both, swept by the mighty A's, who then went on to lose to the Dodgers and Reds in the WS.

In 1999 the Red Sox got to the ALCS and lost to the MFY's 4-1, then again in 2003 when they lost in 7 thanks to Aaron @#$%ing Boone, who hit a whopping .176 in that series, blew out his knee in the off season playing basketball and never played for the MFY's again.

I don't have fond memories of any of those seasons, they ended with a loss.

As far as the Orioles; great for them, they won the division as the Sox and Yankees both had down years. I have a feeling both are going to spend like mad this off season, especially the Yankees as they've missed the playoffs for two strait seasons, when was the last time that happened.

They were saying on sports talk radio yesterday the Sox are in on Lester, Shields and Sandoval, are also in discussions with the Phillies regarding Cole Hamels, rumblings are the Yankees are in on Scherzer and maybe Andrew Miller as a bullpen guy.

Imagine a rotation of Lester/Shields/Hamels/Buckholz/Kelly, yikes, talk about all in and yeah, I know, the games are played on the field and not on paper, yada, yada, yada, but that is one stacked rotation.

As Brad said, you've got to take advantage of the opportunities as they present themselves; 31 years since the last time the O's got to the World Series.

That's a lifetime in basball terms.

If the Sox have a rotation like that, game over. The joke could be on the As as they will have nothing to show for that trade and the principals will be playing for the Sox. As fans will be furious, to put it mildly.

Closers never seem to do well in tie games; they seemingly need a crisis to do well.

That was a no doubter! Shades of Bobby Thomson. "The Giants Win the Pennant! The Giants win the Pennant. They're going crazy. They're going crazy!" Russ Hodges must be going crazy ^&cool

Should be a great World Series.

Ishikawa's hit had a lot of giddy-up to it. Left the field fast. First 2010, then 2012, now 2014. Makes perfect sense to me. Go Giants! -- Al

Congratulations to you and the Giants, Jason. Your boys did it. Now to get the pitching staff a few days rest. Bumgarner will get his 4 days for Game 1 and the pen will get some well earned rest. -- Al
