Al:

I also saw that Uggla is the highest paid player on the Braves roster, they are paying almost all of his $13mil+ salary for him to play for the Nats.

Ouch.
True enough. He is very popular with the other players. Very intense and focused. With our injuries and all the position juggling, he has been the right man in the right place. -- Al

I don't know details but obviously Uggla was a terrible fit for the Braves. I'm sure they got the best deal they could for him, and still, very much ouch. Well, the Braves are readying themselves for the new stadium. They want the team that takes the field when it opens to be very competitive. Should be quite the build up.

Going to the Sox/MFY game tonight, have tickets up on the green monster; if there is a God in heaven, ARoid will not hit the home run that ties him with the Say Hey Kid. If it lands near me, expect it to be tossed back onto the field.

Can't believe this clown is going to hit more home runs than Mays; what a crime and a sin.

ARoid...hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...................

You don't have to worry about it; he's sitting tonight.

Good; don't want to see that lipstick wearing clown strutting around the bases after hitting a steroid fueled home run to tie Mays...........................

The big pitching match-up for the night is about to start. It's Super Max against Super Matt in Flushing tonight. It should be a quick, low-scoring game. Play ball!^&grin^&grin -- Al

As advertised, so far. Mets lead 1-0 after 6. Each pitcher has allowed 4 hits and 1 walk. Harvey has thrown 86 pitches, 56 strikes. Scherzer has thrown 84 pitches, 56 strikes. Can't get more evenly matched. Only Cuddyer's Hr is the difference. -- Al

Mets win 4-0. Both starters went 7 and Scherzer still trailed 1-0, then the Nats bullpen took over with predictable results, thus the final score. Well pitched and fast (2:29) but the Nats Achilles heal, the bullpen, made a comeback impossible. Brilliant job by Harvey. Scherzer is a candidate for 'hard-luck' pitcher so far this season. He is now 1-3 with an ERA of 1.26. In his 3 losses he has given up 3 earned runs, total. The Nats have scored 2 runs, total, in the 3 losses. Scherzer is as good as he ever was with 5 quality starts in 5 games, averaging 7+ innings, but no run support will beat you every time. -- Al

He just pinch hit and hit a HR in the 8th inning. Maybe George caught the ball!

Interesting side note to the A-rod Hr tonight. It was his first PH Hr of his career. -- Al

Much like the character from A Bronx Tale, you really should consider changing your screen name to Mush; the MILISECOND you posted this, I figured sure as **** Aroid would hit a pinch hit home run.

And he did.

On a 3-0 room service meatball that landed in the section to my right.

Truth be told, I think it's great for baseball that a swell guy like Aroid, a prince of a guy, a humanitarian and a great ambassador of the game passes a bum like Willie Mays.................:rolleyes2:.

What a sin; a cheater passes IMO perhaps the greatest player in MLB history. He hit for average, power, had speed and a very good glove and he played into his 40's.

All without PED's.

All one has to do is check out and look at past ( 1980's and 2000;s )baseball card and team photos to pick out the majority of the players ( weight lifter bods )who were taking stuff. Even a bunch of your guys, George..( still waiting for Ortiz's deferred answer to his failed drug test.

Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, in a first-person essay as "editor at large" on Playerstribune.com, reiterated that he has never "knowingly used steroids" and said "hell, yes," he belongs in the Hall of Fame.
..The drugging was not illegal, was by the ownerships' silence, encouraged, and had fans' enthusiastic approval. Selective memory, revised history, and feigned ignorance by MLB cannot now create heros or bums..Not even the" big poppy "and his Boston hero status can wipe away his stain..We all have our player's past and present crosses to bear ,in this Greek tragedy. Still very early but as we look at the standings in the AL I think we can safely say that no one would have predicted the 3 division leaders that we have. Despite their season last year, I didn't think KC had the ability to repeat it, yet they have been better than last year so far. No way I would ever have thought Houston was capable of what they are doing, although in my defense I really don't know anything about them or their players. I just have never followed them. Are they this good or is it just an early season surge? Same for the NYY's as I didn't think they could be this competitive. I didn't think they would be as bad as everyone was predicting but I didn't think they had the pitching and I didn't think A-rod and Tex would be able to contribute the way they have to this point. So, surprises all around, even if it is early.
As for the NL, the only thing that has really surprised me so far is the mostly atrocious play by the Nats. Here again I knew the Nats had a good team in place going into the off-season and was very enthusiastic about the up-coming year, but then the wheeling and dealing started and the Nats blew up a very good bullpen. The Nats have had trouble fielding and hitting, but that has showed signs of coming around. Not so the bullpen. That needs to be fixed or all the pre-season predictions are going to be very tough to fulfill. The Mets are a minor surprise although I knew their starting pitching was top-flight. Also a tad surprised by the Cubs good start. Elsewhere, slow starts are the order of the day for many teams that were favored, as in Seattle. One thing for sure and that is the remaining 140ish games are going to present many more surprises, and changes. -- Al

I agree with Michael here. The reason Ortiz gets a free pass is because he's a likable person, in comparison to the likes of A-rod (and Bonds).

As likable as he may be and disregarding steroids for a minute, I don't think Ortiz will be voted into the Hall. He's a good player but I don't believe the voters will see him as Hall caliber. Moreover, there is still a bias against DHs.

The shame of A-rod and Bonds is that they would have made the Hall had they not used steroids. They would have been considered two of the greatest to ever play. Now, they're just in purgatory. I probably have a better chance to get in the Hall than they do.

I like how every time Aroid gets mentioned, Michael mentions Ortiz.

Some sort of tit for tat, what's good for the goose is good for the gander, our guy cheats, so does yours.

Tell you what; when Ortiz gets suspended for a year, then we can talk.

And your point about Aroid and Bonds is spot on; without drugs, they are two great players, two HOF players. Because they got caught cheating, they will never get in the HOF. It's all about money; if they can make 15 million a year hitting 300/30/100, they'll make 30 million hitting 320/50/140, plain and simple.

As far as Ortiz; yeah, he probably won't get in the HOF, but if it wasn't for him, the 2004 and 2013 WS titles would be in New York and Detroit respectively, so I'm thrilled with the two titles in addition to the 2007 one.

HOF or not.

Well so far this season, the Red Sox either lose 12-8 or 3-2, no timely hitting when it matters, no starting pitching when it matters.

It's early yet, but this could be another long season.

Have to give the MFY's credit, they have a lights out bullpen.

As it's constituted right now, this Red Sox team blows..........................

Lights out bullpen is right. Miller and Betances have 24 appearances between them with 27 innings pitched. They have allowed 9 total hits and 46 K's. And 0 (zero, none, nada) runs of any sort. Not too shabby. -- Al
