In other news, the Brewers just called and are calling me up. I'll be the starting pitcher for the game on Saturday.

Good thing I had a no-trade clause. I might be the only one left on the team after today!

Be careful Pete. Shannon might trade you to George for Larry and several K & C sets to be named later {eek3}

Mets are going for it. Cespedes, Johnson, Uribe, and Clippard recent acquisitions through trade are great additions. I have one question; what is it about Cespedes that keeps him playing musical teams? Isn't this his 4th team in 2 years? He can swing the bat and field the ball, so what's the issue? -- Al

Brad, hope you're watching the game. Harvey is dealing bb's. Has a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of 5 and has a perfect game to this point. -- Al

Don't know how this will end but the Met's manager blew this. Stayed with Harvey too long when it was obvious he was gassed at the end of 7. Harvey gutted through the 8th and almost got out of it. Why trade for Clippard and not use him in the tailor made situation for him? -- Al

I guess Terry was trying to get him throught the 8th as his pitch count wasn't that high and maybe he was hoping to use Clippard in the 9th. That's gone by the board. This will probably end badly.

Brad, I was doing some counting. This is the Mets game #103 and the Nats game #101. Both teams have played 38 games this season where they have scored 2 or fewer runs. The Mets are 6-32 while the Nats are 10-28. This one looks to be #39 for both. Which way will it go? {sm2} -- Al

Big Tex having another monster game for the NYY's. Has 2 Hr's and 6 Ribis. Gives him 28 and 73 respectively this year. Cripes. {eek3} -- Al

This way, 7-32 and 10-29. Well done, Mets.:salute:: -- Al

Not sure what the Yankees were thinking, by not improving their starting staff before the deadline. CC is near an automatic loss, Pineda on DL, Nova a tired arm, Evoldi, their ace gives up avg. 10 hits a game, Tanaka not consistent, Warren, who was effective starter ,put in BP, etc. etc. And now their #1 pitching prospect, has been rushed up to be an emergency starter.. If George S. was still alive, the team would have been more actice and pro active. Michael

I hope they give you the week of OTSN off, the show won't be the same without you.

A few years ago, Pete saved my life as it was just me and my 85 year old Dad at the show and Pete graciously helped my hump all my merchandise from the hotel to my van; I might add the ramp is UPHILL, a very steep incline at that.

He was dog tired as was I, but he helped me nevertheless.

It's things like that I will never, ever forget..........................

George...glad to help. Just don't let Brad give you (or Shannon) any ideas. I much prefer going home with her when its all said and done.

I fell asleep and missed the end of the game. Oh, well. The differences above account for the Nats current lead. However, with the Nats having their whole team almost back, I think they will soon move away, leaving the Mets to battle for the WC, which won't be easy. Pirates are probably not catchable and Giants are playing terrific. A positive result for this team would be finishing above .500. I don't think they can sign Cespedes so they will need to do something in the off season. Cuddeyer is a total bust. Now, he will be a bench player when he gets back from DL.

Just watched the replay of Wilmer's HR. Two days after he was almost traded, he gives the Mets one of the biggest hits of the year. You see something new in baseball that you can't imagine. As Casey said "you could look it up."

Duda is super hot right now. I didn't think he had it in him. I think some of these players are realizing that if they don't produce, someone else will be playing.

As the late great Bob Murphy used to say "fasten your seatbelt!"

This is Williams' fault. Why would you walk a man to get to the hottest hitter on the team, match-up or not? The one guy who has hit and hurt you all night and they walk the man ahead of him on purpose? I believe I call that stupid baseball, especially since they just traded for Papelbon to set up the 8th and 9th innings so they could put Storen in the 8th. What is Williams thinking? Another fine job of mismangement. Really beginning to wonder about Williams. -- Al

I'm not sure I could fault him for pitching to Duda; you have to respect what Cespedes could do. He came alive in the loss to the Padres on Wed but before that he looked in a funk all season and who expected him to go opposite field. Not pitching Storen. You're probably right there.

Brilliant pitching by the Mets in the sweep of the Nats, absolutely shut the Nats down. Nats have now played 103 games and scored 2 or fewer runs in 41 of them. Talk about frustration. Watching them is agony as the Nats pitchers are doomed if they give up any runs at all, the way things have been going. They are now 10-31 in the games where they score 2 or fewer and 44-18 in games where 3 or more are scored. Hmmm, I believe I have uncovered the Nat's problem.:rolleyes2: Mets are in good shape for the final 2 months with that pitching staff and schedule. Nat's, on the other hand, look clueless and overmatched. -- Al

Al,

I wouldn't make that much of the sweep. Obviously, that is not fun but it's only three games and there is a whole lot of baseball to go. If Nats win the next three and the Mets lose the next three, well, then we're right back where we started. Riding a lot of emotion, I'm curious to see how the Mets do against the Marlins (never easy). It wouldn't surprise me if they lost the series. Tonight's game is crucial in that respect.

The Angels have hit a rough patch -- swept by the Astros and the Dodgers -- and my son is ready to give up on the whole season (break up the team he says) but they're actually leading the WC and I tell them they will eventually right the ship. I'd be surprised if the Nats don't do that also.
