Baseball 2015 (1 Viewer)

I did not start this war of RS users vs NYY users...:redface2:Michael

Right; you only mention Ortiz and Ramirez in every post.

Your hands are clean....................:rolleyes2:

Have fun rooting for two cheaters in the playoffs, Aroid and horseface...................{eek3}

Just don't act holier than thou. Steroids was a problem for ALL of baseball. The following is from a 2007 article in the New York Times:

"According to the Mitchell report, [Roger] Clemens used steroids in the latter half of the 2000 season. Neagle played for the Yankees in the latter half of that season and, according to Mitchell, used human growth hormone.

[Denny] Neagle won four successive starts from Aug. 27 through Sept. 12. Clemens, following Neagle in the rotation, won three of four starts. Three times they won consecutive games. Their efforts helped the Yankees increase their division lead from three games to nine.

The Yankees, who lost 13 of their last 15 games, won the division by 2 ½ games over the Red Sox. Without the performances of Neagle and Clemens, who knows what would have happened? The wild card wasn’t available to the Yankees because the second-place teams in the other divisions had better records."

Who knows? Maybe the Mets then win the World Series, but they were tainted too.

GEE WHIZ, and here I thought the Amazins were as clean as the driven white powder that a number of them were snorting...WOW! mICHAEL

This past week, the Astros got Kasmir from the A's; Rosenthal is reporting the Royals have acquired Cueto from the Reds.

Wow, what a deal that is for them; so nice to see two small market teams going for it.

Rumors are swirling the Nationals are in the market for Papelbon and the MFY's are in the market for Hamels.

Please MFY's; overpay and ship some of your young talent for Hamels, who'd pee down his leg in the AL.

If the season ended today, the Twins and Astros would play in the wild card game, with the winner facing the Royals, while the MFY's would play the red hot Angels.

The rumors about Papelbon to the Nats have been swirling down here for a while. Papelbon would be used as an 8th inning bridge to Storen, a bridge the Nats badly need, ever since the ill-advised trade of Clippard. No real hint as to who the Nats would give up to get him, though. Cueto to the Royals would be a clincher for the Royals. -- Al

Papelbon said he does not want to be traded if he isn't going to be the closer.

Cueto to the Royals puts them over the top, glad for the fans in KC that ownership is showing a commitment to winning.

They are a young, exciting team to watch, build the old fashioned way, through the farm system. Would be pulling for them in the WS vs any team other than the Giants or Cardinals......................for me, it's Red Sox #1, Giants #1A, Cardinals #3.

MLB is now cleansed..Everyone important says so. With Big Poppy now in his drug induced declining years, and Ramirez gone, all the vestiges of the RS World Series cheater years can now be washed away from the record books. And high time those phony achievements be forgotton, and the clean RS go back to their cellar dwelling days. If Poppy and Rammy had not been juicing, what a waste all these past seasons of actually following the RS would have truly been.

I missed this award winner earlier; especially like this part "all the vestiges of the RS World Series cheater years can now be washed away from the record books. And high time those phony achievements be forgotten"..........................

You want to play that game; wipe out the 2009 WS as ARoid carried that team to a title, the cheater that he is.

Wipe out any WS title who's team had Clemens or Pettite on it, they are both cheaters.

Let's forget those phony achievements too.

Tit for tat, anything I can do, you can do better.

You are one in a million, I'll give you that.

Let's get back to talking baseball; yesterday, Pedro Martinez was elected to the baseball hall of fame.

One of the greatest pitchers ever, got to see him pitch lights out for five years or so in a Red Sox uniform.

So there you go.....................

Hey Brad, congratulations on the Mets picking up Tyler Clippard. He's the Nats ex-set-up man who did so well before going to Oakland during the off-season. It was an extremely stupid move by the Nats as their bullpen hasn't performed very well with Clippard gone. Hope he does well with you all. -- Al

Al,

It's a trade I'm not sure I understand. The Mets now have four closers on their staff. I think someone has to go. They might be worrying about Familia; he hasn't looked good since the All Star break and has blown two saves. Fortunately, the Mets won both those games.

Yeah, he's a real class act, Marietta's finest, such as it is.

O's walk off in the 11th with a Wieters Hr. Victory #3 in a row and the 4th game in a row with absolutely excellent starting pitching. Twice the starters have allowed 0 runs and only a total of 3 runs allowed in the 4 games, even if they only won 3 of them. It's great to see the starting pitching doing their job and hopefully (for the umpteenth time) it is the start of a surge. Back to .500 and hope is returning.:wink2: -- Al

Brad, do you even know where Marietta, PA. is? Google it and you will find all 18 of us just ooooze class. Besides, this is between me and George. Who made you the great buttzitski. Just mind your Mets in their shot at the playoffs. That ought be enough drama for you..Michael

Michael,

I know your memory is not what it used to be as we discussed Marietta several years ago. Otherwise, how would I know. Well, they say memory is the first thing to go....

Al/Sammy:

Class move by the Oriole's fans giving Markakis a standing ovation today. Great to see a player from their past success get his due.

Jason, I like to think the ovation was in part fan recognition that the O's goofed by not keeping Markakis. Rf has been a hole all season for the O's. Markakis may not be the offensive player he used to be but he is better both offensively and certainly defensively than anyone the O's have tried to use in Rf as a replacement this season (not withstanding the limited use of Chris Davis in Rf). The Braves currently have 2 ex-O's and 1 ex-Nat on their roster that I root for except when playing the O's or Nats. -- Al

Some of these players are complete morons. Mejia was suspended for 80 games for using PEDs. He's now been suspended again for a whole year for doing it again! Unbelievable. That's probably why they traded for Clippard; they knew it was coming.

Yeah, that kind of clears that mystery up. :rolleyes2: -- Al

Reports are that the Papelbon to the Nats is a done deal. It will mean demoting Storen from the closer position, again, for like the 3rd time in 4 seasons. Storen will be a team player, as he has proved in the past, but I seriously doubt he or others on the team will be very happy. Storen has done outstanding work as a closer but his meltdown in game 5 of the 2012 playoffs against the Cardinals has apparently has left a permanent black mark against him in management's eyes. Storen has 29 saves this season and it can't do his self-confidence much good to get replaced as closer when he has been pitching so well. If Storen can live with this slap in the face, the Nats might do alright. -- Al

Royals got Zobrist; man are they going for it, good for them, good for their fans.

Read a report today that the Phillies are taking the best offer for Hamels, we'll see where he lands.

The Red Sox traded Victorino to the Angels for some tomato can I've never heard of.

Thanks for the memories Vic, that home run in game 6 of the 2013 ALCS will forever be how Red Sox fans remember you, we wouldn't have won the WS without you...................

George:

In an earlier post I mentioned how nice it was that the O's fans gave Markakis a standing ovation upon his return to Camden Yards.

Hats off to Victorino too. In his press conference he said he would no longer use the song "Three Little Birds" as his at-bat music out of respect for Boston's fans. That is a pure class move.

He got pretty emotional in his farewell press conference, felt bad for him, guess he really enjoyed his time here.

Last night the Red Sox retired Pedro's #45 in a nice pre game ceremony. They trotted out some of his old teammates, plus Rice, Yaz, Fisk, Eck and Tiant. It was pretty special; have to give the Red Sox credit, they do these sort of things right even if they can't field a competitive team to save their lives.

Then his old battery mate Varitek came out and Pedro threw out the first pitch; would have been a nice touch if they brought Karim Garcia out of mothballs, dressed him in a MFY uniform and let Pedro drill him again.....................that brawl in the 2003 ALCS was pretty special, poor Zim charged Pedro like a wild bull and got slammed to the ground, he bounced like a beach ball a couple of times....................
