Interesting article about Tommy John Surgery, The Scars of the Game.
Interesting article. I didn't realize the surgery was as common as 25%. I also hadn't realized that deGrom and Matz have had the surgery. I know Harvey has, so that leaves Syndergaard, or has he had it too? I guess you can say that the Mets have a bionic pitching staff. It seems that the affected pitcher comes back as good as new, in most cases. -- Al

Trouble in Metland: Harvey missed a mandatory meeting this morning. Whichever way you cut it, this doesn't sound good. Let's hope this is not another Gooden or CC situation.

No Uribe in the Divisional Series.

He apparently overslept, got caught in tunnel traffic heading out to Queens (he lives in Manhattan), called the manager, etc., etc. I assume his teammates will beat him up and there will be a fine. The sound you're hearing is Mets fans and the Mets organization exhaling.

Two phrases that fix any situation: 'I overslept' and 'I forgot'. They can be used interchangeably and often, with equal success. -- Al

When asked if Harvey's absence was selfish and unprofessional, Terry Collins told a reporter how he felt.

"That's your perception. That's not everybody's. That could just be your perception. Another perception from somebody else could be that he's a *******, you know? The perception of somebody else might be you know what, he was out partying. There's all sorts of things that guys are talking about. That's your opinion. You're allowed to write whatever you want. My perception is he ****ed up. I'll take care of it. He's going to have to deal with his teammates, which is a bigger issue than dealing with anybody else. We'll take care of it."

"I overslept"...............yeah ok. I've got a cell phone alarm I set every night, plus the old fashioned clock radio alarm that I set as a back up.

When I travel to shows, I also ask for a wake up call, so that's three alarms.

I haven't "overslept" since Christ was in a crib, but hey, that's me; a responsible adult and all..................

first game I watched all year...

glad for the city of Houston...

never understood home field ticket owners booing their own team...

does Houston have a chance against KC?

love the bird man dance when he bats...

that's hilarious...

and then they boo him when he strikes out...

Well, so much for the potential subway series.:rolleyes2: NYY's picked the wrong time to go into a slump, losing 7 of their last 8, including tonight. You don't want to go into the playoffs on the down swing. -- Al

Dear Astros,

Thanks.

With the Yanks gone, I have no AL teams left to root for. Will have to see how the NL shakes out, but I have an interest in the Mets, Cubs, or Cards. Sure wish the Yanks had stayed in. -- Al

in the 6th inning...

when Gregorious broke up the double play by sliding into the Astro's SS's legs covering 2nd base...
the announcer said it was illegal...
that the slide must begin before the runner reaches the base...

it seemed like a dirty play...
but I have seen it before many times...

is there a penalty for this...
an infraction...
a fine...
a reprimand...
anything?

I know that his interference may have resulted in an automatic out of himself...

but he was out anyway...

so does the League allow this...maybe causing an injury...or do they issue fines?

They looked dead tonight. What has been happening the last couple of weeks was no aberration.

Mets looked dead or disinterested the last week. Let's hope it's not a harbinger of things to come.

Thankful that I didnt waste any sleep to stay up and watch the game over here in Poland. Since I have no other teams to root for its on to the Spring and waiting to see who the Yankees dump this winter. A lot of work to be done if they are ever going to get back in it.

Dave,
As I watched that game last night, I honestly thought "Who are these guys"; I remember ten, twenty years ago, I could rattle off the entire Yankees line up, now I don't have a clue.

You live by the home run, you die by it, not to mention Horseface and ARoid got hot and carried the team for awhile, Horseface is hurt once again and ARoid cooled off, he's on the wrong side of 40 now.

They have a great back end of the bullpen, they need help on the front end of the rotation and in the infield. Beltran is what, 110, how much longer can he play?

Interesting times ahead................

Although the year ended poorly, they defied all expectations as the over under was 83 or 84 and nobody expected Arod to do anything. Obviously losing Texeira hurt. Bringing up Bird and Severino were pluses and they do have some good prospects on the farm. They need to rebuild a little bit and get younger. They may face some bad times unless they go out and spend big money.

There were 2 huge surprises for me this season. Number one was the failure of the Nats and number two was the success of the NYY's. Yanks may be one and done but they did a fantastic job all year long, against ALL expectations. Their fans should be proud of them. -- Al
