CC Sabathia is 6-10 on the year. He got the win in the NYY's 4-1 win over Boston tonight, the WC clincher for them. Sabathia is now 3-0 against Boston this season. -- Al

3 games left and the AL East is a dogfight for 3rd place, or 4th place, or last place. Right now, it's all the same thing. -- Al

Congrats to Brad and his Mets, Tom and his Bucs and Michael, Al and Louis and their Yankees as all have clinched.

I don't have a dog in this fight as both the Red Sox and Giants are out, but I'm pulling for the Cardinals (best organization in baseball), Royals (their fans deserve it, plus one of by best OTSN customers Brad and his two sons are Royals fans), Angels (for our Brad's son), Pirates as they are Fam-ily, Rangers for our friend on the other side of the pond, Dodgers (yuck), Toronto (sorry, too many band wagon yahoo fans), Cubs (sorry; Maddon and Theo...........no thanks to that), Mets (sorry Brad, 1986 is the wound that will never heal) and the Yankees (1978, Bucky Dent, 2003 Aaron Boone; need I say more) in that order.

No matter what, October baseball is awesome, so I'll be watching....................

Yup, a big congrats to all of the forum members whose teams made it.

I am standing with Brad and his Mets. He (among others, Al, George, Sammy etc.) was right there with me last year as the Giants won it all.

Arrieta got his 21st, going 7 scoreless as the Cubs won 4-0. His ERA is down to 1.82 on the year. -- Al
Arrieta had his final regular season start tonight and it went just like all his other starts since the All-Star break. He went 6 shutout innings, allowing 2 hits with 0 walks and 7 k's, lowering his ERA to 1.77 and winning his 22nd game, against 6 losses. His second half was just incredible. In 15 starts, he had 15 QS, went 12-1, allowed 0 earned runs in 10 starts, had an ERA of 0.75 and allowed only 55 hits in 107.1 innings. In his one loss since the All-Star break, the Cubs were shutout and then he won 11 in a row to finish the season. I don't know if it's enough to win the Cy Young with the season Greinke has had (their numbers are incredibly close in all catagories) but he sure deserves recognition for his second half and dragging the Cubs to the playoffs with little help from the rest of the Cub's starting pitchers. Great job, Jake!:salute:: -- Al

George, George, you would pick Bergman over me, that's sad, truly sad.

Jason and Al, thanks.

Some injury concerns going into the series: Matz has a back problem so he will probably be a no show (Colon will take his place) and Uribe is still hurting. Clippard has not looked effective in September. I would probably make Addison Reed the 8th inning guy but Terry will probably not change at this point.

Looking at Clip's numbers, they're not too far out of line with his career averages, but his strikeouts are down and with him being in 68 games this season (following 5 years averaging 74 games), I'm betting he's wearing down to a degree. He has appeared in 31 of the Mets 60 games since he came over in the trade, a pretty heavy workload. Wrong time of year, but he needs rest. -- Al

Light that baby up! One of the great comebacks I've seen all season as the Halos come off the mat, down by 4 runs, to beat the Rangers 11-10. The Rangers bullpen was awful. It at least staves off elimination until the final day of the season. Now, if only the Dbacks could do something against the Astros tonight.

The crowd was stunned, to say the least. It was beautiful to watch.

I've got the Halos up there for your son............and you; now all they have to do is make it...............

Angels just won't go away. Tomorrow should be fun. -- Al

Mad Max Scherzer just completed his 2nd no-hitter of the season, beating the Mets 2-0 and fanning 17, 9 of the last 10 hitters by strikeout. It was a totally dominating performance. It gives the Nats their 3rd no-no in a calendar year. The only base runner was put on through error. Max is a hit batsman and an error from 2 perfect games. A disappointing year for the Nats but a special accomplishment for Max. -- Al

Impressive performance from Scherzer this year: two no hitters this year.

A pretty pathetic performance from the Mets. Relatively meaningless in the overall scheme of things although it probably costs them the home field advantage against the Dodgers.

However, the putrid way the offense has been performing this week is inexcusable and should be a cause for concern. Unless they turn it around it will be three and out.

O's only need to win the last game of the year to finish .500, and a finishing sweep of the NYY's. Not what they were hoping for this season, but .500 would be a decent finish considering all the ups and downs of the year. Machado is a beast. -- Al

By the numbers, Max Scherzer has the 2 best pitched games this year and 3 of the top 9. All 3 were complete game shutouts, with 2 of them being the no-hitters. The other game was a 1-hitter. 27 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 43 strikeouts. As mentioned earlier, he was a hit batsman and a fielding error from 2 perfect games. Although his 14-12 record is mediocre at first glance, he had career highs in IP's, strikeouts, CG's, shutouts, and career lows in ERA, walks, and WHIP. His overall numbers were superior to his 2013 Cy Young year. Too bad the Nats didn't give him a little support earlier in the season.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I read this morning that it's considered one of the best no hitters ever, by some statistical measurement.

It's an extraordinary accomplishment but Scherzer seemed to disappear in August and September when needed by his team.

Interestingly, the Mets and Dodgers were both no hit twice this year and the Pirates were on the receiving end of his other no hitter. The Mets were no hit in 69 and we know what happened that year.

A larger cause for concern is how the Mets offense has played lately, especially at home. It may be a good thing that they're opening up in LA because prior to the last series in Philly they were something like 21-3 or 22-4 on the road. Offense in October tends to be at a premium anyway so these hitless wonders shoukd feel right at home.

At least one team whose name ends in "ets"'won today. It's a good start {eek3}

The Mets-Nats final series was one of outstanding pitching. Mets tune-up for the playoffs went well as they 2-hit the Nats and bet them 1-0 in the last game of the regular season. Appropriately, Clippard got the win and the Nats bullpen took the loss. Next up for the Mets...LA in LA. Next up for the Nats...housecleaning! -- Al

Disappointing end to the Angels season but the season wasn't lost today. It was lost in August when they forgot to hit. That 8-7 loss to to the As on Wednesday didn't help either.

The Yankees are losing, if they finish with the same record as the Astros, the Astros win the tiebreaker and would host the play in game, but the Astros are losing too. If both scores hold up, the Yankees back into hosting the play in game, with the winner going to Kansas City to face the Royals, while the Rangers travel to Toronto to play the Jays.

In the NL, the Cubs travel to Pittsburgh for the play in game, with the winner going to St Louis, while the Mets travel to LA to face the Dodgers.

This **** is going to get real this week, can't wait...........................
