Baseball 2015 (3 Viewers)

In the games that I saw where he pitched against the Mets he just pitched well enough to lose.

I just saw the video of the Harper Papelbon fight. I can't believe they haven't disciplined or released Papelbon. Imagine if someone had grabbed your best player by the throat -- think Jeter or Trout -- they would be sent packing in a heartbeat.

Or maybe he should exercise his newly created Tom Brady rights and claim his due process was violated because MLB didn't specifically inform him beforehand that choking someone could result in a suspension. Much ado about nothing. They obviously don't like each other. Simply because Harper is a star shouldn't mean he gets preferential treatment if he is otherwise bring a jerk. Only the players know that.

Just get rid of Papelbon and make Storen the closer again. Otherwise, teams will hold up the Nats for Storen. You just won't get equal value.

Papelbon was the instigator, pure and simple, and Harper, while only 22 and sometimes his behavior has reflected that, there has been no problem with him this season. As for Papelbon, the Nats know where their bread is buttered, from ownership down to the last bench player, and it's not with Papelbon. -- Al

Brad, I would agree with this but I don't believe Storen will be with the Nats next year. The Nats ownership/management have treated him badly, totally disrespected him on numerous occasions, and I believe he's had enough of it. That said, money talks, and talk walks. We'll see how it shakes out soon enough. Nats should NEVER have let Clippard go over a few million dollars. The whole bullpen structure collapsed after that brilliant deal.:rolleyes2: -- Al

O's lost last night and with Houston's win they also got eliminated from the playoffs. Now it's a fight for dignity and a .500 record. Nats and O's keep mirroring each other's success and failure. Both made the playoffs in 2012 and 2014 and both missed in 2013 and 2015. Now, when exactly does spring training start?:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Jason, the Giants are on life-support but they're still breathing. Now, Bums needs to best Kershaw tonight and it'll start to get really interesting. ^&grin -- Al

The Dodgers magic number is one so even if Giants sweep, they have to hope that they win their remainder of the games and Dodgers lose all theirs. Mets have 2 game lead on Dodgers for home field although it's more like 3 since the Mets won the season series. Keep it up G men ^&grin

From the Department of Bad Omens: The Nats have removed Papelbon's jerseys from the team store. -- Al

I have held onto a slim hope for a while now and am currently in a "one game at a time mode". It is not over yet and as Brad mentioned, the Giants are also helping out the Mets along the way.

The AL WC is tight and getting tighter by the day and now the Division may be up for grabs. Rangers lost and Angels and Astros, plus Twins won.

Angels and Astros are tied in the loss column with Twins one game behind but with the Rangers loss, the Angels and Astros are only two out of the Division lead in the loss column. After the Angels finish with the As, they play the Rangers in the last 4 games of the season. Improbable as it may sound, the Angels could wind up winning the Division.

The problem for the Angels is that Weaver and Shoemaker are ailing, which is why they signed Matt Latos yesterday, and they're without Joe Smith, the set up man, and Huston Street, the closer, due to injuries, although one or both of them might -- and I emphasize might -- be back for the playoffs.

I don't know if you all know but to avoid any funny business, every game starts at the same time on Sunday at either 305 or 310 PM EST.

Rockies are at Giant so the game will start at 1205 Pacific, Angels are at Rangers so the game will start at 205 Central and Yankees are at Orioles so the game will start at 305 Eastern, and so forth.

Sorry to see the Giants eliminated but beating Zeinke and Kershaw on consecutive nights is a tough order. The Angels sure have gotten hot at the right time of the season. Just waiting on the AL now. -- Al

Al:

There is no shame in losing the division to the Dodgers, my hats off to them. They are a great team top to bottom and are anchored by arguably 2 of the 3 best pitchers in the game.

Class move buy the Giants organization last night, at the end of the game they posted a congratulatory message to the Dodgers on their scoreboard as the Dodgers celebrated on their field.

Best,
Jason

The Red Sox appeared to have responded to Torey Lovullo as they have a chance to have a winning season if they can win the remainder of their games; they are 77-80.

The AL East is one tough division. Almost every team is at .500. And for good measure the Blue Jays are at a +236 in run differential. The next closest team in the entire league is the Cardinals at +124.

A seriously ugly game tonight that lasted almost 4 hours. Mets had a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning. Several hit batters, a couple of ejections, 7 wild pitches and 9 pitchers used by the Mets, they lost the game. Really bad.

Nice performance by the Mets today: six hits and 0 runs. You just can't turn this stuff on and off. The Angels had this kind of performance at the tail end of last year and they got swept by the Royals.

They are playing very well right now, six in a row and a chance to sweep the MFY's tonight.

Lovullo has thrown the kids out there and has let them play and the results are very good; Farrell's weakness is bringing along young players, both in Toronto and here.

I think they are going to bring him back, we'll see what happens.....................

They're up to 78-80. Who knows where they would have been had Lovullo been the manager several weeks earlier as they are now 5 games out of WC spot (although they've been eliminated).

On the day the Nats were officially eliminated, Strasburg had another fine start, even though he got an ND for his efforts. Threw 8 innings of 3-hit, 1 run ball, fanning 13. Was his 4th straight start with double figure K's. Now has 50 K's in his last 30.1 innings. Heck of a September for him with a 1.61 ERA in his 4 starts this month. -- Al
Strasburg had his final start of the season, pitching 6 scoreless innings and getting the win in a 3-0 win at Atlanta. Stras has been one of the few bright spots for the Nats since August, when he came of the DL for the 2nd time. He went 6-2, with 9 QS in his 10 starts, with an ERA of 1.89. He also fanned 98 in the 66.1 innings. He finished the year at 11-7 with a 3.46 ERA, which is pretty good considering he was 5-5 with a 5.16 ERA in his 13 pre-August starts, when he was pitching hurt. -- Al
