Yes, I know Al. I'm watching the game. Mets game is not until after 10 but I doubt I can watch more than a couple of innings.

I'm assuming Harper was the one thrown out. He's lucky Robinson hit the HR. Just imagine if the game had gone to extra innings and he wasn't available. I suppose he's going to be fined for coming out onto the field after he was supposed to have been in the club house. Yelling at the umpire won't help him either.

You must have seen Murph come through again, 2 for 4, Hr, 3 RBI's. He and Harper have been our big bats, only Murph has stayed hot all season. He is very popular in DC.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Nats game announcers during tonight's game have passed on a rumor that Strasburg has signed a 7 year extension for $175mil. Hope it's true.:wink2:^&grin -- Al
OK, the extension is official. Now, I am very pleased that the Nats opened up the purse and signed Stras to the extension, especially on top of Scherzer's contract last year at $210mil for 7 years. Especially since Boras normally has his clients go to FA to test the market. That's $210 mil to Scherzer, $175mil to Stras, and Harper still to come. I still can't figure out why the Nats tried to sign Jordan Zimmermann at $105 for 5 years, sort of a cheap offer when compared to the other 2 pitchers. They could have had him if they had only added another $10-15mil and a year or two to the offer. Oh well. The Harper contract negotiations are going to be really interesting.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Looks like Harper will be facing a suspension for his antics last night. This is not his first run in with umpires. He's only hurting his team.

So it seems. Problem is he was tossed from the game when he didn't say anything to cause it. All the words came after the ejection. Harper never even came onto the field until the game was over and then never came close to the ump, but was cussing at him. I can see a fine, but the suspension is excessive. -- Al

I can't sympathize. Whatever the reason he was ejected, he's supposed to leave the field. He didn't. Then to make matters worse he tells the umpire to F off. Not very smart.

The strategy of walking Harper is paying off for the opposition. Tigers walked him twice tonight, the second time in the bottom of the 9th when they had a one run lead, one on, one out, making Harper the winning run. Tigers got the next 2 outs and won 5-4. Odd thing is, by putting Harper on it brought Ryan Zimmerman to the plate on a night when Zimm had already hit 2 Hr's. I guess that's why managers get paid big bucks. Harper has now walked 17 times in his last 6 games. He's not hitting anything but his OBP keeps going up. What a game. -- Al

I thought the strategy was a little risky because you were putting the winning run on base, not to mention Zimmerman had hit 2 HRs. Moreover, Harper is only hitting .252 at the moment, not .352.

The O's are thumping the ball and getting decent starting pitching, a dangerous combo for the opposition. Machado, Trumbo, and Davis are all on current pace to hit 45-50 Hr's. That would be impressive. {eek3} -- Al

Holy strikeout, Batman. Mad Max Scherzer just fanned 20 men in his 3-2 win over the Tigers. He threw 96 strikes out of 119 pitches. Plus, the Nats finally put Murphy into the clean-up spot after Harper and it payed off right away as Murph went 3-4, with 2 RBI's and lost a 3rd when Harper was caught stealing right before Murph doubled. Murphy is hitting .409 and leads baseball in multi-hit games. The 119 total pitches is also the lowest total pitch count in any game with 20 K's by one pitcher. Great game by Scherzer. -- Al

Thor (Noah Syndergaard) accomplished something that hasn't been done in nine years: he hit 2 HRs last night. On his third AB, although he struck out he was right on the ball. On the first pitch, he was probably too eager and was out in front but if he hadn't he would have given that one a ride. An impressive achievement.

Thought I saw a stat on ESPN the O's score was 5-2 against the Twins on 12 pitches last night on their way to a 9-2 win. Don't know if I caught that correctly. Do know the 9-2 end result was right. ^&grin O's were 0-7 against Twins last yr and are currently 5-0. :smile2: Chris

O's come back down from a 5-0 spot to win 7-5!!! we haven't made it to June yet but I'm feeling pretty good about this team overall, pitching has been decent, closers have been awesome and the hitting speaks for itself, if some how we could snag or trade for 1 more quality starter this season I believe the O's could be there all season, again plenty early but so far so good...Sammy

Won't be any magical night for Colon tonight. He gave up five runs and they're facing Kershaw {eek3}

Sure glad to see Tillman back to his 2014 form. He had me concerned after 2015 and spring training this year but he has really come through. He out duels Verlander and wins 1-0 to raise his record to 5-1 and, even better, the O's are 7-1 in his 8 starts. Beauty of a game, Mr. Tillman.^&grin -- Al

Just read an interesting stat regarding Verlander's 1-0 loss last night. It seems that game was the 38th time that he has pitched 8+ innings while giving up 1 or fewer earned runs, and it was the first time he has lost such a game. He had been 34-0 in them. Now he is 34-1. Go O's! -- Al

I expected the Nats and the Mets to battle all season for the NL East title, what I didn't expect was to see the Phillies in 2nd place and Miami in the mix, as well. The Phillies have been playing really good ball, which has surprised me. Miami, I half expected to contend, but the Phillies? The Phils have something going as they are now 14-3 in 1-run games. Now I have to focus on a possible 4-way battle for the NL East title. I didn't think either the Phillies or Miami had the pitching to contend but, right now, they are hanging in with the Nats and Mets. Oh well, the more the merrier. -- Al

The O's current 7 game winning streak is their second one this season. They had 2 such streaks in the previous 16 seasons, combined. Could be the year of the Oriole. :wink2: -- Al

The Phillies are playing very well and their sweep of the Nats was no aberration.

The Mets started out their road trip decently but it's gone to pot the last three games. Not having Matz yesterday obviously hurt; his forearm is hurting and the concern is he may need a second TJ surgery. He is talented -- maybe the best pitcher they have -- but injury prone. Let's hope for the best. Harvey continues to struggle. Another worry. DeGrom was a little better last time. On top of that, this team only seems to be able to score with the HR. Over the long haul, that's just not good enough. Wright has been awful, hitting around 230, with 3 HRs and less than 10 RBIs. He needs to be dropped in the order. He may be close to being finished. As a fellow back sufferer, I can't imagine how he manages to play. You have to give him an A for perseverance.

I just hope that we can one win out of three against the Nats, at a minimum, so we don't get too far behind.

Looks like the NL Central race is over. The Cubs are the team to beat this year. It will be a major disappointment for them if they don't go to the WS. I still think they need to add another starter and I wouldn't be shocked to see them obtain Chapman if the Yankees are still struggling come July.
