I just finished watching the end of the Angels Os game. The home plate umpire basically robbed the Angels of a chance to tie the game with some horrendous calls. Trout rarely argues and he even got upset. I hope that joke of an umpire gets fined by MLB.

Brad what are you doing up at 1:30 in the morning!!?? :) agreed the umpire had some terrible calls go against the Angels but I can live with it.^&grin happy birthday to Matt Weiters what a great way to celebrate his B-day!!...Sammy

Unfortunately, the Angels put themselves in that position by giving up the HR. They wasted a great performance by Shoemaker. The last two games have been frustrating but shows the work they need to do in the pen.

On Friday Steve Phillips made an interesting point. He compared Harper's stats to Trout and except for HRs and walks Trout leads him in most offensive categories and is the better player. If that's the case, why don't teams walk Trout like they do Harper. The only answer can be is that the Nats are a better team.

My God, please let the O's give up on Ubaldo Jimenez, this guy has been a train wreck all season :mad: even when he's pitching some what decent it's 3 packs of frogs (and I don't even smoke) just to get through a game!!! if the Orioles can just find 1 more quality starter some how and drop Ubado pun intended because at this point that's about all he is..bad...Sammy

Sammy, lots of speculation about who goes when Gallardo comes off the DL. Used to think it would be Wright or Wilson but now I'm thinking the O's should just cut their losses on Jimenez and dump him. This team has got real potential and can't afford the train wreck that is Jimenez every 5th day. And dump Matusz at the same time. The O's are in decent shape without Jimenez, with Tillman resurgent, Gausman pitching well, and Wilson, Wright, and Worley waiting in the wings. If Gallardo can pitch well, the O's should be pretty well set. They just can't afford Jimenez, regardless of the money they owe him. -- Al

Thought it was a good game Sammy. Score finally came out right :wink2: They could have used those runs last night.

Break up the Yankees...5 straight and out of the cellar...OH NO! I just gave them the kiss of death...:(Michael

Looks like the two Chicago teams have come back to earth a little, which, insofar as the Cubs are concerned, is good news.

Bumgarner did it all last night against the Cubs. He threw 7 and 2/3's scoreless innings and knocked in the game's only run.

Duda is out for 4-6 weeks with a stress fracture in his back. As I doubt anyone will make up for his power (even though he's streaky), the pitching will have to be better than it is, excepting Matz and Syndergaard, who have been superb.

Supposed to start Round 2 tonight but right now, at 5:30, it's raining, so we shall see. -- Al

I see that Josh Hamilton is out for the year. That has to be one of the worst signing the Angels have ever made. They have nothing to show for it and they have to pay his $26 million salary this year and next. That is why the position they are in: $26 million they could have spent elsewhere and Arte doesn't want to get hit with a luxury tax by going over the cap. Instead of signing Hamilton, they should have signed Greinke but they let him walk.

Just how good is Clayton Kershaw? Spectacular. He just tossed his 3rd CG shutout of the season. He is 7-1 with an ERA of 1.48 (his career ERA is a miniscule 2.39). He is averaging 8 innings per start, has walked 5 men in 79 innings and fanned 95 (a ration of 19 K's per BB!). His WHIP is a ridiculous 0.658, in fact, he hasn't had a WHIP over 1.0 since 2012. The only place he hasn't dominated is in the post-season. It is hardly hyperbole to say he is the best pitcher in baseball over the last 6-7 years, even if Arrieta had a better year last season and is having another fantastic season this year. It looks like another 2-man race for the Cy Young award in the NL. -- Al

Based on ERA and WHIP, I don't think they are the only players in the conversation. You need to include Syndergaard and Drew Pomerantz of the Padres, not to mention that we're only in May.

After last night's win, there is probably a little less pressure on Harvey for this evening, not that it's not important for him and the team, although probably more important for him, especially with Matz going tomorrow afternoon.

If he lays an egg tonight, he may be facing a trip to the minors to work it out down there.

Mets are starting a rookie tonight at 3B; only so many games Wright can play. That's putting a lot of pressure on the rest of a lineup that features a 1B hitting around 200, a catcher hitting below 200 and a pitcher, all of whom are facing Strasberg. Yikes!

Al:

I can't stand Kershaw. Not only is he a phenomenal pitcher, he also wins with class and speaks well of his adversaries. The rare times that he does lose he never makes excuses or blames anyone else.

He is a Dodger so I have to dislike him, but he makes that difficult. Puig on the other hand.............

Had to happen. Brian Matusz was traded to the Atlanta today for a couple of minor league pitchers. Matusz had been a disaster with the O's, like Arrieta had been. Hmmm..... -- Al

I just looked Kershaw's stats so far this season. Add this to his accomplishments of note as listed by Al:

He has more shut-outs (3) in May than walks (2);

The Braves have no interest in Matusz. He will likely be jettisoned. What they wanted and got was the #76 pick in the upcoming draft as well as some more bonus room. The Braves now have 5 or 6 picks in the first 80 or so slots. They are making the upcoming draft a big focus.
