True. It was start #13 (Lucky 13) and Gausman looked great. He has 7 QS in his 13 starts, so he hasn't been pitching badly, he's just been a bit unlucky with the run support. Tillman and Gausman are a good 1-2 punch, but we still need a 3-4 to go with them. -- Al

No doubt on 3-4 spot, I really do like Wilson, Guarrado hasn't pitched bad in his 2 starts back from the DL so far, a little more consistency and this pitching staff would be a pretty decent one, here's the kicker the O's should have O'Day back next week and that leaves only 1 player on the DL, that is amazing as it seems the Orioles are like the Ravens when it comes to the DL situation, so being healthy going into the break here soon would be something new for a change...Sammy

The Nats are starting to annoy me. They just lost their 7th game in a row, yet they insist on running Gio Gonzalez out to the mound every 5th game. He has been so bad over his last 7 starts that there is no chance for the Nats to win. In his last seven starts he is 0-6 and the Nats are 0-7. He has pitched only 37.1 innings and has allowed 35 earned runs over that stretch. His ERA has gone from 1.86 to 4.73 over that 7 game stretch. His first season with the Nats saw him go 21-8 with a 2.89 ERA, a superb year. It is the memory of this year that keeps him in the rotation. Since 2012, he has gone 11-8, 10-10, 11-8, and is 3-7 this year, a very average record on a contending team that expects more than a 35-33 record. His ERA has gone steadily up every season to it's present 4.73. I wonder when management will stop living in the past and realize the Gio of 2012 ain't coming back. Time to get someone into the rotation that will give the Nats a chance to win. -- Al

Must be Negro League night in Atlanta because the Mets are wearing a totally blue uniform (except for a little orange here and there) of the Brooklyn Royal Giants. The Giants played from 1905-42.

I saw that. The Nats were wearing the Washington Grays uni. You have a heck of a pitching duel going on, 0-0 after 8. {eek3} -- Al

Well, Sammy, Tillman didn't have it tonight, putting the O's in a 4-0 hole early on, but then the Hr machine got cranked up and the O's came back, once again, and sweep the double header by winning the nightcap 8-6. You just can't count this team out as long as the long ball comes into play. Bombs away!^&grin -- Al

Yeah, that's great, their ace doesn't have it, but they hit 97 home runs and won the game.

Sox lost again as their ace didn't have it either, they're now 3 out and get to play the red hot Rangers again today while the LET'S GO O'S!!! get to beat up on the tomato can Devil Rays again. I predict the Sox will be about 6 out by the All Star break.

Time to concentrate on the Euro's, then July 4th weekend, then a wedding the following weekend, then Historicon the weekend after that.

Then NFL camps open up, so it's on to football, then the Olympics in August.

Adios baseball, thanks for entertaining me for a couple of months.............................

Speaking of bombs, the O's have 51 bombs in the month of June and they need 5 to break the record of all time hit in the month of June, only 3 games left this month (2 in SD, 1 in Seattle) come on George
say it with me....LET'S GO O's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^&grin...Sammy

Yeah, have fun the rest of the baseball season Sammy, I'm out, will see you when football starts, of if you care to join me in the Euro thread or once the Summer Olympics thread starts....................

You're only four games out and giving up on the season, not to mention you don't know what they're going to do at the trading deadline.

C'mon, George. As Brad says, the Sox are only 4 games out. Now, you can give up on them if there were only 3 games left to play, but we have over half the season left. The AL East has too many variables in play and anything could happen yet. :wink2: -- Al

The games from now until the All Star Break could make or break the Mets schedule. They have to play the Nationals six times, the Cubs and the Marlins. If they're only three or four out by then, they'll be in reasonable shape. They are extremely fortunate that the Nats had a losing streak. Otherwise, they'd have to be focusing on the WC.

And there's the rub; at this point, I don't want them to make any moves. There are several teams who need pitching other than the Red Sox, so what I don't want is a panic move trade where they ship out any of their blue chip minor league talent for a marginal pitcher who won't matter in the end.

Their starters and their bullpen are a disaster at this point, so one pitcher is not going to matter at this point.

I don't want to see another Bagwell for Larry Anderson trade or see another Anthony Rizzo get sent packing; imagine they traded away that kid and look at him now with the Cubs, an MVP candidate......................they are playing awful this month, 11-17, falling further and further behind the LET'S GO O'S!!!, not to mention whenever I tune in to an Orioles game on MLB network to play "Watch the opponent/schedule time", I'm subjected to that moron Rick Dempsey and his idiotic takes on baseball, sounds to me like he took to many shots to the head as a catcher all those years....................the buffoon that he is................

Hey George, I'm counting the days down to kick off in the NFL, after last years debacle it can't come fast enough for me, and I always look forward to the Olympics be it Summer or Winter, as far as the Euro thingy I'll have to pass, but you should know as much as anyone that watches Baseball any team can go from first to last or vice versa in a matter of a week if they stay close, I'm glad the Orioles are playing decent ball but this is almost a throw back season so far to 2014, we won the East, got into the ALCS and got swept by the Royals because we ran into a few pitchers that were lights out and our HR's guys couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, we got plenty of HR guys again, but I do believe this team is more balanced then 2014, but at this point like Louis said awhile back no sense in worrying about the standings at least not until the break, I sure as Hell am not looking past Boston, Blue Jays even the evil Yanks as far as that goes, I do believe the Rays will be wheeling and dealing during trade talks but everyone else is in it to win it and don't see anyone running away with the East this year...Sammy

I didn't see last night's game as I was in no mood to do so after Spain's exit from the Euros. Good thing too. Syndergaard and Matz have some concerns with their elbows; the results showed that last night and Matz is skipping a start. This team doesn't strike me as one who can win at all and perhaps they need to put some brakes on these two, rest the starting pitching more, and come back strong next year.

Frankly, the Cubs and the Giants look too strong and if you're going in as a wild card without a realistic to win the WS, it's not worth the effort. That conundrum also faces the Yankees.

At his point it does look like the NL will be a battle between the Cubs and Giants which in many ways is not surprising. I am however a little stunned that the Rangers are running away with the AL. Of course there is still lots of baseball to be played but things are taking shape.

Mets could be swept away today. It's a pitching mismatch. Then in come the Cubs, Marlins and Nats again. They could be under 500 by that time.

Brad, the pitching match-up could be in the Nats favor, but it depends on which Scherzer shows up. He is either sharp and hard to beat or the gopher ball gets him and he becomes very beatable. He has been the most inconsistent of the Nats starters, giving up 20 Hr's in 107 innings. I figured the Nats could take 2 of 3 (depending on Scherzer), but I didn't expect Syndergaard to get lit up. What's the word on Matz and Thor's elbows? Paper down here speculates bone spurs on both of them. -- Al

Al, they're both supposed to have bone spurs although Syndergaard says he doesn't have one. They've been given anti flammatory injections. It will be up to them to see if they can manage it. If they fall out of the race, they might shut them down. Matz might be shut down anyway if he can't take it because he seems a little more brittle.

If the Mets can get tonight's game, everybody would be super happy. On the other hand, I understand that the Nats would love to administer a little payback for last year. I just hope the Mets can tread a little water so they don't fall out of the WC race. Maybe Reyes will inject some life into them. Who knows?

Brad

This has to be a joke: Alejandor de *******, he of the .165 average, leading off. When are they going to cut this guy.
