It occurs to me that if the Cubs win the WS, they are going to owe Baltimore and Boston a share of the wnnings. 80% of their starting rotation is from those 2 teams, Arrieta and Hamels from the O's, Lester and Lackey from the Sox. The O's also gave the Cubs Pedro Strop, a crucial middle man. If it weren't for the AL East, the Cubs would still be lovable losers.:rolleyes2: -- Al

The baseball Gods listened!!! Just read that Showalter has taking Ubado out of the rotation and is headed to the bullpen!!! Buck wants to see if there is any chance for him to work out his issues but at this point I'll take my chances with anyone else ..Sammy

I bet UJ would be history if they didn't owe him so much money. Can't afford to start him, they sure can't afford to bring him into close or even semi-close games just to work out his issues. That's what the minor leagues are for. In the mean time, thank goodness Tillman is pitching like a Cy Young candidate. Hopefully, Gallardo will return and contribute and maybe 'unlucky' Gausman will get a win or two. -- Al

I see that the Chicago Cubs have signed former Oriole's LHP Brian Matusz to a minor league contract. Matusz was recently sent by the O's to Atlanta in a trade, and he was immediately DFA'ed by them. I have no doubt that Matusz will now turn into a key cog in the Cubs pitching staff, ala Arrieta. If Mutusz does so, I will seriously wonder whether the O's are capable of evaluating and developing pitchers anywhere within their organization. If. :wink2: -- Al

With his numbers it has to be the money they are paying him. The Giants stuck with Zito for the same reasons.

Seriously??? did Buck decide to start Ubado today!!!???:mad: Sox up 6-0 as I write this, I was really hoping Gausman was going to have another good start...ummm no, better start swinging for the fences O's this is gonna be a ugly one.

Nats played a near perfect game tonight and beat the Cubs 4-1. Cubs were held to 2 hits, 0 walks, and fanned 16 times. Scherzer was perfect for the first 5 innings, fanned 11 in 7 and earned his 8th win. On to tomorrow and hope we can repeat it. -- Al
Nats won the rubber match in a game worthy of the 2 teams playing. Tied 1-1 through 7, Nats went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the 8th. Cubs scored 2 in the 9th to lead 3-2. Nats scored in the 9th to tie and go into extras. Cubs scored in the 12th to lead 4-3, then the Nats rallied for 2 in the bottom half to walk-off with the 5-4 victory. My BP is going to take hours to recover. Nats won 2 of 3 in very close games. Whew! -- Al

Yeah, it went south fast. Guasman just didn't have it tonight. Shortest start + most runs allowed this season = worst start of season for Gausman. He can't catch a break. He now has 11 starts with 0 wins. {sm2} -- Al

Colby Lewis nearly threw a no-hitter against Oakland today.

It is difficult to believe that Oakland has not been no-hot since 1991 when the Orioles did it against them and even then it was a "combined" no hitter. Even more difficult to believe is the fact that I was at that game.

The O's left home 8 days ago in 1st by 2 games and just finished off road trips to Toronto/Boston and are returning to Baltimore with a 1 game lead, I'll take that, we had some really tough close games in Toronto we could have won but we have another shot at them starting on Friday in Baltimore.

P.S. not sure where T. Wilson found that gem tonite?? but hope he can find some more just like it...Sammy

Wilson is a favorite of O's analyst Dave Johnson. He's keeps saying Wilson is a legitimate starter, should be a regular in the rotation, and is capable of tonight's kind of effort when given the chance. Maybe he'll get it with UJ out of the rotation. Wilson sure threw a beauty tonight. -- Al

As good as last night's pitching was for the O's, it was that bad and worse tonight as the Jays trounced us 13-3. The starter, Wright, lasted 3.2 innings, gave up 8 runs and left the game with a 3-4 record and a 6.12 ERA. Jimenez, in his relief debut, lasted 2.1 innings, giving up 5 runs and leaving with a 7.34 ERA. The other 2 relief pitchers shut the Jays down (though a little late), and ended their stints with ERA's of 5.14 and 5.68, respectively. I think I see the problem. The O's pitching is falling apart. Their one effective starter, Tillman, is 9-1 with a 2.87 ERA. It's all downhill from there. The other 5 starters have a combined 10-21 record with 4.14 being the lowest ERA in the group. I don't care how good the hitting is, you need more than one effective starter to contend. The O's are hanging in but the grind will get to them eventually. Tillman is good but he can only pitch every 5th day. As I end up saying dozens of times a year (for several years now), the front office needs to do something about the starting pitching or this very talented offensive team is going to be left out come the playoffs. -- Al

Before they put together their recent string of good years the Giants pitching staff was very similar to what you mentioned here, one night they would get someone to throw lights out then for 2-3 games in a row they would get shelled. It was beyond frustrating.

Things are slipping away for the Mets. It's bad enough they were swept at home but they seem passive. The Braves are a young aggressive team and the Mets couldn't match their energy. If you want to have a postseason this can't go on. They need some fire.

Hey MLB, it's an even year and the SF Giants are on a tear. They are kicking butts and taking names. Their Big 3, Bumgarner, Cueto, and Samardzija, are almost unbeatable and even Peavy has upped his game and has become a reliable back of the rotation guy. From what I've seen of LA and the rest of the NL West, the Giants are getting ready to run away and hide. Good for them.^&grin ^&cool -- Al

Os take 2 from the Blue Jays. :smile2: Tillman 10-2. :smile2::smile2:Chris

Tillman has been outstanding and the O's only reliable starter. Good to see him regaining his 2013/14 form. -- Al

Hopefully they can get a better result than the Sharks and Warriors if they do get to the World Series (sorry, as I mentioned in another thread, it has been a tough 7 days)!

On a serious note they do look very good. If pitching wins championships then they have a legitimate shot at going all the way.
